Re: [JAWS-Users] Updated JAWS 18

2017-09-28 Thread Reed
Hello,

I spent quite a while on the phone with a member of the JAWS Tech Support
escalation team this morning. He indicated that a number of users have
reported this issue. He could not replicate the problem on his systems and
wanted to see exactly what is going on on mine. He recognized the problem
and was completely baffled as to what could be causing it.

I guess the message here is that JAWS Tech Support is aware of the issue and
are trying to determine the cause. So, stay tuned.

Hi all -

Using outlook 2016, JAWS 18.4321, and the latest public Windows 10 build, I
notice that names in the address fields are not spoken. Haven't explored if
I need to change a setting, but the names have been spoken by JAWS in these
fields before the current version of Jaws. Perhaps being sure that outlook
2016 is updated to the latest version might help, which I haven't checked.
Also, I am going to check this problem out on another windows 10 machine I
have which is on the windows insider program; might make a difference with
the absolutely latest version of Windows but not sure.

This is not an issue with Outlook. The problem did not exist until the most
recent Beta update of JAWS. Using Magnifier and my little bit of remaining
vision, I can see that the Outlook feature is still working. Type in a few
letters and the list appears. However, using the down arrow key makes the
list vanish.

This JAWS is a Beta version put out to see where the problems may appear.
Often fixing one issue creates another problem.
Many companies require employees to use specific programs, often Microsoft
products. Tech support is very resistant to having to support alternatives.

Has anyone on the list experienced issues when running the spell checker in
Outlook 2016 365? Since the newest JAWS Beta, the checker consistently
crashes Outlook, but not when run as part of the send operation.

Thunderbird is a much more pleasant experience with JAWS than mail for
Windows 10.

When I am in the TO: field, I type the first letter of a name. With
previous versions of JAWS, the first name beginning with that first
letter

in my autocomplete list would be spoken.  If I was to hit the down-arrow
key, the next name in the list would be spoken.  I could down-arrow
through
the list until I found the name I wanted.  When I hit the tab key,
the name

would be inserted in to the TO: field and I could begin typing the next
to-name and repeat the process for this second name.  None of this is
working with the new release of JAWS.  After I have typed that first
letter

and hit the down-arrow key, I hear a beep; indicating that I can't
down-arrow through the list.  So, it isn't that JAWS just isn't
announcing

it.

Hi Rick,
Are you using the Jaws Beta that you are having this issues with?
The Jaws beta is called Jaws 2018. Or did this just happen since you
downloaded the last Jaws update with is Jaws 18.0.4321?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Updated JAWS 18

2017-09-28 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Group,
I am using Latest W10 and Outlook 2010 on two computers. I updated my Jaws
to the latest update with is Jaws 18.0.4321. When I type in the to field the
first letter a number of names comes up and I can arrow down the list and
Jaws announces all of them. This works fine on both my computers. So I am
guessing this must be an Outlook 2016 issue with Jaws not announcing the
names in the To field. Can anyone confirm if the Jaws beta version which is
Jaws 2018 is working correctly with Outlook 2010 or 2016 in the To field in
a new email. This would be nice to know.
Mr. Ed

I don’t' get that beep and am able to down-arrow. For me at least, Jaws
doesn’t announce the names of contacts, but they are being cycled through.
I
email a lot of the same people for my business and have learned the
pattern
of how they come up when typing out their names. The letter M and then
arrow
down for Maria X, Y or Z for example. This still occurs. Again though,
Jaws

just isn't announcing the changes.
Either way though, it is annoying and frustrating as I often now have to
use
the to or CC or BCC buttons to go into my address book when I want to
insert

multiple emails or if there is a long list of names with the same starting
sequence of letters.

When I am in the TO: field, I type the first letter of a name. With
previous versions of JAWS, the first name beginning with that first letter
in my autocomplete list would be spoken. If I was to hit the down-arrow
key, the next name in the list would be spoken. I could down-arrow through
the list until I found the name I wanted. When I hit the tab key, the name
would be inserted in to the TO: field and I could begin typing the next
to-name and repeat the process for this second name. None of this is
working with the new release of JAWS. After I have typed that first letter
and hit the down-arrow key, I hear a beep; indicating that I can't
down-arrow through the list. So, it isn't that JAWS just isn't announcing
it.

Keep in mind, too, that at least in Outlook 2010, the contacts order changes
depending on how often or recently you've contacted this or that person. One
thought, in case it hasn't already been mentioned. If you think you know the
place of your addressee in the contacts list, press enter when you get to it.
Then tab into the next field and shift-tab back to the "To" or "cc" line. I
believe your educated guess will be confirmed or rejected.
I love the humor in your message, Reed. Time was when America had all the
advantages over Canada when it came to visually impaired people. I know because
I spent some time at McGill. Canada has come a long way since then.

lot of the same people for my business and have learned the pattern of how they

Either way though, it is annoying and frustrating as I often now have to use
