I don't have an answer for you regarding the problem, other than to echo someone else's comment that a recent JAWS 18 update supposedly addresses this issue. I can offer a work-around, however. You can configure Windows 10 to automatically log into a specified default user account. This

Hi Annette, You're not losing your mind. The logon process is really problematic with Windows 10 and JAWS. I've had issues with it right from my first Windows 10 and all releases of JAWS 18 and now 2018. I mentioned it to an FS techie when I called about another problem and his response was,

This is an issue following the recent Fall Creators Update to Windows 10. It is being patched in Jaws 18 and 2018. The issue only usually occurs when rebooting. When you next have updates try going to the desktop, press Alt + F4 and select shutdown. The updates should still install while the
