There are often special buttons on laptops to increase or decrease the volume. These are usually located above the keyboard if you have them. Otherwise there are some programmes you can load for the purpose or you do so with controls in your system tray. - Original Message - From: Deana dbrow...@comcast.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, December 19, 2010 12:35 AM Subject: [JAWS-Users] volume hotkeys? The only thing I have in my system tray relating to that is the usual volume icon, which gives me the choices of either opening audio properties and opening volume control. Re: [JAWS-Users] volume hotkeys?
I doubt it, I believe that programme only searches for software hot keys, the sort that creating shortcuts for launching programmes creates. If there are built-in shortcut keys they will be in the computer manuals or some of the help screens. If you have someone who can see they may find some combinations of keys denoted by pictures of speakers with arrows up and down. There are probably others with antenna icons on them for turning on the WiFi radio and things like that, maybe spy glass icons for screen magnification, all kinds of stuff. I used to have a programme which allowed one to set up keys for volume up and down over 10 years ago, I expect it is still out there somewhere but I'd bet there is something on your computer to allow this. - Original Message - From: Deana dbrow...@comcast.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, December 19, 2010 10:28 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] volume hotkeys? Re: [JAWS-Users] volume hotkeys?
Deana, there may be a combination for muting the sound too. If Jaws suddenly quits along with Windows sounds and other things you have found it. Maybe FN-12 or FN-9. Usually it is a toggle but it might also return with Volume Up. Don't know if the mute stays in effect if you turn off and back on again. Just be aware it may be an option on your computer. Re: [JAWS-Users] volume hotkeys?
Many laptops, particularly some of the newer ones with larger screens, have separate volume buttons. On my HP, they are on a small metal strip above the function keys. They are not denoted tactually, so I had to up a braille label above the mute, up and down volume controls, and the area where you touch to activate the wireless card. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. Steve Lansing, MI For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
