Subject: [JAWS-Users] advice for a student sought

  Hi,
Due to a tbi, a high school student of mine in almost totally blind and has
use of one hand. He has learned some computer basics and the use of JAWS,
though has some ways to go with this.
He has trouble because of his limited detxterity. I would like him to rely
less on his para, and hope to get some advice from someone on list here.
Somoe of the functions which require pressing two or three keys
  simultaneously are the biggest problems.
I've told him I'm sure there are blind people using JAWS who have use of
just one hand, but I'd like to share any and all suggestions.
  Thank you.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Firewall and JFW version 7

  Hi,
My remote computer is being set up with a new VPN company. In testing the
computer with JFW version 7, I found that everything worked except the arrow
keys and the home and end keys. The Tech Support person turned off the
firewall and the arrow keys, etc. work. She then turned on the firewall and
turned off JFW and the arrow keys worked. So it appears to be some sort of
strange conflict between JFW and the firewall which is called
CheckPointIntegrity.

I have JFW version 7 on that computer and Windows XP Pro. I don't know what
other information to give.

  Thanks for any help,

  Eileen La Fond

Sorry for being so late. I forgot where exactly was creating envelope in
WP10, but in WP12 is in Format menu, then press letter v an you can get
the dialog box for creating the addresss. I think that Envelope is on
the same place in WP10 as well.

Shannon said the following on 02.10.2007 20:09:
I need to know where in word perfect I can find the equivalent to envelopes
in MS word, and how to access it with jaws. I would need this for word
 perfect 10 with jaws 6.20.

i would care, because putting out all that money just to have regular
function of a keyboard instead of all of its function is ridiculous.
If that keyboard has special functions that would make work easier.
Then no mater what the screen reader is, i would want those functions.
many keyboards will give you those function, but with jaws for some
its when the keyboard loads up to when those functions are lost.
For example the Microsoft wireless any model. If it loads first then
you get its function, but if jaws or any other keyboard mapping
program loads first. Then those functions are non working. Rebooting
can correct this, but who wants to reboot just to get something
working that should be doing it out of box like intended.

2007-10-04 Thread Tim
no they don't, they intercept video output. key presses should only
come into play if scripted for, and only those keys. Therefor any
other keys that have functions that are not scripted or part of the
current program. Should give there true function.
And that is how life works. Just because a company or something says
it has to work their way is a controlling aspect.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Using Jaws with Bluetooth keyboards

2007-10-04 Thread Rick Harmon
and i have all the functionality of the keyboard. I have to agree with the
others here. at $160 for this keyboard it's pretty much a waste if you
don't use the software included for all the functionality and fortunately
jaws doesn't mind microsofts software being installed.

Microsoft wireless keyboards including blue tooth work perfect with their
software installed. Using blue tooth elete here with the added software
installed and Jaws has no issues with it at all.

[JAWS-Users] Updating my Spybot search and destroy program

2007-10-04 Thread Lisa
Hello everyone,
I'm now using spybot version 1.3, and I'm going to update it to 1.5. I noticed
on the jaws-users web site that there are scripts for this program. Do I need
the scripts if I'm using jaws 8? Also, are the scripts self installing? When
I install the newer version of Spybot will it over ride my old version? Sorry
for all of the questions, but I want to make sure I get this program installed
correctly. Any help with this is very much appreciated!
Take care,
Lisa

http://www.aim.com/ on October 3, 2007. JAWS 9.0 users are all set
and ready to use the new 6.5 version, so please be certain to give it a
try!

Thanks to all the public beta testers who identified issues in our
initial release and reported them so well using the Beta Report form on
this page. As a result, many of the items were resolved and have been
included in this first update on October 4th. Others are still under
investigation, and we will be looking forward to posting more updates
soon.

* Resolved the reported issue where JAWS would begin to fail in
reading many items like the List of System Tray items (INSERT+F11) after
coming out of Hibernation or Standby mode.
* Resolved a reported problem with the Microsoft Outlook 2007
Inbox. JAWS would sometimes fail to speak the item you landed on when
moving rapidly across entries with similar attributes such as Unread.
* Resolved an issue reported in Outlook Express where selecting
text in reverse order using CTRL+HOME, would not display the expected
results in braille until doing a screen refresh.
* Resolved a problem reported in Microsoft Word and Outlook 2007
where text could be skipped during a Say All when preceded immediately
by a period followed by a comma.
* Resolved reported problems associated with reading by sentence
in Word and Outlook 2007 where sentences could be repeated.
* Resolved an issue in Outlook 2003 and Outlook XP when moving and
reading by Paragraph with CTRL+DOWN ARROW or CTRL+UP ARROW when in
Compose mode of an e-mail.
* Resolved an issue where JAWS was reporting the section and page
number in Word 2007 and Outlook 2007 when landing on a blank document or
e-mail.
* Addressed a long standing issue where JAWS would sometimes fail
to announce Copy, Cut, or Append to Clipboard. Once in this state, the
only way to get it to properly report the message was to restart JAWS.
* Changed the behavior in the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box
(INSERT+V) in Word and Outlook 2007 so that if the user changes or
toggles the item Say All, using Line, Sentence, or Paragraph, JAWS now
makes the change persistent across JAWS sessions.
* Resolved several reported problems in Microsoft PowerPoint 2007.

* Resolved a reported problem in Outlook 2007 where JAWS was not
automatically reading e-mail when the Messages Automatically Read option
was enabled using the Adjust JAWS Option dialog box (INSERT+V), if you
were moving forward or backward through mail messages using CTRL+PERIOD
or CTRL+COMMA.
* Resolved a reported issue in Outlook 2007 when using the Say All
command (INSERT+DOWN ARROW), while in a composition window of an e-mail
message, could leave Navigation Quick Keys on after stopping the Say
All.
* Resolved reported issue in Outlook 2007, Outlook 2003, and
Outlook XP where users were not able to activate links in Plain Text
messages.
* Resolved an issue reported where reading the table of contents
in Word documents could fail once moving away from the table of contents
and then returning to it.
* Resolved a reported problem of Say All only reading the top line
of the Read-only Help window in the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box
(INSERT+V) if you activated the dialog box while in Word 2007 or Outlook
2007.

Note: Users of Outlook 2007 will hear a message about an unknown
function call if they press INSERT+V while focused on Outlook 2007 in
build 9.0.353. This is being resolved for the next post and should not
hinder the use of the software at this point.

* Resolved an issue in Word forms, where JAWS was reading the F1
automatic Help messages prior to reading the status bar help text. This
will now be reversed.
* Added option in the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box (INSERT+V)
for Word to give users the ability to disable F1 automatic Help
messages.
*   Updated INSERT+F1 context-sensitive help and INSERT+H Hotkey
help in new Outlook 2007 Calendar support.
* Resolved a reported issue where using the UP ARROW and DOWN
ARROW in the Outlook 2007 Calendar while in Month View was sluggish.
* Resolved an issue reported where pressing ENTER twice, in a
multiline edit field in Internet Explorer while in forms mode, would
result in messages happening if you then type a number, as if Navigation
Quick Keys had been turned on.
* Added help text for the Information Bar Messages Announcement
item found in the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box (INSERT+V) while in
Outlook.

Note: Users of Outlook 2007 will hear a message about an unknown
function call if they press INSERT+V while

Eileen,

Do you currently use Outlook?

If so you can set up tasks and assign them to others or you can use
the Outlook Calendar and set up things as events leaving the field that
shows the status as free and then the time on the calendar isn't
blocked but the item still appears on the calendar and the reminder
function is still available.

If this sounds like something that might be helpful, please email me
directly and I can help you through the steps.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I use both of these functions with my staff and it works well.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Accessible Notification Software

Hi,
I need to find some software Accessible to JFW that I can use to send
out notifications to people in my org unit. In other words, I can set it
up to remind people of things on a weekly, daily, etc. basis without me
have to intervene.

I use Alarm 95 to notify myself of events, etc. however it does not send
out messages to others.

I am using JFW version 8 and Windows XP Pro.

Thanks for any help,

Re: [JAWS-Users] bcc field within microsoft outlook.

2007-10-04 Thread Seigenthaler, Carrie
Hi,
I can help with the Outlook BCC part of your question.

The way I know to do it is through the address book function.

While in an email, use control - shift - B.
This opens the select names function.
From here you can either choose someone from your contact list or any
other address lists like one on a server for work and click on it and
add it to the appropriate field, TO - CC - BCC.

You can tab around in this area.

Some of the fields you will see are edit fields where you can also
manually type in the email address you want.
Again, the TO - CC - and BCC fields are available to be typed in.

Hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessible Notification Software

2007-10-04 Thread Seigenthaler, Carrie
Simple answer is yes. There are lots of reminder options in Outlook
like flags on emails and due dates on tasks and then time specific
reminders on Calendar items.

If the folks you really need this for are on GroupWise also then the
Outlook functionality isn't much help though, Sorry.

If you want to learn how to do these in Outlook for your personal use
let me know.

Since this is more of an Outlook issue rather than a JAWS issue you can
email me off list and I can help more.

I use hybernate most of the time, as that's what happens when I close the
lid of my Windows XP laptop. It's just nice to close the lid, let it go to
sleep, then later open the lid and boom, it powers up again, without
 pressing a key.

The Hibernate option is useful, if you want to quickly power down your
system for a while, then quickly power it up again. (It is effectively
 off
until you power it up again when in hibernation mode Good for energy
efficiency. Standby uses a good bit of power. Normally JAWS would work
 with these settings.)

We have verified the issues of failing to read certain things such as
system tray list of items when going into and out of standby/hibernate.
This is being addressed now. For the time being, you will have to shut
down and restart, rather than hibernate please.

Hey all. Well for starters, jaws after returning from standby on a del
Windows xp home computer with two gigs of ram, will say Preparing to
standby. It happens if you use the command in outlook express to read
how many messages you have, and also occurs on Internet Explorer seven
when going into the links list. I didn't go much farther with this yet.
Also there's no subject, to or ccc being read when you tab into the
message field to send a message in OE. There's also no selected item in
the system tray, again happening after returning from stand by. I'm
slightly used to that because of the video card I have conflicting with
jaws if I close my lid, its a radian express 1150. If this can be
reproduced I'd appreciate it, otherwise I just spent quite a bit of
money last night for the renewal agreement. Thanks for reading, Siobhan

Good afternoon everyone:
Using jaws 8 with outlook express six on my laptop computer, where do I go
to whare the folder bar is. When I find it, do I either check it or uncheck
it. Next, whare do I go to find the outlook bar. and when I find it, do I
either check, or uncheck it for best results. The reason that I'm asking
these questions, is because my desktop computer is being fixed, and I'm
using my laptop computer until I get my desktop computer back. So I want to

[JAWS-Users] jaws scripts, and spybot search and destroy

2007-10-04 Thread Lisa
Hello everyone,,
I whent ahead and installed the new version of Spybot search and destroy over
the old version. I also got the jaws scripts installed, but I don't notice any
difference in the way the program works. How do the jaws scripts enhance the
use of the program? I have jaws 6, and jaws 8 on my computer. When I
installed the scripts I chose to put them in jaws 8. My question is, when I
get my jaws 9 do I go through the same process and just choose to put them in
jaws 9? Your help is really appreciated!
Take care,
Lisa

 Rosemarie,
If you did the automatic install, then your copy of jaws 5.0 should be in
a folder called jaws50 on your c:\ drive.
Try typing the following in the run... box (without quotes):

 c:\jaws50\jfw.exe

Once again, I did not write quotes intentionally; copy that string (with
ctrl+c) and then paste it in to the run... box (with
 ctrl+v).
Btw, if you're not the only person using this computer (i e, it is
shared), checking the automatically start jaws checkbox is
 highly not recommended.
However, if you are the only one on this computer, then do not be afraid
 to check the above-mentioned box.
I'm also still using Jaws 5.0 and thoroughly happy and pleased with it,
like a kid in a candy store, lol!
