Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 volume control
Hi Fanus, In Windows 7, open the start menu, and type the word volume in the search box you should get a list of results which you can down arrow thru. These results will vary from computer to computer, but try looking for adjust system volume. Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 volume control
Hi Rick Sorry for these stupid questions but I am stuck and my wife is not very computer literate. It seems that you know much about these technmical matters. After I installed win 7 and it restarted I noticed that there was not that familiar windows sound. Do you think it can be the volume which is muted or turned down. What worries me is that my wife says that there is A picture on the system tray which indicates that no speaker or headphone is plugged in, although my speakers are plugged in. It is an onboard realtech sound card. I tried to activate the windows narator but there is still no speech. Any suggestions will be helpful. Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 volume control
Hi Fanus, Have you made sure that the speaker volume is turned up, and that the speakers are plugged into the proper jack on the soundcard? The RealTek on-board soundcard has three jacks, and the one in the middle should be the speaker jack. You may need to go into the device manager, and locate the soundcard, and see if Windows is recognizing it, if it is not being shown in the volume mixer. Alternatively, if you plug in a USB headset, Windows should choose it as the default, and all sounds should come thru it. Even if you haven't installed specific drivers for the soundcard, Windows comes with generic drivers that will allow it to work with basic functions. [JAWS-Users] Key labels in JAWS12 Settings Center
Hi, Has anybody been able to mute (toggle mute button) keys in the key labels dialogue or tab in JAWS12 (Application or Default) Settings Center? In previous versions, you used the JAWS Configuration Manager and there were up to 84 keys in the list view; and you could mute a lot of them, so a muted key wouldn't be spoken when pressed. In JAWS12 Settings Center key labels tab there are 0 keys in the listview. So it appears one can't mute any key there. An egregious oversight. (Windows XP Home.) Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 volume control
Here's what I do to get to the volume CTRL in windows 7. 1. click on computer 2. click on local disc: (c) 3. Click on windows (press w until you hear windows) 4. Now press the letter s or s y s t e m until you get to system 32 and press enter 5. Now type SND until you get to sndvol.exe and press enter to look at the volume mixer. If you do not want to take that long route, once you are on the sndvol.exe option, you can bring up the context menu and send it to the desktop (or where ever you prefer), pin it to the taskbar, start menue etc for quicker access. I renamed the sndvol.exe to volume CTRL and just placed it on my desktop, so I wouldn't have to take the seenick route. I hope this is what you were looking for, if not, hopefully someone will bennefit from what I just wrote.:) Have a good day. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Rick Justice Sent: Monday, March 14, 2011 2:23 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 volume control Hi Fanus, In Windows 7, open the start menu, and type the word volume in the search box you should get a list of results which you can down arrow thru. I had a lot of problems with this myself. Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 volume control
Great tip Rick. With your method, people can get to places much quicker than mine and its good to be aquainted with the search box and how it works. That was just the first thought that popped into my head when I saw the email. I didn't even think about your method, which I like better than mine because it doesn't take that long haha. Take care. [JAWS-Users] Grubba database accessibility?
Hello list, Has anyone here had any experience with the Grubba database solution? www.grubba.net I am looking for something to keep track of customers and update notes such as phone calls, what was said and that can be accessed and updated by others and not just me. I've played around with Google Docs and it's not necessarily accessible as I may need. I'm using the latest JFW 12.0. I'm going to give it a spin, but thought I'd ask too and see if anyone's had a chance to put it through its paces and if they had any suggestions or additional observations. Thanks, For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ Send any questions regarding list management to: jaws-users-list-ow...@jaws-users.com
Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not reading the start menu search
Hello Carlos, The primary focus of the Windows start menu search box is to show results from the Program groups of the start menu and results from the control panel. Other results are also shown from library locations, folders, etc., but results from the program groups and control panel are shown first. If you notice when you use up or down arrow key with JAWS in the list of results, JAWS does not speak information on some of the lines. If you read those lines using the Read current line command, you will hear the group that the following items apply to and how many results were found in that group. The short list in the Windows start menu search list might say there are for example 10 results and yet only show 3 of them. Pressing enter key on the lines that show the name of the result group and the number of results in that group will list all the found items for that group only. The see more results link list results that are not in the control panel or all programs list. I have a document with several pages in it that contains notes on using Windows search. If you are interested in it, I am including a link below to the file. There are many search filters available to find specific items. For example, if my name was in your Outlook contacts list you could type Lastname:Lee firstname:Brian to quickly find it. My notes about using the search in the start menu search box starts on page six. You can list links using JAWS key f7 and find links to use for the different categories of information in the document. You can also list headings using JAWS key with function key 6 and choose a heading to move to or move heading to heading using quick navigation keys. JAWS key Z puts you into or takes you out of quick navigation keys mode. In that mode, use H to move forward or shift with H to move backward through the document heading by heading. Take care.
