Re: [JAWS-Users] cursors
Hello there! I think you're unable to make difference between virtual pc cursor and JAWS cursor so not getting what to use. Okay, just try to figure out my words and you'll find it out very easy. When you are working in any word document or just simply sitting on your desktop, it is PC cursor with you to help you to navigate around the window. but, when you are having some time to enjoy your facebook account or gmail or may be twitter or anything else, you are surfing the web. Here to perform all these tasks, Virtual PC cursor is activated. now imagine the situation where you are unable to read something with the virtual pc cursor and that is still visible on the screen such as url of the page, you can read such information by using JAWS cursor. in fact, you can use JAWS cursor to read that information without disturbing the focus of the virtual pc cursor. It means, whatever is not in the reach of virtual PC cursor can be located by the help of JAWS cursor. JAWS cursor is basically used to grab some text which can not be located by any other cursor. After finding any clickable element by JAWS cursor, we can also click it using left mouse button. *** I am not so much expert right now still I tried to explain in my words. Hope it helps you to make your decision. Thanks and regards: Shyam On 12/22/13, Mike B. mb69ma...@charter.net wrote: Hi Kevin, All 4 of the cursors are explained below: About JAWS Cursors Navigating through Windows with JAWS is accomplished with cursors. These cursors determine the focus of JAWS speech and are often directly linked with Windows cursors. The PC Cursor - Follows Keystrokes This cursor is linked to the keyboard functions of Windows and applications. This is the cursor that is used when typing information, moving through options in dialog boxes, and selecting options or icons. As you type information, the PC Cursor follows along with each key you press. If you are making a selection in a menu or dialog box, the PC Cursor highlights the currently selected object. The PC Cursor is activated by default when JAWS starts. If you are using a different cursor, pressing NUM PAD PLUS returns you to the PC Cursor. The JAWS Cursor - Follows Mouse Pointer The JAWS Cursor is linked to mouse pointer functions in Windows and other applications. It is used to read information the PC Cursor cannot read, such as toolbar information. The mouse follows along with the JAWS Cursor when it is moved, and you therefore have access to information in an application window that is beyond the scope of the PC Cursor. To activate the JAWS Cursor, press NUM PAD MINUS. The Virtual PC Cursor - HTML Environment The virtual PC Cursor mimics the functions of the PC Cursor, but is activated by default when entering an HTML document. The virtual PC Cursor speaks the number of frames in a document, and the number of links in the frame. You can switch between frames, and JAWS reads graphics labeled by alt tags in the HTML code. Invisible Cursor The JAWS cursor is basically the mouse cursor that is visible on screen. The invisible cursor can be moved around just like the JAWS cursor to view information. It works like the mouse cursor but can not be seen on screen or effect objects. Therefore you can not use the NumPad / (left mouse click) or NumPad * (right mouse click) on an object. It is useful to read information without disturbing the mouse cursor. It is also useful to determine colors or whatever might change when the mouse is over an object. It will not cause ToolTips to pop up. Take care. yes, I also have noticed some unwanted changes in JAWS 14. Whenever I try to copy selected text that doesn't copied instead unwanted text is copied. It doesn't happens with all websites. September 2011 - 6:33 by v.laurie Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is Gizmo's Freeware Product of the Year for 2010. Recently, a new version came out and it has a setting that can be very useful to owners of older, slower PCs or netbooks. Even when an efficient antivirus program does a scan, it can use enough system resources to cause a noticeable slowdown of older machines. Version 2 of MSE has a setting that can cut down the impact that a scan has on the system. The amount of CPU time allocated to the scan can be limited. While it won't make much difference in a new quad-core machine, it can keep an old single-core system or a netbook from bogging down and allow you to continue to work during a scan. There is a tradeoff-using less CPU time means taking longer to finish a scan. To configure the settings, open MSE and select the Settings tab. As the figure below shows, you can adjust the amount of CPU time devoted to a scan in a drop-down menu. The default setting seems to be 50%. If limiting the CPU is not important in your particular system, remove the check by Limit CPU usage during scan. That will speed up your scans. By experimenting with this CPU setting, you should be able to find one that is best for your particular system. Re: [JAWS-Users] making a CD
Yes of course. I am running windows 7 and JAWS12. the nero is Nero-7.8.5.0_eng.exe the Icon name which has appeared on desktop is named as nero start smart. after opening it, when I check the version with the command JAWS key+CTRL+V then it says nero smart version 3831. one more thing I want to discuss about this program and its accessibility. when I run nero and press tab several times then it says help. But before the help option comes, there is one more tab which is not announced by JAWS. I don't know why does it happen. by the way, when I tried to enquire about this tab from one of my sighted friends then he said that this is the option where you have to select one of the given 3 options.--CD, DVD and CD/DVD. But JAWS doesn't guide on this tab. with thanks. Shyam On 7/4/12, Norman King norbk...@gmail.com wrote: Hi. One thing you could try is run windows update and check for updates manually. Hi All, I ran across this note from a fellow list member thought it should be shared. At the bottom of these instructions are more notes about clipboard security with IE7 IE8. From: davidwhitehead1...@cogeco.ca Clipboard Security Clipboard Security Test - Internet Explorer If you are using Internet Explorer as your default browser, there is a good chance that despite being up to date with all your hot fixes, you are vulnerable to a clipboard exploit where a web site can grab whateverdata was last copied to your clipboard. This can be achieved by simply visiting the page. As soon as you access the page, theexploiter can grab whatever you last copied. This can be very dangerous if the last thing you copied before visiting the site was sensitive information such as credit card numbers, passwords, or other personal data. The clipboard in Windows is where anything you copy, whether it be data or images, is stored. You can access and view your clipboard content easily by entering clipbrd in the Run box and clicking Ok. The actual file is located in your System directory. Here is a test page that will let you know if you are protected from this exploit or not. To see if you are vulnerable: 1. Select (highlight) some text, Do a control C to copy the text to the clipboard. 2. Then click here: http://www.angelfire.com/on3/vxdoin2/clipbrdtest.html If you see the text you copied on the page, then you are vulnerable and should follow these instructions immediately. Note: Use a website / webpage other than your homepage when following the steps below. Hello there; these following steps; are for users of IE8, regardless of what operating system your using; try the following; 1, While on a website / webpage other than your homepage, internet explorer, 2, alt+t=tools, O=options, 3, now ctrl+tab=security tab, 4, tab and enter on, security custom... 5, now you need to navigate way down the page and look for; Allow Programmatic clipboard access disable should be off, touch spacebar, and Allow Programmatic clipboard access disable will be on. now tab to okay, and say yes to changing security. again tab to okay / close and press enter. On the main youtube site, one way to search for buttons is to press the letter b repeatedly. This will cycle you through the various options. Once you've found pause, just hit space bar. However, there is also an accessible interface for youtube the can be operated using keyboard shortcuts. It's fairly stripped down compared to the main site, but I've found it works well and it may be right up someone's alley. The url is: tube.majestyc.net Unlike the main Youtube site, your video won't begin playing automatically once you've searched for and selected it. To start it, you can either hunt for the very clearly labelled play button or simply hit alt-z. This same command will pause the video once it's playing. Alt-x will back up 15 seconds, alt-c will move forward the same amount of time. Hope this helps, Michelle -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Norman King Sent: March 17, 2012 6:53 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] pausing a video pausingRE: Pausing a video in YouTube hi.
