BJP tops list with 11 of its 26 candidates having such records

AHMEDABAD: Of the 359 candidates in the fray in 26 Lok Sabha constituencies in
Gujarat, 69 have criminal records.
According to data compiled by the Gujarat Election Watch, a part of the
National Election Watch organisation monitoring the candidates in the 2009 Lok
Sabha elections, all the parties have candidates with criminal records; topping
the list was the BJP with 11 of its 26 candidates having criminal records,
followed by the Congress with a close 10. The Bahujan Samaj Party, which
fielded 24 candidates, has four. Three come from the newly-formed Mahagujarat
Janata Party, which has put up candidates in 16 constituencies.
The 69 candidates together have 136 criminal cases registered against them, of
which 48 cases were of a serious nature, including charges of murder, attempt
to murder, kidnapping, extortion and such others. Though Gujarat had a
reasonablly good record in law and order compared to many other States, 19.22
per cent of its candidates have criminal records.
Among the individual candidates, Vithhalbhai Radadiya, with 16 cases listed
against him, topped the list of candidates with criminal records. While he has
five cases of a serious nature, Janata Dal (united) nominee for the Broach
parliamentary seat Chhotubhai Vasava has 13 such cases against him.
The GEW considers as “Red Alert constituencies” those which have three or more
candidates with criminal records; there are 16 such constituencies; Junagadh
tops the list, with six of its candidates figuring in police records, followed
by five in Navsari, four each in Rajkot, Broach, Porbandar, Bhavnagar,
Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad east, and three each in Surendranagar, Jamnagar,
Banaskantha, Surat, Bulsar, Vadodara, Kutch and Ahmedabad west.
According to the Association for Democratic Reforms and the GEW, which compiled
the data furnished by the candidates in their affidavits while filling their
nomination papers, 47 candidates in the fray have wealth over Rs. one crore,
with the highest being the BSP nominee for the Surendranagar seat, Khimjibhai
Patadia, with assets of over Rs. 514 crore. But incidentally, though Mr.
Patadia is a builder, he does not have a PAN number.
Of the 47 “crorepatis,” the Congress has fielded 17, the BJP 12 and the MJP
four, but incidentally 204 of the 359 candidates do not have PAN numbers.
The brighter side is that 115 of the total candidates are graduates or above.

London Probes Embarrassing Terror Raids

The release without charges of all eleven people, including Pakistani students,
detained on claims of plotting a major terrorist plot prompted Britain's
terror watchdog to launch an investigation into the issue, with Islamabad
demanding an apology.

I shall be requesting input into these events from all involved as soon as
possible. This will include those arrested and their legal representatives,
said Lord Carlile, the reviewer of terrorism legislation.

He added the probe will look into the April 8 terror raids in northwest England
and arrests of twelve students, including eleven Pakistanis.

The questions I shall raise will centre on the nature and extent of the use of
the Terrorism Act 2000 and connected legislation used for the purposes of the
operation.

Islamophobia Blamed for UK Student Arrest

Prime Minister Gordon Brown had claimed the high;-publicized raids foiled a
major terrorist plot.

But after weeks in custody, police released all students without charges.

These people are not terrorists, Hamza Shenwari, the only Briton detainee,
said about the Pakistani students.

They work nine to five, they are very religious. We have got used to it here.

Shenwari, a 21-year student and a delivery driver, said British authorities are
playing the terror card from time to time.

The police got bad information and they are just using it to scare everyone.
It is just scare tactics, he said.

It has become a daft game. But now people are afraid to talk and joke in case
they get accused of being in Al-Qaeda. It is creating paranoia.

I am not a scholar, but in brief my understanding is: life is not only
about husband wife, but also rights of child and child has right to
know his lineage. If a woman were allowed to have numerous partners at

women - not men - have waiting period after divorce or bereavement; so

An Introduction to Polygamy in Islam

Description: A glimpse of the concept of polygamy in Islam.

Islam is criticized for allowing polygamy, for popular culture in the West
views polygamy as relatively backward and impoverished. For many
Christians, it is a license to promiscuity, and feminists consider it a
violation of women's rights and demeaning to women. A crucial point that
needs to be understood is that for Muslims, standards of morality are not
set by prevalent Western thought, but by divine revelation. A few simple
facts should be borne in mind before any talk of polygamy in Islam.

Islam Did Not Initiate Polygamy
Islam did not introduce polygamy. Among all Eastern nations of antiquity,
polygamy was a recognized institution. Among the Hindus, polygamy prevailed
from the earliest times. There was, as among the ancient Babylonians,
Assyrians, and Persians, no restriction as to the number of wives a man
might have. Although Greece and Rome were not polygamous societies,
concubinage was a norm[1]. Islam regulated polygamy by limiting the number
of wives and bringing responsibility to its practice. In fact, according to
David Murray, an anthropologist, historically polygamy is more common than
monogamy.[2]

Polygamy Practiced by God's Prophets
The great Hebrew patriarchs equally revered by Judaism, Christianity, and
Islam - Abraham, Moses, Jacob, David, and Solomon, to name a few - were
polygamous. According to the Bible:

Abraham had three wives (Genesis 16:1, 16:3, 25:1)

Moses had two wives (Exodus 2:21, 18:1-6; Numbers 12:1)

Jacob had four wives (Genesis 29:23, 29:28, 30:4, 30:9)

David had at least 18 wives (1 Samuel 18:27, 25:39-44; 2 Samuel 3:3, 3:4-5,
5:13, 12:7-8, 12:24, 16:21-23)

Solomon had 700 wives (1 Kings 11:3).[3]

The example of Jesus, who otherwise overlooked polygamy, is irrelevant as he
did not marry during his earthly ministry.

Marriage in Islam
Marriage is a legal arrangement in Islam, not a sacrament in the Christian
sense, and is secured with a contract. Islamic marriage lays rights and
corresponding responsibilities on each spouse. Children born in wedlock are
given legitimacy and share in inheritance from their parents.

The primary purpose of marriage in Islam is regulating sexuality within
marriage as well as creating an atmosphere for the continuity and extension
of the family. This is in sharp contrast to growing trends on marriage in
the West. In recent decades, there are more alternatives to marriage than
ever before. Cohabitation - living together outside of marriage - has
greatly increased among young, never-married adults, as well as the
divorced. More American women are having children outside of marriage,
ignoring the traditionally sanctioned sequence of marriage followed by
childbearing.

Polygamy in the Quran
The Muslim scripture, the Quran, is the only known world scripture to
explicitly limit polygamy and place strict restrictions upon its practice:

. marry women of your choice, two or three or four; but if you fear that
you shall not be able to deal justly with them, then only one. (Quran 4:3)

The Quran limited the maximum number of wives to four. In the early days of
Islam, those who had more than four wives at the time of embracing Islam
were required to divorce the extra wives. Islam further reformed the
institution of polygamy by requiring equal treatment to all wives. The
Muslim is not permitted to differentiate between his wives in regards to
sustenance and expenditures, time, and other obligations of husbands. Islam
does not allow a man to marry another woman if he will not be fair in his
treatment. Prophet Muhammad forbade discrimination between the wives or
between their children.

Also, marriage and polygamy in Islam is a matter of mutual consent. No one
can force a woman to marry a married man. Islam simply permits polygamy; it
neither forces nor requires it. Besides, a woman may stipulate that her
husband must not marry any other woman as a second wife in her prenuptial
contract. The point that is often misunderstood in the West is that women
in other cultures - especially African and Islamic - do not necessarily look
at polygamy as a sign of women's degradation. Consequently, to equate
polygamy with degrading women is an ethnocentric judgment of other
societies.

Even though we see the clear permissibility of polygamy in Islam, its actual
practice is quite rare in many Muslim societies. Some researchers estimate
no more than 2% of the married males practice polygamy.[4] Most Muslim men
feel they cannot afford the expense of maintaining more than one family.
Even those who are financially

Bismillah [IslamCity] Survey: Half of U.S. adults have switched religions

2009-05-02 Thread Peace [PS]
Survey: Half of U.S. adults have switched religions
http://www.usatoday.com:80/news/religion/2009-04-27-pew-religion-switch_Nhtm

Vang Lutheran Church, Dunn County, N.D. Seven percent of U.S. adults raised
Protestant are now unaffiliated, while 15% have switched to a different
Protestant faith

By Cathy Lynn Grossman, USA TODAY
About half of all Americans have switched religions at least once, according to
the most in-depth survey on the topic, released Monday. And that may still be
a conservative estimate, says Luis Lugo, director of the Pew Forum on
Religion Public Life.

FAITH REASON: Does economy affect worship attendance?
AMERICAN RELIGIOUS IDENTIFICATION SURVEY: See how other survey shows change in
religions over 2 decades
Pew's new survey is based on re-contacting 2,800 people from its U.S. Religious
Landscape Survey of 35,000 people, released last year. Pew estimated at the
time that about 44% of Americans have changed religions. It now says between
47% and 59% have, if you count the millions who once switched but have returned
to their childhood faith.

The reasons people give for changing their religion - or leaving religion
altogether - differ widely: 71% of Catholics and nearly 60% of Protestants who
switched didn't think their spiritual needs were being met, liked another faith
more or changed their religious or moral beliefs.

Most switched early, committing to one faith by age 36. Americans switch
religions often, early and for many different reasons, says John Green, a Pew
senior fellow.

Catholicism has suffered the greatest net loss in the process of religious
change: The 10% of U.S. adults who have quit the church vastly outnumber the
2.6% who are incoming Catholics. Two in three who became unaffiliated - and
half of those who became Protestant - say they left the Catholic Church because
they stopped believing its teachings. The sexual abuse scandal was a factor
for fewer than three in 10 former Catholics.

Life circumstances, not religious doctrinal differences, prompt most
Protestants who switch denominations (Baptist to Methodist, for example).
Moving to a new town or marrying someone of a different tradition are the most
often-cited reasons, but 36% attributed changes to likes and dislikes about
religious institutions, practices and people.

Many people who left a religion and now are unaffiliated say they did so in
part because they see religious people as hypocritical or judgmental, because
religious organizations focus too much on rules, or because religious leaders
focus too much on power and money.

Among the 16% of Americans who say they're now not affiliated with any
religion, most are former Protestants and Catholics who say they didn't quit in
a huff or get lured away by science or by atheist philosophy: About 70% say
they just gradually drifted away from their childhood religion.

About 9% return to their childhood religion, saying they tried another religion
or two but then went back.

Religious education or youth group participation seemed to make no dent,
although people who say they participated frequently in worship services or
Mass were less likely to switch.

Green sees no simple answer for retaining members in a competitive religious
marketplace.

The findings suggest that one thing that might be needed to recruit and keep
members is vibrant and vital congregations - a tough thing to create.

The Flux questionaire was conducted in English and Spanish between Oct. 3 and
Nov 7. The findings are focused on Catholics, Protestants and the unaffiliated.
There were too few converts to or from Mormonism, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and
other religions to analyze their views, researchers said.

Both the original Religious Landscape Survey, and the new survey are snapshots
in time, so it's not possible to tell whether America has always been a
bubbling chemistry lab of religious change. But this is the first to spell out
the switches in such detail, establishing a baseline to measure future changes,
and potential problems.

Lugo says the findings present opportunities for churches, which have seen a
decrease in brand loyalty- especially among spiritual but not religious
Americans. These are folks that are, in some sense, 'catchable.'

REASONS FOR CHANGING

Of U.S. adults who do not belong to their childhood faiths, the reason(s) they
said were an important factor in their switch:

Raised Catholic, now unaffiliated Raised Catholic, now Protestant Raised
Protestant, now unaffiliated Raised Protestant, now different Protestant faith

Bismillah [IslamCity] ISRAEL, not IRAN has been calling to wipe Iran off the map all along!

2009-05-02 Thread Nashid Abdul-Khaaliq
ISRAEL, not IRAN has been calling to wipe Iran off the map
all along!

It is a sad state of affairs and very ugly indeed when things have to be
fabricated or made up to make others appear evil and even genocidal, when in
truth they are not. The truth is Ahmadinejad never said “wipe Israel off the
map”.
That phrase is an invention by MEMRI — the neocons propaganda tool that
mistranslates articles written in the Middle East and demonizes Arabs and
Islam. The “wipe off the map” statement, attributed to Iran, provides Jews
another opportunity to go on a self pitying, persecution campaign as they are
doing now to justify attacking Iran. It is a bold faced lie like so many others
they have told in the past. What Ahmadinejad did say was to repeat Khomeini’s
statement about regime change in Israel similar to what happened in South
Africa. It was not a genocidal statement like these lying, self pitying,
desperate for world sympathy Jews have been pushing. But it was a statement
reflecting a change in government providing justice to all unlike the racist,
barbaric
Jewish regime ruling over the Palestinians today.

 But let’s look at Jewish
actions against Iran like in the following article:

 Boxer,
AIPAC lead efforts to cut off Iranian exports
“Calling Iran a sponsor
of evil deeds, Sen. Barbara Boxer said this week she is backing a bill to
sanction foreign companies that invest in the Mideast nation. If you do
business with Iran, you won't do business with America, said the Jewish
Democrat from Greenbrae. Boxer spoke Monday to an audience of 700 at an
American Israel Public Affairs Committee membership-drive luncheon at San
Francisco's Fairmont Hotel. This event and two others in San Jose and Oakland
were dedicated to Israel's late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin...”

When do you think this article was written?Recently? No, it was written in
December, 1995!!! It was
published long before Amadinejad was elected president and before Iran
announced it was interested in developing nuclear energy. In effect, the
Israeli Lobby had declared its own war on Iran long before the current
situation. Read the article to see how vehement AIPAC was even back then in
seeking Iran’s destruction.

A big fuss is being made in main stream
media about Iran wanting to “wipe Israel off the map”. In any discussion about
Iran
that point is brought up over and over again to show the “Hitler” qualities of
Iran
that must be checked by a nuclear attack from the U.S. But the reality is that
it is a bold faced lie. The Israeli government has been calling for the
extermination of Iran publicly numerous times for many years now. Did anyone
make a fuss about that? Here are just a few examples (and I can list many more)
taken from headlines of articles calling for Iran’s extermination by Israel,
before anything was said about Israel by Iran:

Bismillah [IslamCity] Marriage to the Ahle Kitab

2009-05-02 Thread adil naveed

Marriage to the Ahle Kitab

(A summary from the treatise:   The General Harm Caused to Muslim Youth)

by Sheikh Abdullah Ibn Zaid Âl Mahmûd,
Chief Justice of Shariah Court, Head of lslâmic Affairs, Qatar

Allâh has created women and men as complementary partners to each other.
Concerning women and their role with men, Allâh says:

So that you (men) find rest and joy in them. (30-21).

While He has made women the 'queen' and the mother in the home, He has charged
men with the responsibility of seeing to the needs of their women folk, and
their wives.

Therefore, in marriage, one has to choose a spouse who has the same spiritual
outlook and who has adopted lslâm as his or her way of life and be able to
fulfil the requisite roles. He or she must have the correct aqâid [beliefs] and
practically manifest these in the performance of salâh and fasting, etc.
Concerning a woman who possesses such qualities, Rasûlullâh Sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam has said: The woman who performs her five daily saâh, guards her
chastity and obeys her husband, can enter Jannah by whichever door she desires.
(Sahîh Ibn Hibbân)

Obviously these noble attributes can only be found in a pious Muslim woman,
since Din is the only true means of enhancing one's character and protecting
one against vile qualities. Nabî Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam also said, The
best of goodness for a man after taq'wâ [fear of Allâh] is a pious wife. If he
instructs her, she obeys him. If he looks at her, she makes him happy. If he
takes an oath vouching for her, she upholds him, and when he is away from her,
she guards herself (i.e. her chastity) and his wealth. (Ibn Majah)

A woman is the first and everlasting Madrasah for her children, and the
guardian of her home. Her adornment of herself with noble qualities and
beautiful character will invariably pass on to her children and everyone else
in her home. Therefore, the Hadîth has it that: Choose the one who is
religious, otherwise you will be dishonoured. (Sahîh Muslim)

Now, when a Mu'min [believer] is exhorted to choose a pious Muslim woman as his
marriage partner as against an impious Muslim woman, this is all the more
reason why he should not marry a Kitâbiyyah [A Christian or Jewish woman who in
this context maintains her religion without converting to Islâm].

Firstly, she has no Dîn. Then again our experience too has taught us that most
of the children of such unions end up themselves as Ahle-kitâb, since children
generally identify more easily with their mothers. They spend more time with
them, follow their example and accept their teachings whether good or bad, even
more easily. This has been witnessed on a large scale in Lebanon and Egypt. In
many countries, one will find that daughters of such marriages prefer marrying
Christians because of the encouragement and influence of their mothers. And
this is totally unacceptable and harâm in Islâm. It occurs especially when the
father dies, and the mother's influence and control is now consolidated on her
children. So, the children are nurtured according to the Christian mother's way
of life and belief. Not long afterwards, they begin to soil their chests with
the symbol of the cross and gradually reinforce their inclination towards
Christianity. In other
words, it Is as if the father of such children had voluntarily surrendered his
own children into the dens of kufr, and opened for them the gate of Jahannam.

Many young people who favour such marriages seem to be unduly impressed by the
mannerism of the kuffâr and this is due to their own lack of appreciation of
the real value of lslâm in their lives. Such people cannot be expected to yield
any real lslâmic influence on their own children's deeds and character.
According to a well-known maxim, the period of youth has been referred to as a
period of madness. Therefore, we find that very seldom do the youth carefully
consider the consequences of their actions. Another disadvantage of such a
marriage is that when such a woman dies, the Muslim husband does not inherit
from her such a marriage is that when such a woman dies, the Muslim husband
does not inherit from her estate because of the principal of 'the difference of
religion' according to nass [explicit textual evidence] and ijmâ [consensus].

Another argument presented in support of such marriages is that these women are
generally well educated and posses very refined manners. As Muslims, we should
realise that the Western educational system which these woman have been put
through, is in reality the pinnacle of jahl [ignorance] and dalâl [deviation].
They have been nurtured on such a way of life that condones and takes a very
lenient view of intoxicants, disobedience to Allâh and the kufr belief in the
divinity of Îsa alayhi salâm. Among the ideals of Western education today, is
the silly feminist notion of the 'freedom' of women which has it that a woman
should do whatever she wills
