Josh, is there a little button just above your touch pad just below
the keyboard? if so, you may have pressed that button and turned
function key mode on. press it again if there is one and maybe that
will fix your problem.

I have not been able to locate the specific model number yet, but here is
the typical behavior that I have with my function keys. In order to perform
a function wit hthe function keys I believe it is known as the media keys I
have to first press the function key and then the f key that I want. If
I have not noticed the behavior with any other function key. I was trying to
locate the specific model number before responding, but it is a Dell
Inspiron laptop.

you, for instance, list your links by pressing jaws key f7? I know a while
ago somebody on this list mentioned that her function keys had reverted back
to hardware function keys, and that this happened out of the blue,
