[JAWS-Users] Re: Real Speak with Jaws

2007-05-02 Thread Chris Feist

Hi. Let me add that at least the last time I checked, the only way to
install it is from the CD that is shipped in the mail. It cannot be
downloaded from the Freedom Scientific Web site like JAWS itself.

From the CD that shipped with version 8.0, it's a standard install. I'm not
sure what all else you are asking, please clarify.

Hi gang, I remember seeing a post regarding the real speak voices as they
are regarded with JAWS, but I can't find it. Will someone tell me how to
make them work? Thanks in advance for your help. Oh yeah, I am now using
Windows Vista, gurr!

[JAWS-Users] Re: IE 6 Question

2007-04-10 Thread Chris Feist
It sounds like you may have a pop up blocker installed, like Google. One
way to get by some blockers like that is to hit shift enter or control
enter, but I forget which it is. It's one of those.

I once had the Google tool bar thingie on here before, and it was a pain. so
I went to add/remove programs and got rid of that sucker.

I'm sure someone else could explain this in greater detail, but that's my
guess, for what it's worth. HTH.

hello all. I am having a problem with IE 6. When I go to some web pages and
press enter on a link I will hear a noise and it isn't the clicking noise
that I would hear. this noise is a thumping noise and then it won't take me
to the link it will just make that noise and do nothing. I have to go to
where it says open link in new window for it to do anything. I am just
wondering what might be going on and why this might be happening? I am also
wondering what I can do to stop this? I am finding it quite annoying. I am
also using Jaws 7.0 and Windows XP Home. many thanks for all your help.

[JAWS-Users] pop corn RE: [JAWS-Users] Re: Email?

2007-04-09 Thread Chris Feist

Hi. And if I may add a question. If you use this to read your email, can
you configure it to leave some of your email on the server until you get
home to download it? The ones you want to keep that is? I'm intrigued by
the possibilities of this program.

Will this work with Outlook as well as OE?
Also, is this intended to be used on PCs other than the one you own?

Hello Patricia, Dave told me about pop corn, it is really a fine program,
can't say enough good things about it. I use it every day at work to check
my email. put it on to a thumb drive, put in your mail server pop info,
the same info like is in your out look express, you are good to check your
mail from any where. Don

[JAWS-Users] pop corn RE: [JAWS-Users] Re: Email?

2007-04-09 Thread Chris Feist

Ah ok, thanks. It sounds like it may do what I want it to do.

For example, if at first I wanted to leave all my messages on the server,
then after I downloaded them and read them, delete the ones I don't want and
it will then go and remove those I deleted from the server. This is a
setting in Outlook on my folk's computer which I use when I visit them. It
keeps my on line in box from filling up with unwanted junk. I'm able to
delete all the messages I don't want off the server, and then when I get
back to my place, I download all the email I wanted to keep.

At least Pop Corn sounds JAWS friendly. More and more programs I'm finding
are getting harder to navigate, like Nero, so I hear. I'll probably be back
with plenty of questions about that soon enough. Sigh.

Yeah, you have a choice, rather too read your mail right off the server,
useing popcorn are downloading the message, it is your call. you will see
that in the setup mail area. Don

[JAWS-Users] Re: Merge in JAWS 8 not complete

2006-12-11 Thread Chris Feist

This is the first time the merge utility hasn't worked for me, but it's
definitely not working right. So are you saying to copy only the JDF file
manually? Is that the correct file? Or are you saying that I have no
choice but to reenter all the changes again I made in the dictionary manager
for version 7.0?

*shutter*

sigh As I've said before never, never, never use the JAWS merge utility.
It's unreliable at best and the fact that somebody else has used it without
bad results; or that you've used it in the past without bad results; is
meaningless. Just copy the files manually. Do _not_ copy .jcf, .jss, .jsb,
.jkm, or .jsd files. If you have modified scripts, then make the
modifications over again from scratch (the merge utility won't touch
scripts, anyway).

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 8 acting quirky

2006-12-09 Thread Chris Feist

Hi. Has anyone else noticed some strange behavior from JAWS 8? I've been
forced to use Internet Explorer 7 on this computer since it's not mine. And
for the best response, I was told to go to JAWS 8.

JAWS 7.0 actually works great with it except for one issue which was
resolved in version 8. I couldn't type in any edit fields on line. So, I
downloaded the jaws 8 upgrade. And now I can type in the edit fields just
fine. The bug, or whatever it was, was fixed.

However, a bunch of other problems have come up with JAWS 8 that are, well,
more than just an aggravation.

For one thing, between groups of links and blocks of text, there used to be
a blank space. That way I could control down arrow to that block of text.
In JAWS 7 this always works, but in JAWS 8 that blank space is no longer
there. I checked, and that blank space is, poof, gone. So, when I control
down arrow to the next item, it skips passed the text to the next item below
it. It makes navigation a nightmare now. For some reason, JAWS 8 is
displaying text differently than JAWS 7.

Also, hot keys (if that is what they are called because I don't know what
else to call them) are often non-responsive.

Now what I am referring to here is where Web pages offer choices to hit the
alt key in conjunction with a letter, such as alt A, alt T, etc, it will
move the virtual cursor correctly to a particular link. Then all you have
to do is hit enter on it. It works great for quick navigation on a Web page
where you need to move from page to page very rapidly, such as roll playing
game sites. With JAWS 7, these keystrokes work great and the system flies.
But with JAWS 8, it's sluggish and often the key strokes don't even do
anything.

And thirdly, is sluggishness. With the new Internet Explorer 7, JAWS 7.0 is
like Sea Biscuit. But JAWS 8 turns my computer into Mr. Ed. I don't know
if it's a piggy or what.

This is so discouraging that I will be contacting technical support about it
to be sure. Yes, indeed. But while I'm collecting data on this big mess,
I'm trying all I can to resolve any issues on my own. Well, sort of on my
own... with help from you good people as well.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Also, if I may ask. I am getting a new computer next week. I am assuming
that Internet Explorer 7 will be my only choice to have on that new
computer. Is it possible at all that I can somehow get Internet Explorer 6
on a new computer so I can keep using JAWS 7.0 and not deal with these
problems which I fear may never be resolved? Pessimistic, I know, but it
comes from my past experience with messes like this. Usually, they never
get fixed and I just have to wait for another upgrade or something and hope
it gets better.

Thanks. And I hope this gets through. I've been no mail for a few weeks.
I came back to find that y'all have moved to Google.
