Hi list. Using Windows Live Mail 2012 with JAWS 16, I want to reply
privately off-list to a sender who posted a message on another email list
I belong to. But when I highlight the message and select the Reply to
Sender option from the context menu, the “To” field is filled in with the
address of the email list rather than the address of the sender to whom I
wish to reply privately. Short of manually entering the sender’s address
into the “To” field, is there any other way to reply privately to a sender
in WLM that works? Thanks.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] getting stuck in submenus in Windows 10

Hello,

I am running Windows 10, the 2015 version, on a 64-bit Dell computer with
JAWS 17 and 18. The problem only happens in menus with submenus. When I am
arrowing through a menu that has submenus, I get stuck in the submenu. I
have a tough time getting out of the submenu and getting back to the main
menu. For example, If I go to the JAWS 18 icon on my desktop and press
enter, because the tandem item has a submenu it automatically opens and I
see "allow access to my computer ." and if I arrow down I see "get access to
a computer." If I arrow down again, I go back to "allow access to my
computer ." I have tried both left arrow and backspace to get out of
submenus, but they don't work. Escape just takes me out of the menu system
altogether. (I feel like that 1969 song "You got me going in circles" by
Friends of Distinction. Yikes! My age is showing.)

I have looked on the Freedom Scientific site and tried googling for an
answer, but this is a weird situation and difficult to describe for google.
Any ideas? Do I have something set incorrectly in Windows 10? Do keyboards
have drivers? I have looked on the Dell site for drivers with no luck. (My
search on Dell site just shows me a ton of keyboards I could buy.)

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Have fun!

Hi John,

In my opinion, you are better off just using the security software that is
built-in to Windows 10. It is the equivalent of Microsoft Security
Essentials. This is the only security software, along with Malwarebytes,
that I have used on my and my clients computers for the past seven
years--with no problems. On my computers, I still use the old, accessible
version of Malwarebytes. I am even beginning to question the necessity for
Malwarebytes--and not even from the standpoint that they just can't seem to
get accessibility right. Of course, your browsing and email habits can make
a big difference in the security of your computer.

Best,
John

Hi Adrian,

Below are some notes I made back when I was running Chrome regularly.
Read

all the way through.

From: Ann Byrne via Jfw Would it help to turn off the quick keys with
insert-z? I needed to
get to a dialog today and that was the trick. Also someone else
suggested shift-enter instead of just enter.
good luck!

From: Mike B
Hi Ann,
Thank you very much, pressing, Insert / Jaws key + Z, is the trick but,
this

keystroke toggles the virtual cursor mode On / off. Press enter on the
Settings option then press, Insert + Z, to turn the virtual cursor off &
you
can tab through the Settings options. Or you can press the Alt key to
open

the list, arrow up to Settings, press, Insert + Z, to turn the virtual
cursor off, then press enter on Settings & you can tab through the
options.

Shift + Enter does not work.
Take care.
Mike

From: Mike B
Hi All,

Running Widows 7 Pro, Chrome, & Jaws 15 thru 17 latest. When in Chrome if
you press the, Alt key, it opens a vertical view of the menues. Well, in
J17 when I would arrow down to the, Settings Option & press enter to open,
&

here is where my problems would begin in J17. In J15 & 16 after pressing
enter on the Settings Option I can tab through all the various options
but,

with J17 I had to turn the virtual cursor off, Insert + Z, before I could
navigate through this menu. After some playing around in Jaws 17's Quick
Settings, Insert + V, I found that having these 2 settings set the way
they're shown below allowed me to navigate the Settings Menu with J17
using

the tab key just like with J15 & J16, without having to turn the virtual
cursor off. This might not work for everyone but, it worked for me & it's
something y'all can try if you experience the same thing I encountered.
Here are the 2 settings as they should be:

Heading and Frame Options

Frame show start & end, should be checked.

In line frames show, should be on.

Note: For Chrome settings purposes, you want in-line frames on. for
website

navigation purposes, to skip past ads, you want in-line frames off. The
point remains that, ideally, when we consider a suggestion to change a
setting to solve one problem, we should be aware of the consequences of
the

change.

Hope this helps others than myself.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] to LeDon, finding Chrome

LeDon, I feel your pain. I have used IE all the time I have used a computer
as well, but now that here and there I'm finding websites that don't support
it, I am forced to put more than one browser in my repertoire.

If you use Google as a search engine, at the bottom of the page there is a
link that says "about." If you open that you get the Google page and it has
a link for products. Open that and then

You can find the link to download Chrome. Hopefully you have at least Win
7, or else it won't download. But I downloaded it myself and I'm no tech
genius.it seemed straightforward to me.

As far as learning keystrokes, a link someone sent that I went to actually
didn't help me much. It seemed to be talking to sighted computer users, as I
couldn't find the icon it said to find. But there has to be something out
there for us. I hope this helps a bit. Judy & Libby

[JAWS-Users] problem with online purchase

2017-05-16 Thread Susan Wojtecki

susan

Good morning everyone,
I am having difficulty entering payment information at the National
Braille Press site at www.nbp.org and would appreciate any assistance.
Using latest version of JAWS and IE with Windows 10, the payment
screen shows what appears to be a graphic with the text of the card
type. I am unable to check the correct graphic by any of the usual
ways--pressing enter or the spacebar or shift-F10. Can anyone
replicate this and/or suggest what to try? have used this site
successfully many times with JAWS 12 and IE 9 so do not think the
problem is with the page itself or even JAWS necessarily. I expect
this is a simple fix too, smile, but caffeine hasn't really kicked in
either. Tia.

Have fun!

close the message
activate the application key
arro up to add sender to contacts and enter
tab to the email address and copy it to the clipboard
close without saving
then re open the message and use the reply
Tab back to the to field and replace the address with what is in the

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws questions

2017-05-16 Thread Mike B.
Hi Mike,

1st, as far as pitch, rate, & volume go you can change the speech rate, on
the fly, but that's all. Here's the keystrokes for that:
Control, alt, + page up or down for temporary changes.

Control, alt, windows key, + page up or down for permanent changes.

To change voice rate temporarily while JAWS is in "say all," adjust speed
with pageup or pagedown alone.

Volume will have to be adjusted through the system tray, or Control Panel /
Sounds.

To switch soundcards, open the Jaws context menu, open Utilities, & navigate
to , Sounccards, press enter, arrow to the preferred soundcard, & press
enter. If you Jaws from the system Tray here's the keystrokes:
Jaws key + J, press the letter, U, & press the letter, O.

Take care.
