1. Press, Insert / Jaws key + 6, on the number row to open the Settings
Center, & press, control, shift + D, to open Settings Center default all

Let me reinforce what both Mike and Maria have said. Windows Update has
suddenly become unpredictable, and I also had an inexplicable experience
with the character/word key echo feature. Regarding Mike's suggestion

This might be a very basic thought, but have you tried going to the Options
menu and going into Basics and seeing what the echo is set to?

This same thing happened to me on a reinstall of Windows 7 just the other
day. What I did was to change my update settings to, Download updates but
let me choose whether to install

Something else you might try is using quick settings with insert v,
going to editing options and choosing character echo. You'd have to do
this with each program if it works.

Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't solve my problem. The notebook has
a dedicated AMD graphics card and I'm wondering if that is causing the
problem. I have emailed FS support.
