[JAWS-Users] Re: SPAM FIGHTER AND JAWS

2007-05-24 Thread Sarah

I could not even use the took bar at all. clicked on the spam fighter thing
and got nothing. no context menu no options menu, nothing.. I might go to
there website and complain loudly.

: I downloaded and installed the fore-mentioned, and was not impressed.
: The install was typical, but the user interface leaves much to be
: desired. On the system I tested it on, the Jaws cursor had to be
: used for the entire configuration process, and that was a stretch.
: When I opened Outlook Express, then the program really showed it's
: true colors,
: stealing resources from Jaws.
: It might be a good program, with respect to what it does for spam,
: but I don't like a program that requires the Jaws cursor as the only
: way of navigation,
: not to mention being a resource hog.
: I don't want to discourage others from trying it, as it may react
: differently on their systems,
: but it just doesn't appear to be a Jaws-friendly program.

[JAWS-Users] Re: a wierd jaws issue, message to Sarah directly

2007-04-16 Thread Sarah
Well if you have jaws 7 you don't need the updated driver.

SAG

: Hi John,
:
: Below is what I got from Freedom Scientific knowledge base. I had it
: for several years as a reminder, but I think that nothing has
: changed. I am currently using PCI sound card for my Jaws 8.0 and my
: main speakers are used for music and other sounds. I also do
: recording of my LPs and the Jaws speakers does not interfere with the
: recordings.
:
: Editing the jfw.ini file:
:
: 1. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, browse your hard drive to
: the currently running version of JAWS and find the jfw.ini file in
: that folder.
:
: 2. Press ENTER to open.
:
: 3. You should find some lines that read:
:
: Synth1Name=eloq
:
: Synth1LongName=Eloquence for JAWS
:
: Synth1Driver=eloq
:
: The number doesn't matter, it may be 1, 2, or 3, but it must be the
: same for all entries for Eloquence.
:
: 4. Add the following line after the driver line: Synth1Port=SB Live!
: Wave Device Of course, you need to make sure that the synth number
: matches the other
: lines, so that if the Driver line read:
:
: Sytn3Driver=eloq
:
: Then the port line would read:
:
: Synth3Port=SB Live! Wave Device
:
: The text after the = sign in the Port line comes from Control
: Panel/Sound Multimedia/Audio tab It must be one of the entries that
: can be chosen for Preferred
: Playback device.
:
: 5. Save your changes and exit Notepad.
:
: Now you must install the updated driver. As long as JAWS is running
: and speaking through Eloquence, eloq.jls cannot be simply overwritten
: when unzipping
: the file. You will need to switch to NoSpeech or MS SAPI to get the
: eloq.jls to overwrite properly.
:
: 1. Download the file from
:
: ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/eloq.zip
:
: 2. Unzip the zip file into the root of the active JAWS directory
: where you made the change to the jfw.ini file.
:
: 3. Restart JAWS and it should now be speaking from the sound card you
: wanted.
:
: 4. If not, make sure the entries are correct in the jfw.ini file and
: that your sound card is indeed installed correctly. Most audio and
: music production
: software allows you to select a sound device for it as well, so it
: can use one sound card while JAWS uses another.
:
: Note: This is what I put in my JFW.ini
: Synth1Port=Creative Sound Blaster PCI
:
:
: Hote this helps

There's through alt F, then folders, then compact all folders. Or
 through

Usually when it's time OE will tell you it needs to do it and ask
 you if you
want to compact now. Depending on how many depends on how long it

 Try this.
Close all of your running applications. Including OE, any instant
 messaging programs, everything except Jaws.
Do a windows key r for run.
 Type in, %temp%
Note the percent before and after temp.
After you have it typed in, press enter.
This should bring up a list of temp files you have.
Do a shift delete and say, yes to are you sure you want to delete.
After all are deleted, do an alt f4 to close.
And one more thing, open OE.
Do an alt t for tools, then an o for options.
In the general tab, tab to, automatically log on to windows messenger
and uncheck it. I know you don't use it, but make sure it is
 unchecked anyway.
Tab to OK and press enter.
That is about all of the help I can give you on this without having
you uninstall OE and reinstall it.
 Good luck.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Using Jaws versions at AllInPlay

2007-03-28 Thread Sarah
Hello. di dyou turn key interupt and reading interupt in the allinplay.jcf file?
TSC

SAG

 Good Afternoon!
For those of you who use JAWS at AllInPlay, I would really appreciate
 your
feedback. I assumed that JAWS 8 would function similarly or perhaps
 even
better than my favorite version of JAWS. The greatest difference is
 apparent
when I play Crazy 8. I like to play fast, and when I use JAWS 5.1,
 the keys
respond fantastically, with no hesitation whatsoever.
Now when I use the latest upgrade added to version 8, it's a whole
 different
scenario. I need to change the typing echo setting to none, and even
 then
the keys are sluggish and believe it or not, the enter key is usually
 spoken
and requires more pressure. I'm serious, and no- I have not had
 anything to
drink. I know it sounds strange, but it's the truth, the whole truth,
 and
 nothing but the truth.
Okay now, would the verbosity settings for that one game be different
 for
each version of JAWS? I've compared the two, and there are additional
 items
listed in 8, but I cannot find anything significant enough to cause
 such a
difference in the performance of the key reaction. I am always
 extremely
apprehensive to make setting changes, but I did follow the advise of
 a tech
support guy from FTP and uninstall and reinstall the game package
 this
morning. I held my breath, but 5.1 still works great and 8 has not
 been
cured. I compared the option page and that is the same for both.
Obviously, if no one has any words of wisdom, I will continue using
 5.1.
Perhaps 8 needs extensive medical attention, because it is reluctant
 to
surface after I close 5.1. There could be some petty rivalry going on
 within
 my tower.
I'll wait a day or two to address my next challenge to the minds of
 the
computer whizzes! It's comforting to know there are people just a few
keystrokes away that actually understand all this stuff.
 Have a wonderful Wednesday!
 For now...Shirley

 Hi list,
I think this issue was mentioned on the list before, but forgot the
information on it. At work, They use a log-in screen to get into the
system. Jaws doesn't read this screen. I therefore have a not so fun
time trying to log in. I think I remember someone else on the list
having a similar issue. If I remember correctly, I think the solution
was having Jaws run as a service. Or was it the other way round i.e
have Jaws run as an application? Am I on the right track? If so, how
do you choose how Jaws runs? If I am wrong, is there a solution to my
problem? I will be using Jaws Pro 8.0 at work, on a desktop running
 Windows XP Pro.
 Thanks a lot

[JAWS-Users] Re: Jaws reading log-in screens

2007-03-21 Thread Sarah
nope. I tried it n my system adn still had no speach. I had to power cycle the
thing.

I think this happens because the keyboard is locked. Hitting
CONTROL-ALT-DELETE should get the speech back. At my work, the IT
folks have the computers programmed to lock after 20 minutes of
inactivity. If I am in the office when it happens, I hear JAWS read
the screen that pops up, and then it goes silent. Fortunately, this
does not effect the Braille display, so I can read that screen with
the Braille display, even though there is no need to, because all I
have to remember is to hit CONTROL-ALT-DELETE and enter my password,
hit ENTER, and then everything is bakc to normal for at least 20 more
minutes. The interesting thing though, and a bit off topic, is that
for some reason, this automatic lock thing is defeated by Window
 Eyes.

I believe you will find it if you try to reinstall jaws from the

that it came from in the first place.

 Hi Sarah,

You need to re-install JAWS without uninstalling it first..

Just try to run the installation file, and you will need to select
 between 3 options:

 Modify, repair or uninstall.

[JAWS-Users] Re: setting up an internet radio station

2007-03-14 Thread Sarah

Hello. I did a shourcast tutorial once eather on BCT or my own podcast but I
can't remember where it is. I made some mistakes and learned from them and
said what not to do.

 How you doing David

I don't really know where to start. I am just toying with the idea,
 but
want to know how difficult it would be as a jaws user. I have looked
 at the
Shoutcast option, and although it seems pretty straight forward, I
 haven't a
clue what there talking about. The technology side of it is all new
 to me.
I have worked in variousFM radio stations before as a presenter, but
 it was
easy there. All I had to do was phone an engineer. Is your station
 an
internet one? Did you go for Shoutcast? Let me know what it's
 called and I
 can check it out.

 Cheers for now

 Johny

2007-03-10 Thread Sarah
Hello. go to www.shoutcast.com or www.icecast.org. I don't know if the second
lin is accurate but google icecast and you should come to the homepage.

 How you all doing

I am thinking of starting up an internet radio station, but am
getting totally bogged down with all the different routes you can go.
I've tried to find out an easy way to do it, but a lot of sites I've
looked at talk about doing things with the PC at the initial start up
promp, before Jaws boots up. Has anyone had any experience of
setting up an internet station and using Jaws? It would be great if
 there was.

Looking forward to a deluge of replies.

Especially the check disk and the scan disk and I know for a fact

fixed some porblems I was having overhere in a couple of

 how could
I get rid of that screen before..

it might let you know but if it is cloosed and it lets you know you
do it mine comes up with the message wich doesn't make any sence.

I've seen that before not in compacting though..
I think I just either alt tab around that or alt f4 on it.
I think it happened once when I closed OE too fast when I had sent
 out an
 email come to think..
How do you go about compacting?
There's through alt F, then folders, then compact all folders. Or
 through
 tools/options to the maintance page.

Usually when it's time OE will tell you it needs to do it and ask
 you if you
want to compact now. Depending on how many depends on how long it
 will take
and I just let it do it and when it's done I'm right back where I
 was when
it started usually in my inbox.

[JAWS-Users] Re: turning off the monitor

2007-03-03 Thread Sarah

You don't run the program as normal. you make a shortcut to wizmo and put it
someware then edit the properties of that shortcut to meat your actions such
as this
C:\3archives\programs\wizmo.exe wizmo reboot
that will tell my computer to reboot if I hit enter on it.
TC

SAG

Well, I don't even get a chance to install it. When I activate the
executable file, I get a dialogue of why the program was created and
 an exit
button, but no next, setup or anything else.
I can only read the information by using the Jaws cursor, so was only
 wondering what I am missing.
I know, I know, I am missing the setup button.

 an

 Any suggestions?

 Hi Stu,
If you don't come up with a solution from the computer itself, I
 believe you
can use Wizmo to blank the screen.
You can pickup a copy from:

Singe is a zero install program and there's even an audio tutorial

[JAWS-Users] Re: the reply to one person feature

2007-02-01 Thread Sarah
actually half the time no they are not in my address book. I think I'll just
repair jaws again and see if that works..

I should note, and it adds a wrinkle, that the Reply-To-Sender script
doesn't always swork - the sender is sometimes not displayed in the
to field of the reply message - especially, it seems, at least some
list messages. Yes, the reply is opened and all of that, but you
still have to type in the sender's name or email addy. (Not can it,
but does it, make a difference if you already have the address in
 your Address Book?)

Sarah is right Donny. I forgot about that step. The F5 removes the focus
from any particular link on the Desktop. Then you can press Alt V and get
your settings. Sorry Donny. I do that without even thinking about it.

Donny, under the View option, there is one called List. Once you have
accessed that option by pressing Alt v, press L for List. Usually,
 the
system will automatically exit the menu and place you back in the main
desktop screen. Now, you will have a list of icons which are much
 easier to
 use with Jaws.

 101 useful Run Commands

Guys do you use the Run feature in WINDOWS XP? For most, this feature
remains unused (or rarely used). Why is that? Well, First off nearly
 all of
 the Run
Commands Correspond to a particular Control Panel Item or a Utility,
 Tool or
Task that can be accessed through W*NDOW$. There are, however, tools
 and utilities
that I bet you never knew you had that can be accessed through the
Run feature. The main reason most people don't use the Run feature
 is because they don't
know the Commands. So, to solve that problem, I decided to put

I have not made any changes in my start up. This is a random

[JAWS-Users] Re: trouble with a tool bar

2007-01-09 Thread Sarah

I unstalled that spam toolbar. OK. an example. if my inbix showes 12 unread
and one readfor a total of 13 messages, and this item is on the toolbar,
outlook express will show 13 messages 0 unread but when i hide the read
messages it will show one unread. Now when I go back to the inbox it will
show the read messages and I have to go to view and hide read messages again
and again and again.
Having never installed an item to the OE toolbar, I'm not sure what
 you're
experiencing. Can you give an example? If you remember, we had that
discussion here a month or two back about that spam filtering program
 you
were using and I mentioned that it would not respect the same item,
 so I'm
 thinking it's that.

next time i come back to it. if I uninstall the item the problem goes away.
This has hapened with every tool. bar item I've installed. the tatus bar and
messages are screwing up. I can record eveditnce if you want.

 Sarah -\

Do you mean the Toolbar or the Status Bar? I don't know how you're
 seeing
the number of read and unread messages on the Toolbar.

On the assumption that you meant the Status Bar (announced with
INSERT+PgDn), I think this is working as designed. If you change it
 for a
mail folder that you've created, that setting is retained, but the
 Inbox is
not controlled by that setting--you have to set it separately and
 once you
do, it _should_ stay set. I just tested this theory and it works on my
 system.

I unstalled that spam toolbar. OK. an example. if my inbix showes 12
 unread
and one readfor a total of 13 messages, and this item is on the
 toolbar,
outlook express will show 13 messages 0 unread but when i hide the
 read
messages it will show one unread. Now when I go back to the inbox it
 will
show the read messages and I have to go to view and hide read
 messages again
 and again and again.

[JAWS-Users] Re: trouble with a tool bar

2007-01-09 Thread Sarah

Hmm. I'll try posting this to a news group I'm in and see what's up. Thanks
for trying.
 Sarah -

I suspect very strongly that this is an Outlook Express problem, not
 a JAWS
problem. The issue seems to be that a lot of add-ins that create new
 Toolbar
entries destroy the ability of the setting that controls the ability
 to see
only unread messages, just as we saw with that anti spam application.
 The
only way that I know to verify this would be to have a sighted person
 stand
by while you open Outlook Express without JAWS running and then see
 if the
behavior is the same as it is when JAWS is running. Since JAWS has no
 way of
controlling what is or is not displayed in any application, I can't
 believe
that it can possibly be a JAWS issue at all.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Copying JAWS Files

2007-01-05 Thread Sarah

actualy j in stall will do all that for you. the folder of back ups can be
anyware even on an external drive.

I suppose you could, but that'd involve more work setting up the path
within
the self-extracting .exe file. You could just ZIP up the files to be
moved,
then extract them to the user files folder in the newly installed
version,
but you'd have to know what the exact path is and to keep things as
simple
as possible, I deliberately didn't get into that issue. For anyone
who wants
to know, the exact path to all user files folders since JAWS 6.0 is:

C:\Documents and Settings\user_account_name\Application Data\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\xxx\Settings\ENU

where xxx is the JAWS version, either 6.0, 6.10, 6.20, 7.0, 7.10, or
8.0.

Here is something sort of neat for you Outlook users.
Want to send a New Years message at the stroke of midnight but don't
want to
be on your computer to do it?

Try this.
Create your message just as you normally would, but before you send
it, do
an alt p for options.

If alt p doesn't work for you, do an alt v and arrow down to options
and
press enter.

Next, tab to, do not send before and press your spacebar to check it,
or use
the hotkey, alt b.

Now tab one time to the date.
Type in the date in, mm/dd/yy format. In this case you would type in,
01/01/07.
Tab one more time and type in the time in, hh:mm AM or PM. In this
case you
would type in, 12:00 AM

Now just press enter and then send your message as you normally
would. The
message will stay in your out box until midnight on New Year's eve.

Of course you will need to be online and have Outlook open in order
for the
message to be sent.

You might also want to set Outlook to check for messages every 1
minute if
you don't have it set that way now.

I use this feature to send out birthday messages so I make sure I
don't
forget to do it on that day.

Sorry, but I don't know of any way you can do this in Outlook Express.
Denny

[JAWS-Users] Re: E-mail Etiquette

2006-12-29 Thread Sarah

Sometimes lists won't let you post using the bcc field. I've done it and they
always know when I do it and get after me for doing so.

I thought I would chime in on this topic.

While I agree that no one can completely prevent spam from getting
through to a list as large as these types, list members should have
to take some responsibility in ensuring that this does not happen.

On the off chance that I have to cross post, I find it helpful to use
the BCC field. Not only do you not see where the message went, but
you can also ensure that the subject line doesn't get corrupted with
varying list names and the like.

In terms of message rules, I find it helpful to use the subject line
as any messages that do come in, whether on or off-list I tend to put
in the originating list folders.

For example, if I send a message to the list and someone happens to
respond to me off-list, in some cases the Jaws-users name will still
be attached to the subject line, which is how I like it.

Other's may have other preferences, but that's just how I do it.

In conclusion, using the BCC field will negate any possibility of
messages having different subject lines in them.

My opinion is, don't use any screensaver. They are no longer needed.
And they do mess with JAWS focus stuff.

frustrating because it throws Jaws all out of focus. What do I need
to do to stay logged onto a screenname for a much more reasonable
period of time?
Thanks for your help in advance. ~Ken~

[JAWS-Users] Re: Combo box question

Hello. use alt+down arrow to open thelist box. i do that for all combo boxes
now a days.
I need information on navigating combo boxes. Here's the situation:
Running Jaws 7.1, and Windows XP pro. I have met up with combo boxes

on web sites that when you attempt to arrow down through the choices
Jaws will read the choice and then throw you back to the web page.
It is very difficult to navigate the choices. Is there a way to work
through this situation. thank you in advance for the information.

On www.jfwlite.com times the programs should be updated. There are mostly
already newer versions of the individual software offered there.
BTW: Still is RegScrubXP developed further? Because the old version 3.2 is
from 2004. The URL in the documentation is not valid any longer!

[JAWS-Users] Re: Reg-Scrub and Scripts

2006-12-07 Thread Sarah

No it looses focus. I pointed that out in my podcast about that.
http://media.libsyn.com/media/marrie/the_reg_scrub_program.mp3
Take care.

I need advice please if I installed the jaws scripts into the correct
version of jaws which I put them into 7.10 and am wondering if I
 should have
 placed them into jaws 7.0?
When I ran the program I kept loosing the window I could route jaws
 to read
but just doing the say line I would hear blank and when I did the
 title it
said the usual no window is active..
When I went to the desktop and alt tab then the reg scrub window
 appeared.
So I'm wondering if this is the way this works or if the scripts were
 placed
 into the wrong jaws version?

[JAWS-Users] Re: a strange issue with the properties dialogue in IE and jaws

2006-12-06 Thread Sarah

Ok. it seems to work so I think I'll stick with it until I need to use the
program and then change and reboot. to bad there is no way to save the
profile of that setting and go back and forth with a reboot.

Well, you could _try_ 32-bit temporarily to see if that corrects this
specific problem, then set it back. That way, you'd at least know if
 that's
your issue or not and save any further looking.

[JAWS-Users] Re: a strange issue with the properties dialogue in IE and jaws

2006-12-04 Thread Sarah

No go. I turned it off like you said and it is still not reading the on and
off states.

 Sarah -

There's one more thing that I can think of to try here. When you're
 in the
IE properties settings dialog, open the Configuration Manager. The
configuration file should be named System Dialogs.jcf. Press ALT+S
 followed
by the letter A to open the Advanced settings and see if Rely on MSAA
 for
List Views is checked. If it is, this probably means that you turned
 this
option on in the default configuration at some point, since I
 seriously
doubt that you'd have set it in the System Dialogs configuration.
