Re: [JAWS-Users] starting jaws manually
Press Insert+J, arrow up to Help, and press Enter. Then arrow up to Startup Wizard and press enter. You will find options for starting JAWS. You can choose Never to have JAWS not start automatically. Control+Alt+J is a good hot key, but you can use any hot key you like. Keep in mind that you must set the hot key for the JAWS icon by using Windows properties. Also, if you update your JAWS version or uninstall and reinstall for any reason, you must set up the hot key again for the new icon. -Original Message- From: mack Sent: Sunday, July 02, 2017 8:13 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] starting jaws manually i'm finally going to install jaws before f s o takes away my window eyes migration deal. however, i don't want jaws to load at startup, i just want to use it manually. when i first install jaws, i will set windows to not load at the log in screen or at windows startup, because i know jaws will load automatically, where do i go to stop jaws from loading at startup, is ctrl alt j a good hot key to use to start jaws manually? -- from Mack For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] starting jaws manually
Hi Our experiences are the same. When you install JAWS there is no hot key for that version. So you have to edit the JAWS shortcut to add a hot key. What I meant was that you cannot just edit the shortcut for the version of JAWS you installed using a combination of keys that is assigned to another shortcut. Although I haven't made that mistake for a long time, it used to be that using the same key combination would mean that neither shortcut would work. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Adrian Spratt Sent: Monday, July 03, 2017 02:19 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] starting jaws manually Mike, for the record, this is not my experience. Re: [JAWS-Users] starting jaws manually
Morning, I use JAWS 18, Jaws Fusion and NVDA. I have created desktop shortcuts for each of these and given them names proceeded by a number, for example 2 JAWS and 3 Fusion. This makes their startup key easy to find, press 2 JAWS and enter and I am up and running. Happy to post the process if anyone is interested. As your WindowEyes is still an option, it could be included as a shortcut as well. Just remember that you can't run two screen readers at the same time. That creates the Tower of Babble effect! All you have to do is to not have Jaws start at the logon screen, and set it to have Jaws Never start for user. I also use control-alt J for the current version. You can also navigate to the desktop, quickly type in the letters j a w, and be right at the Jaws icon, unless you have other icons starting with those letters. Re: [JAWS-Users] starting jaws manually
Two parts to your question. If I'm not mistaken, the JAWS installation process gives you the option of loading or not loading JAWS at startup. If it doesn't, maybe you could post again. The checkbox is in the JAWS options dialog, but how you get there depends on whether JAWS is or isn't in your system tray. Yes, control-alt-j is a good hotkey to open JAWS manually. However, you'll need to set it yourself. Hi Mac, After you install Jaws you will get a multi page dialog called, Start-up Wizard, & in this Wizard you can set Jaws, NOT, to start with Windows. The, Control, Alt, + J, keystroke is the default hotkey / shortcut for starting Jaws, unless its changed, & I haven't heard of the change. When installing Jaws a shortcut icon will be placed on the desktop, so pressing enter on this icon will start Jaws as well. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sent from my iBarstool.
