Well as I did earlier today I'm replying to you both on and off list in an
attempt to make sure you receive this message. You are still on here and
 no
the list is not dead although it would seem in some what critical
 condition
for the moment. Google has been giving those of us who run these things a
 bad time of late.

For the past week I've been setting up and testing out the Mailman program
on my server space that hosts this group's web page and of course my email
accounts. The list is at this time going to remain on here for a little
while longer at least until I'm fairly satisfied that the new
 configuration
is ready for prime time so to speak, and of course I bring the rest of the
team up to speed on it as well. Possibly June first at the earliest, but
that's not set in stone. This business of having to reset accounts is
getting tiresome with google. I'll climb down off of my soap box for now
 and
go check your account to see if it needs reset miss Sarah.

In the Internet Options Advanced tab, Jaws should read the items as,
 either
 on or off.

 There are no check boxes.

As far as I know, they stopped using check boxes after IE 4.

Again, these items should read On or Off.

 Hi Patricia,

I'm sorry, I can't speak for Jaws 8, as I am only up to 7, so if Jaws 8
reads it differently, I apologize and can only claim ignorance.

It should be noted that Jaws 7 and lower only reads those items as on or
 off.

The other thing I thought about is that it might be possible that you're
using Windows 98, and so the interface might be different, but either way,
you'd still be using IE 6, so the interface would be the same in both
 cases.

 Oh well. Grin.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Blocking sender in outlook express.

2007-05-14 Thread Patricia

An easy way is..
arrow to the email do not open it, press Alt M, S you will be asked if you
want to do this action press enter and then asked if you want all the
emails removed of this sender if so, press enter again..
Note..this blocks them from going to your inbox. They will however, still go
directly into your deleted folder.

Some people think if you open something or a program that jaws will read

Another thing did you try to rebooting, sometimes if you make any changes
it takes places after rebooting.

 Here's something I have used..

 First method:
Arrow down to the output plug ins. Tab once to winamp wave out plug
in and press alt C for the configure button.
Tab and check the checkboxes for volume control enable and the
one that says volume control alt settings method.
Enter on okay and then enter on close.
Second Method (recommended for XP users)
Tab from the output plug ins and select the Nullsoft direct sound
plugin and tab to the close button.

You should now be able to use your up and down arrow keys in winamp
to change Winamp's volume without effecting the software speech.

In winamp 5, the plug ins's are still in the treeview but for some
reason the PC cursor won't arrow down to them past skins.
A shortcut you can use is while you are in the main winamp window,
press control K for the visualization plug ins.
You will land in the preferences treeview on visualization.
Arrow up and you will find output, then input, and the main
 treebranch for plug ins.

If and only if your computer is running fine, you may wish to check and
 then
re select the Turn off system restore button. System restore adds
placements points or date/time into your system every time there is
change, addition or modification change to your system, as well as you
manually placing a restore point there yourself. These add up and
 become
quite large and also gets scanned by your spy ware and anti virus
 scanners
and will make them run longer than they have to.

So if you want to tweak your system and only if your system is running
 fine,
system now not JAWS , then do the above and afterwards you will still
 have
a system restore point to where your computer system is running good and
will throw out unnecessary system restore places you have accumulated
 from
 the Ice ages.

 Hope that made sense!

 Good Luck,
 Bob

Restoring your computer using System Restore, and Jaws.

This procedure was used successfully with Jaws 6.2, on an eMachine
computer, with an Intel 2.8ghz processor, 256mb ram, and 80gb hard
drive, with the display resolution set at 50% of the maximum available
screen resolution, and color pallet set at highest 32 bit.

 1. From the system restore window, choose, restore my computer to an
earlier time, and tab to the next button, and press enter.

 2. Use control home, to move to the top of the page, then arrow
downuntil you hear the current month and year. while arrowing down the
page, you will hear instructions for restoring your computer.

 3. While the cursor is positioned on the current month, shift tab, and
you will be on the previous month button. if you want to see the
restore points in the previous month, press enter on the previous
 month button.

 4. Follow the above steps to locate the month from which you want to
select a restore point from. Each time you select the previous month,
or next month, you can use the up and down arrow keys to move thru the
 text on the selected page.

 5. Once you have selected the month you want, from the available
choices,, arrow down the page until you hear

Downloading and installing adobe reader 8

 Go to the below link:

 http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep3.html?option=fullorder=1type=language=Englishplatform=WinXPSP2esdcanbeused=1esdcanhandle=0hasjavascript=1getsconly=1getgtb=1x=0y=0

Once the website loads, tap the letter X two times to move to the check
 box
that says (free Google Toolbar) and tap the space bar to uncheck it.
 This
will insure that you don't inadvertently download this annoying
 Toolbar.

You then need to tap the letter B two times or until you move to the
(download Adobe Reader button) and then tap enter to start the download
process. If you hear a blupey sound, this means that the program is
 being
blocked and you will need to hold down Alt and tap the letter N. then
 tap
your applications key, down arrow to install and enter. This will tell
 your
computer that it is OK to download the program.

You then will receive a message asking if you would like to run or save
 this
file. Up-arrow to run and enter. The download process will start. It
 may
take a few minutes to download. When it is dun, you will be placed on a
install now button, tap enter on this button. You now will be placed on
 a
next button, tap enter on this button. You now will be placed on
 another
install button, enter on this button. Now just sit back and let it take
 care
of it's self. When it has finished installing, you will be placed on a
finish button. Just enter on this button to complete the install. Keep
 in
mind at any time you would like to repeat the last prompt spoken, just
 use
the JAWS repeat command insert plus tab.

Now you will need to set up the program. The license agreement will pop
 up.
Shift tab back to the except button and tap enter. Now an accessibility
option screen will pop up, tab once to (use recommended settings and
 skip
setup button) and then tap enter. Now all you need to do is use alt
 plus
 F4
to close the program and the next time you receive a .PDF file you
 should
 be
 able to open it.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Using Jaws versions at AllInPlay

 Good Afternoon!
For those of you who use JAWS at AllInPlay, I would really appreciate your
feedback. I assumed that JAWS 8 would function similarly or perhaps even
better than my favorite version of JAWS. The greatest difference is
 apparent
when I play Crazy 8. I like to play fast, and when I use JAWS 5.1, the
 keys
respond fantastically, with no hesitation whatsoever.
Now when I use the latest upgrade added to version 8, it's a whole
 different
scenario. I need to change the typing echo setting to none, and even then
the keys are sluggish and believe it or not, the enter key is usually
 spoken
and requires more pressure. I'm serious, and no- I have not had anything
 to
drink. I know it sounds strange, but it's the truth, the whole truth, and
 nothing but the truth.
Okay now, would the verbosity settings for that one game be different for
each version of JAWS? I've compared the two, and there are additional
 items
listed in 8, but I cannot find anything significant enough to cause such a
difference in the performance of the key reaction. I am always extremely
apprehensive to make setting changes, but I did follow the advise of a
 tech
support guy from FTP and uninstall and reinstall the game package this
morning. I held my breath, but 5.1 still works great and 8 has not been
cured. I compared the option page and that is the same for both.
Obviously, if no one has any words of wisdom, I will continue using 5.1.
Perhaps 8 needs extensive medical attention, because it is reluctant to
surface after I close 5.1. There could be some petty rivalry going on
 within
 my tower.
I'll wait a day or two to address my next challenge to the minds of the
computer whizzes! It's comforting to know there are people just a few
keystrokes away that actually understand all this stuff.
 Have a wonderful Wednesday!
 For now...Shirley

 Hi Patricia,
 Try this:
 www.blind-computing.com/downloads/sgc10_rdr80_DLM_en_US.zip
This is the Adobe updater for the Adobe 8 reader.
Download it, unzip it, and run it, and follow the prompts.

Thanks. But when I did that microsoft internet I think it said blocked the

sound. Also, I remembered the instructions said to uncheck the google
toolbar which I did first and after the download link was the rest already
stated and this is what I need to know how to get around that step to

 Hi Patricia,

You can access the download blocker, sorry, I forget what that bar is
called, smile, by pressing the hotkey of alt+N.

This should let you access the Internet Explorer information bar.

Oops, just remembered what it's called. LOL.

Downloading and installing adobe reader 8

 Go to the below link:

 http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep3.html?option=fullorder=1type=language=Englishplatform=WinXPSP2esdcanbeused=1esdcanhandle=0hasjavascript=1getsconly=1getgtb=1x=0y=0

Once the website loads, tap the letter X two times to move to the check
 box
that says (free Google Toolbar) and tap the space bar to uncheck it. This
will insure that you don't inadvertently download this annoying Toolbar.

You then need to tap the letter B two times or until you move to the
(download Adobe Reader button) and then tap enter to start the download
process. If you hear a blupey sound, this means that the program is being
blocked and you will need to hold down Alt and tap the letter N. then tap
your applications key, down arrow to install and enter. This will tell
 your
computer that it is OK to download the program.

You then will receive a message asking if you would like to run or save
 this
file. Up-arrow to run and enter. The download process will start. It may
take a few minutes to download. When it is dun, you will be placed on a
install now button, tap enter on this button. You now will be placed on a
next button, tap enter on this button. You now will be placed on another
install button, enter on this button. Now just sit back and let it take
 care
of it's self. When it has finished installing, you will be placed on a
finish button. Just enter on this button to complete the install. Keep in
mind at any time you would like to repeat the last prompt spoken, just use
the JAWS repeat command insert plus tab.

Now you will need to set up the program. The license agreement will pop
 up.
Shift tab back to the except button and tap enter. Now an accessibility
option screen will pop up, tab once to (use recommended settings and skip
setup button) and then tap enter. Now all you need to do is use alt plus
 F4
to close the program and the next time you receive a .PDF file you should
 be
 able to open it.

The Adobe is strictly for reading PDF files? The player for listening to

You can do it one of 2 ways.
If you just want to change it on the fly, do an insert 2. That will cycle
between characters, word, none and bothe characters and word, but it will
 not stay that way.
If you want it changed permanantly, while in Windows Live, do an insert
 f2.
Arrow down to configuration and press enter.
Do an alt s for settings.
 Press enter on, user.
Tab to, typing echo and press your arrow key to characters and press
 enter.
Do a control s to save and alt f4.

[JAWS-Users] Re: installing Jaws Pro

2007-03-17 Thread Patricia

I had to do that too. FS said the pro would overwrite the standard with
additional setup or service files which they did that for me at their end..
The difference that they told me was, pro allows you to run in any operating
systems meaning any versions of windows. Standard only works for one version
home xp for instance.

I haven't experienced any problems with jaws that I'm aware of otherthan the
different upgrades getting use to a new version but it's been pretty minor.

Hi list,
as I mentioned a week or so ago, I was faced with having to upgrade my Jaws
standard, to Jaws Pro, since my work are running Windows XP Pro. I could
keep running my Jaws standard in 40 minute demo, but decided to avoid the
hassle. I wonder why FS don't just sell Jaws Pro, since my Jaws dealer, said
that there is no real difference between the two, apart from Pro running on
more operating systems. I have also not long redone my Jaws standard SMA. I
therefore, had to pay the difference between the standard and pro SMA. I
haven't received my Jaws Pro CDs yet, despite ordering it a week ago. Will I
need to uninstall my Jaws standard, in order to install Jaws pro? I already
have Jaws 8.0 on my desktop. This is the Standard version. I assume that I
will be getting Jaws 8.0 for the Pro version. Will I be able to have both
versions of Jaws 8.0 installed at same time? Will I be able to tell the
difference between the two icons if I do?
Thanks a lot
Jason

I totally forgot the alt-control-K was already in use so I reassigned it

I had to get my son to get over here and bail me out of my jam and I was

 the
list so it doesn't happen to someone else as if you live alone and no one
 to
assist you it can be rather worrisome when your not getting any speech.

In case some are not aware of what I did here, I installed jaws 7.10 with

 I
goofed and put it on the one for jaws 7.10.

First make sure you have the latest version of Java installed. I got
 version 6 from sun java.
Once this is installed, then get the latest java access bridge, I have
 version 2, and install it.

Now that this is done, download and install lime wire. You will find
that it's a little sluggish, but it will work and I find it's not as
sluggish with Java 6 as it was with java 5 for some reason.

 Hello there

Does anyone know if Limewire can be used with Jaws? If limewire
doesn't wirk, is there any other free P2P software out there that can
be down loaded from the net.

 Cheers

 Sherry,

I recommend you run all other sounds through the default sound card and
also set up an entry in the JFW.INI file to allow you to ask JAWS through
the secondary sound device. I will include the pertinent entries in my
JFW.INI file because I think that will be more clear than the abstract
explanation as how to do this:

 [Synthesizers]
 Synth1Name=accentsa
 Synth1LongName=Accent SA
 Synth1Port=Com1:9600,n,8,1,x
 Synth1Driver=accentsa
 Synth2Name=eloq
 Synth2LongName=Eloquence for JAWS
 Synth2Driver=eloq
 Synth3Name=eloqUSB
 Synth3LongName=Eloquence via USB for JAWS
 Synth3Driver=eloq
 Synth3Port=USB Audio Device

Note that the Synth#Driver=eloq entry for both the standard Eloquence and
via the secondary audio device are identical; this is because eloq is the
program that will run regardless of which device is in use. Also note
 that
the Synth#Port for the entries deploying the secondary audio device is
utilized and should be the exact name identified from the Audio tab of
 the
Control-Panel/SoundsMulti_media. This will be identified from the
Preferred Device list and must match that list entry exactly.

The Synth#Longname=__ can be anything you like, but it would be
helpful if it reflects the synthesizer and indicates that it may be the
primary or secondary audio device -- this entry is where the list of
synthesizers comes from when going into the JAWS
 Languages/Change-Synthesizer menu.

The Synth#Name=__ entry is also quite open for whatever you like to
use, but remember that this value will be used in any JAWS shortcut that
will instruct JAWS which synthesizer to use. For example, the Start JAWS
with Eloquence item in the JAWS sub-menu calls for JAWS to run with the
/seloq switch in force. In other words, if you want to tell JAWS to run
with a specific synthsizer from launch you use the /s switch and the
 value
of the Synth#Name= entry for that particular synthesizer.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

 HTH

 Category: Configuration Manager

 Short Description:

How to permanently turn off the Top and Bottom Edge Alert

 Problem:

When you are in a list view or in an application, your computer plays a
sound when you reach the top or bottom of the list view or document. For
 example,
in Notepad, if the cursor is positioned at the top of the file and you
 press
the UP ARROW key, your computer plays a sound to notify you that you are
 at
the top of the file and cannot move up any further.

In the JAWS Verbosity settings, there is a setting for Top and Bottom
 Edge
Alert, which is on by default. You can turn this setting off, and you
 will
 no
longer hear the sounds to notify you if you are already at the top or
 bottom
of the file or list view. However, there are some other areas of Windows
 where
you will still hear the Top and Bottom Edge alerts. These alerts may be
undesired or interfere with activities such as recording. If you want to
 disable
all top and bottom edge alerts, it can be done by modifying the
 Default.jcf
 file.

 Solution:

To permanently turn off Top and Bottom Edge Alerts, do the following:
 list of 8 items
 1. Open the Start menu and choose Programs or All Programs, JAWS 7.10,
 Explore JAWS, Explore Shared Settings.
 2. Locate the Default.jcf file
 3. Press the RIGHT CONTEXT MENU key, navigate to the Open With choice,
 and
 select Notepad.
 4. Press CTRL+F to open the Find dialog, type TopAndBottom and then
 press
 ENTER.
 5. Press ESC to close the Find dialog box. The cursor will be on the line
 of
text that reads TopAndBottom Edge Alert=1.
 6. Delete the value of 1, and replace it with the number 0. The line
 should
 now read as TopAndBottom Edge=0.
 7. Save the file and exit Notepad.
 8. Restart JAWS for the change to take effect.

I made this change, no clunking sounds, in lists, or top and bottom,
 documents.

 4. Press CTRL+F to open the Find dialog, type TopAndBottom and then
 press
 ENTER.
 5. Press ESC to close the Find dialog box. The cursor will be on the
 line
 of
text that reads TopAndBottom Edge Alert=1.
 6. Delete the value of 1, and replace it with the number 0. The line
 should
 now read as TopAndBottom Edge=0.
 7. Save the file and exit Notepad.
 8. Restart JAWS for the change to take effect.

I made this change, no clunking sounds, in lists, or top and bottom,
 documents.

Lime wire does work but there's a few things you need to do.

Why are people doing this??? The fix is an automatic update from MS.
 There
is no need to download programs to fix something that MS already has a
 patch
 for.

Hi Jeff,

I've never used the update feature this way..but I checked it out and didn't
complete it as of now till I am clear here as to make sure by doing so the
update knows what it is updating and not putting the wrong thing on my
computer. I noticed I had to paste in a code and tehn do the update process
so just wanted to make sure that it gives me the update for xp and not vista
through this process?

Yes we should. There is a section on the homepage of the FS website that
 has
a section with a link for those of us running Windows XP and Windows 2000.
 I
have already done this. If you are running JAWS 8 and go to the help menu
and choose check for updates, you can get it from there or you can
 manually
download it from the FS website.

Hi Patricia,

I have Outlook 2003, and this is what you need to do.

Hit ALT-T for Tools.
Hit O for Options.
This puts you in a properties sheet. The first tab that you will land
on his Preferences. Go to the Email Preferences button and hit the
spacebar. Go to the Advanced Email Options and hit the spacebar. Make
sure that the checkboxes for Automatic Name Checking, and
automatically complete addresses in the To, CC, and BCC fields are
checked. Tab over to OK and hit ENTER. Tab over to OK and hit ENTER.
Then she should be good to go.

Thanks Donny, she is looking I guess for a quick fix so that like in outlook
express when typing a few or just one letter of a persons name the auto-fill
inserts the email info into the designated field, but maybe this isn't

 Hey Patricia,

There are probably several ways that you can do the address for an email
 in Outlook, but as they
say, There is more than one way to skin a cat! Here's what works for
 me:
 1. Type in the first name of the person you want to send the email too.
 2. Press control + K (a prompt will appear giving you all the people with
 that name. If there are
more than one, just arrow down to the right name and press enter)
 3. Tab down and fill in the Subject line.
 4. Tab down to the edit field and type the message.
 5. When finished hit alt + s or control + enter, to send the message.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions or if I can help you any
 further, please feel free to
call me at the number in the contact info at the bottom of this email.

 See ya,

Tell your sister that Outlook does this a bit different. When she is
creating a new message and she's in the to field just start typing the
person's name in. She can either type part or all of it. Outlook will
fill it in automatically after she leaves the field. If there is more

Please ignore my last message - I was thinking about something else while I
wrote it! What I meant was that the facility whereby Outlook autocompletes
an email address does not work in Outlook 2000 and requires a later version.
The Control + K method or just tabbing to the next field will both work,
although the latter can take a couple of seconds to kick in.

Patricia,

I think Outlook 2000 does not have this facility; a later version of
Outlook, such as Outlook XP and Outlook 2003 is required to give the same
facility as Outlook Express.

It is my experience that you have to build your addressee's up. Example if
you haven't sent this person an email in outlook yet you have them as a
contact or in an address book in Outlook you need to send them an email
 and
then after sending it they will be there the next time Kind of like
building it up. That's what I had to do after I reformatted even though I
save my pft or pst folder and reinstalled it after the reformat.

Anyway after the first letter or two of the person you are addressing the
email to the down arrow goes through the letter of the alphabet to whom
 you
are wanting to send the email to. Once you find the name it is highlighted
when using the arrows, hit enter and the name goes in the TO: box of the
email then tab to subject line , fill that on if you choose and then one
more tab puts you in the text field or body of the email you want to
 compose.

 Patricia,

Tell your sister that Outlook does this a bit different. When she is
creating a new message and she's in the to field just start typing the
person's name in. She can either type part or all of it. Outlook will
fill it in automatically after she leaves the field. If there is more
 than
one match in the address book she will be prompted to choose which
 address
she wants once she goes to send the message. She can confirm what is in
 the
field by hitting the alt key and the # 3 key on the keyboard not the

Another useful Outlook keystroke is alt-k it will complete any incomplete
addresses. Jaws 7+ works quite well with Outlook 2003 in that as soon as
one starts typing an address that has been recently used Outlook will pop-up
a list of possible matches and Jaws 7 / 8 will read that list in the
standard PC cursor. In Jaws 5 I had to move jaws cursor to PC cursor and
then do a few down-arrows and then a right click to select from the list.

Yes, you can have both applications installed and running at the same
 time,
but remember that there will likely be a contest between the two email
clients to download your email messages from your ISP. Now, you can
certainly make sure that one client (let's call it Client A) always
 fetches
your email before the second client (let's call this one Client B) and
likewise make sure that Client A never deletes messages after downloading
them. This way, Client A would download your messages and leave them up
 on
your email server for Client B to download a bit later -- and of course
 you
would probably want Client B to delete messages from the email server
 after
 downloading.

Now, think about this; you have all these duplicated email messages and I
can tell you from personal experience that using two email clients for the
 same account(s) does get confusing.

Another approach is to have Client A get messages from one account(s) and
Client B get email from a different account(s). The advantage of this is
that you would always know which email accounts you were getting email
 from
when either in Client A or Client B. But you can do this via message
 rules
and loading your email into separate folders.

The short answer to your question is, YES, you can have Outlook and
 Outlook
Express both on your system. The more appropriate question is just why
would you want to? Only you can answer that!

I have never performed this action..

But I just did as a test and didn't experience jaws not speaking at any
point. Maybe I didn't do it right..

I opened a black worksheet, pressed alt I, arrowed to picture...then to
file...I then tabbed to lookin and the default is Picture, I up arrowed
 once
to my documents and entered on it, then tabbed past the next to boxs this
landed in graphic/edit area. I did route jaws to hear what was going on
 the
name of the pic was in this area.. I then pressed Alt S which is to put it
 in the worksheet.

Of course, I have no way of knowing less I send it to a friend of mine who
can see if the pic is in the file..
But at no point for me did jaws not speak.

Great! That was a lucky guess.
It's just easier to tell them to select all since it won't hurt anything.
Since you use Excel a lot, maybe you can answer a question of mine.
When I insert a graphic into a cell, Jaws stops speaking. The only thing
 I
can do is to press escape a couple of times to get it speaking again.
Any solution for this? Or is that about all I can do?

I found this at JFWlite under hints/tricks..

Creating Charts with Excel and JFW
 Here is an example.
say you're in excel and in column A, you have the names of sales reps
 going
 from
A1 down to A10. then in column B, you have the amount each has sold that
 month.
So, you have two lots of data, sales rep name and their sales.
go to the bottom cell,B10 and highlight up to the top using control shift
 and up
after you have located yourself in B10.
Now go to the insert menu and arrow down until you hear chart.
Enter here and the chart wizard will start up. This is a four step
 wizard.
let's say your boss wants a pie chart.
In step one you are given a whole load of chart types you can choose
 from.
 go to Pie and enter.
the second step of the wizard will then start and give you the co-
 ordinates,cells, you have selected.
 you keep pressing next button.
on the third step, you will be asked if you wish to assign label and
 following
the steps within this step this is tricky but becomes easier with
 practice.
 The
fourth step asks if you want to put the chart in the sheet or to a
 separate
document, this is up to you but I normally go for a separate document as
 you
 can
then copy and paste into a word document and place text above or below
 the
 chart.
You then click finish, and hey presto, a pie chart. Or indeed, any other
 type
 of chart you want.
If you are using a colour printer, the charts appear in colour, if not
 they
 will
be printed in various shades of grey.
Also, while still in excel you can go to the view menu and into Zoom, to
 make
the chart appear much larger on the printed sheet.

[JAWS-Users] Outlook Address Book

2007-02-27 Thread Patricia

Hello,

My sister at her job uses Outlook 2000 and after using Outlook Express 6
from home she is having some troubles doing some of the same things in
Outlook and asked me for help, but I use Outlook Express.

She needs to know how to make her address book so that when she goes to send
an email and starts to fill in the persons email address it will
automatically fill it in.

Thanks for any help..

Patricia
