[JAWS-Users] firefox, RSS feeds and saving files
Hi all, I have never had this problem with Window-Eyes, but I have this problem with Jaws, and it baffles me. I'm running the latest Jaws, the latest firefox, and can duplicate this 100 percent of the time. Steps follow: 1. Go to http://feeds.twit.tv/sn 2. Go to the Security Now 614's latest entry. Do this by hitting h for heading until you get there. 3. Underneath the show notes, you'll find a link to the mp3. 4. Hit shift+f10 or context key and select save link as. 5. You should get something similar to saving an mp3 file, but I get saving an HTML file, subscribing to the RSS feed through something, but not the mp3 file. The only way i was able to get the mp3 file was to tab to it then it wold let me get the file. Window-Eyes never behaved this way, and I'm wondering if I have found a bug with Jaws that needs reporting? Thanks, gang. -- Jared Rimer This address is on mailing lists, please do not use it as a personal coorespondence. Re: [JAWS-Users] Making Word 2010 default line saving to single
Hi, Ed. In your first set of steps, you don't mention pressing Okay. Did you? Your second set of steps, based on my experience, shouldn't be necessary and may be creating a problem. Going back to your first set of steps, when you select single space, don't press enter. Just leave it selected, then tab to Okay and press spacebar/enter. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mr. Ed Sent: Wednesday, May 31, 2017 7:09 PM To: JAWS-Users-List 2 Subject: [JAWS-Users] Making Word 2010 default line spaving to single Hi Everyone. I press the application key in Word 2010 and press P to go to paragraph. Then I change the space to single. But it still does not type in single line spacing. Then I went back into the paragraph dialog box and I then put a 1 in the At box and check the box that said not to space after a paragraph. Then press ok. Then it typed in single line. But then I opened a new document and it was back to double line spacing. I went back into the pargraph dialog box and made all the same changes again and press save as default button. But it did not save it. Anyone have any ideas on what I am doing wrong to get word to stay defaulted to single line spacing? Re: [JAWS-Users] opening up emails
This happens to me all the time in Outlook 2016, very irritating, Jaws will start to read the message, then announce the number of links in the middle of the message, and either continue reading or start from the beginning. This has to be the most annoying, irritating disruptive behavior I have ever experienced with Jaws and email. Incidentally, it does not happen in windows 10 mail, only in Outlook 2016. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of TheHangMan Sent: Wednesday, May 31, 2017 6:28 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] opening up emails Hi, It happens here too, because you are anticipating the start of the mail. When i went to send the original message intending to keep things in tact, the outbound picked it up as harmful which means it worked, but MSE never picked it up nor what I've written below. A bit concerning. I did this, and found that microsoft security essentials leaves it. I got concerned when I knowingly saved a file as I wanted to see if it would pick up the file. I left it for awhile and saved it on one of my drives. I submitted it using I believe it was av test or a site that I found that allowed me to see what antivirus picked this particular file I had up. MSE never picked it up. Now that I'm a Jaws user, what antivirus besides MSE would work with Jaws? I've got Windows 7, 64 bit. I don't think MSE is doing the trick anymore if a file can go undetected for that long, and it never got flagged for review. It was a zip, with an executable in it, which i knew was dangerous, but I save them at times to see if the thing is working and picks them up. -- Jared Rimer This address is on mailing lists, please do not use it as a personal coorespondence. [JAWS-Users] Making Word 2010 default line spaving to single
Hi Everyone. Part of the page says: The easiest way to ensure that your antivirus software is working is to use the EICAR test file. The EICAR test file is a virus simulator developed by the European Institute for Computer Antivirus Research and Computer Antivirus Research Organization. To create an EICAR test file, copy and paste the following line into a blank file using a text editor such as Notepad:" The URL to the full post is at: https://webtecsrilanka.com/2017/02/18/how-to-tell-if-your-antivirus-is-working/?utm_source=dlvr.it_medium=twitter for your review. Hi Jim, This is all very informative and very helpful. Thanks for writing this all up. Smiles. Creators update, The application key, your best friend This is a text tutorial, provided freely by The W-10 and Jaws group, all may freely share this text tutorial. Author: Jim Flusche This text file had now been Updated to the Creators update, new material had been added. The applications key is your best friend in using W-10 with Jaws. As you have read my complete guide, we use the applications key and its context menu to do many things in W-10. For example: *After pressing Windows key+T, takes you to the taskbar and its pinned items. Use your right arrow to move to each pinned item on the Taskbar. *If you wish to remove a pinned item from the Taskbar. Highlight the item, Press the applications key, up arrow to unpin from Taskbar, press enter. *If you wish to start over with the list of pinned items on the Taskbar. Highlight them one by one, press the applications key, arrow up to unpin from the Taskbar, press enter. *Now use the All apps list box, in the start button area, pin all items back to the Taskbar in the order you wish to have them. How do I do this? *Press the windows key or press enter on the start button, either press up or Down arrow or tab two times to, All Apps list box. Use first letter navigation to jump through your list of all the apps and all the programs on your computer. *Tip, you must have an app or program installed starting with a certain letter to use first letter navigation in the All Apps list box. When you find a app or find a program you wish to pin to the Taskbar. Highlight it, Press the applications key, down arrow to, more submenu, right arrow to, pin to the Taskbar, press enter. Do this for all the items you wish to pin to the Taskbar. I use the Taskbar pinned items a lot. For example: After you have pinned your items to the Taskbar, you now have shortcuts for all the pinned items on your Taskbar. Just press the windows key with the number of the pinned item on the Taskbar to open that App or program. For example, on my computer: Pressing Windows key+1, opens Internet Explorer. Pressing Windows key+2, opens Word 2016. Pressing Windows key+3, opens Notepad. Pressing Windows key+4, opens Outlook 2016. Pressing Windows key+5, opens Control Panel. Pressing Windows key+6, opens Windows defender security center. Pressing Windows key+7, opens Jaws 17. Pressing Windows key+8, opens Jaws 18. Pressing Windows key+9, opens iTunes. These are very handy shortcuts for opening your pinned apps or programs that you have pinned to the Taskbar. *Using Quick access, pinned items. *Now you can also use the Windows key+E, to bring up a list of items you have pinned to quick access. Remember in W-10, we now have what is called, File explorer, desktop App. You can set file explorer to open in Quick access or open in This PC. I show you in the complete guide and in the audio lessons, why I use the file explorer to open in quick access. How do I pin items to quick access? The easiest way to do them at one time is to do the following. Press enter on your This PC icon on the desktop. Arrow down and highlight your C: drive. Press Shift+Tab, you are in a tree view of all the stuff on your computer. Use the right arrow to open any closed folder, use the left arrow to close any open folder. *Press the applications key on any folder, file, drive, or location you wish to pin to quick access. Arrow down to, pin to quick access, press enter. Now where ever you are on your computer, when you press Windows key+E, you will open a list of pinned items that you have pinned to quick access. *For example on my computer, after pressing windows key+E, I hear the following. Frequent folders expanded, as I press the Down arrow, I hear. Desktop Downloads Documents OneDrive This PC Seagate Expansion Drive (E:) Windows (C:) My Users folder. *First letter navigation works in the quick access, list of pinned shortcuts. You can also pin many things to your desktop. *How do I pin programs to the desktop? Press the Windows key, press up or down arrow, to go directly to the All Apps list box in the start button area. *Remember first letter navigation works in the All Apps list box. Highlight the program you wish to make a desktop shortcut icon for and do the following. Press the applications key. Arrow down to, more sub menu, press the right arrow key. Re: [JAWS-Users] Word 2013 Recently Opened Documents
Hello Jerry, In Word 2013 in the backstage area where the recent documents are listed you can remove one recently used document or all that haven't been pinned to the list. From the Recent Documents tab use the tab key to move to one of the documents that are listed. Use the application key and in the contextual menu is an option to clear unpinned documents. This will remove all documents from the recent list except those you have pinned there. There is also an option to remove a single file from the list in the same contextual menu. Take care. [JAWS-Users] JAWS Voice Echo on Windows 10
Hi guys, I have an annoying problem after installing JAWS 18 on a fresh copy of Windows 10... It's difficult to describe but it's almost like JAWS has developed a slight echo when speaking - I've ran a repair on JAWS and this hasn't made any difference... I have also checked the voice settings for JAWS and everything looks ok, although I do admit I might be missing something... Finally, I don't think it's an issue with the sound card in my laptop as this "echo" doesn't affect any other sounds... Just wondering if anyone else has come across this issue, or if anyone could suggest some settings I could look at. Thanks, D For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

I tried using the JAWS cursor, but it did not help the situation. I am using Windows 10 on a dell laptop. Many thanks. Hello; the information below is not accurate; Andy, Port 465 is good for the incoming, port 587 or 9903 is the out going SMTP. The incoming server port should be, 995 if the account is a pop account, 993 if the account is a imap account.
