will look at the throttling possibilities (instead of disconnections)
during the weekend.
I have a hunch it is doable. :-)

the authreg table.
I know that DB schema changes are difficult to deploy, so I do not want
to take the decision carelessly.

/etc/ld.so.conf.d/ file or add
the library path on a separate line.
IIRC ld.so.conf file gives library paths one per line.
Anyway, /usr/lib64 is a standard library path on 64bit systems, and you
should not need to add it manually.

This looks like a crash in SM.
Have you tried getting a stack trace?
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/StackTraces might help.

Looks like you have old release of GnuSASL (without
gsasl_session_hook_set() function) installed in system.

GTalk does not restrict federation
levels. But I think it's sensitive to invalid certificates, so if you're
going for encrypted S2S connections, make sure your certificate is valid
(i.e. get it from xmpp.net).

Cyrus SASL backend is currently abandoned and not maintained anymore.
It has known bugs with noone wanting to fix them.
The main reason for Cyrus backend inclusion in jabberd2 was GSSAPI
support. GnuSASL backend has GSSAPI support now, too.
The abandoned SCOD backend was removed lately.
There
configuration is described in
http://jabberd2.xiaoka.com/wiki/InstallGuide/QuickStartGuide
And the configuration file is heavily commented
