I use Java3D with OpenGL and my video card id a NVidia Quadro FX500 I installed
recently so I don't think this is a problem.
I'll go through the demos I can find.

Are you using OpenGL or DirectX ?

Well you have to get rid of the state-based thinking and start thinking in
higher levels and in graphs. Basically it shouldn't be so hard, but you
could miss some functionality you have
