Thanks for satisfying my curiosity.

Yes, you can turn it off.
Go to control panel, mouse, hardware tab, properties, and find the disable
radio button.

I assume that when installing the video driver that you first visited the
manufacturer's website to see if you had the latest driver? Getting the
very latest driver has fixed this type of problem for me before.

Josh,
I don't know if there is a way to turn the touch pad off in settings but,
there should be a very small button at the center top edge of the touch pad
that will turn it off until or unless you push that little button again. HTH

Gena,
Some laptops don't have the button like the HP/Compaqs do. So, you need to
go into the control panel to do it. Windows 7 also has the option, under
hardware in the control panel as I recall.

Josh,
When I have my button pushed so that the touch pad is turned off, the left
and right mouse buttons are also disabled. I don't know if there would be a
separate setting for the left and right mouse buttons in the same area that
you found the setting for the touch pad or not. All I know

You disabled only the touch pad. If you want to disable the mouse buttons
as well, go to Control Pannel, Mouse. The first menu you are on should be

Tab to Okay. This should disable your mouse buttons.

Yes, you would probably need to enable the touch pad for a sighted person,

using your laptop, simply disable it again. I haven't disabled
