[kwin] [Bug 409490] Recording desktop video isn't possible with compositing disabled

2019-07-14 Thread Martin Flöser
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409490

This is a problem of the recorder you use. If compositing is disabled KWin is
not involved at all.

Please be aware that recording adds a huge lag no matter whether compositing is
enabled or not. X11 is not designed for such use cases and performs extremely
bad for screen recording. I recommend to use Wayland instead.

Also I don't understand what is problem to remember window position in cfg file

application which needs to remember its window position does so. The you do
with size, so explain me why Windows window manager can be messed with position
restoring?

2019-07-14 Thread Michal Mutl
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409675

It is critical, because if i change windows size and then position window to be
centered with new size, after new Kate start its window is positioned with new
size half-outside of the screen.
Startup window size is too small so that resizing is needed to make working
reasonable. But user must reposition window all the time Kate is started. Very
annoying and non user friendly.

That's clearly not possible since then the checkbox would have no effect,
eliminating its reason for existence. :)

The checkbox in question is checked by default, so if you found that it wasn't
checked for you, then one of the following happened:
1. Ubuntu alters the default to uncheck this checkbox by default
2. You or someone else unchecked it by mistake
3. Though you reinstalled the OS, you migrated settings from a previous
install, and among them was this checkbox being unchecked

If you create a new account and it's unchecked for that user, then #1 is the
culprit, and I would encourage you to take it up with the Ubuntu people and ask
them to stop overriding the upstream default for this. Otherwise, it was #2 or
#3 :)

I don't disagree. However, the devil's in the details:

1. seems reasonable and doable.

2. would cause people to report it as a bug ("Why does the signature message
box just end in the middle of nowhere?"

3. is not a great UX since the message box could easily disappear before you've
finished reading it, or after you've read it and while you're moving your
cursor towards the button do do something with it. That would be really
infuriating.

4. would cause 99% of people to miss it.

Same. Without shadows, tiled windows that happen to have the same edge colors
will visually blend into one another, which looks bad (turn off compositing and
then tile some windows and you'll see what I mean). Also, without shadows, the
only way to tell which window is in the foreground would be by looking at
titlebar colors. When using a color scheme in which the titlebar doesn't change
color on gain or loss of focus (e.g. the Breeze Dark or Breeze Light color
schemes), then it's impossible. For those reasons, I think it has to stay as it
is.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=403506

Ah, then I think these bugs only become fully fixed with Plasma 5.17 then,
because that's when the local icon that was masking the breeze icons version
was removed from the disk quota applet itself.

Select-All command can make it editable

I have found another workaround and want to share it.
Although the default state of speed/duration edit fields are readonly, once you
have commanded "select all" then they get editable, what a relief!
The productivity has been recovered! :-)

same on newer mageia 7: KDE Plasma version 5.15.4
KDE Frameworks 5.57.0
Qt 5.12.2

Also in Manjaro current/up-to-date 18.0.4 I think it is

Alt-space go to Device actions
choose "Open with File Manager" the one with all the Storage stuff
change kde-open5 "%f"
to whatever : myscript.sh "%f"

plug in usb stick
missing option to "open with file manager"

go edit again and change back to kde-open5 "%f"
it is still missing.

I am not taking anything out. this is a minor change.
I am guessing it is not writing out some config file properly.

also, if /usr/share/solid/actions/ is where it writes files,
there are now 17 files in there and they are like gwenview, dragonplayer,
digikam, vlc, but nothing about file-manager or dolphin...

[ark] [Bug 378904] Ark should use charset auto-detection for filenames

Zeno Endemann changed:

I've recently run into this problem as well. So I've looked at the Ark sources,
but I don't see a good way to add this feature, both from the coding (no other
archive plugin needs special open-time options, so there is understandably no
infrastructure) as well as the UI standpoint (there is no dialog when opening
an archive via the main navigation, and adding one would be weird). I would
very much understand if an intrusive code change would not be acceptable just
for this problem.

Thus I would propose the following solution: Use auto detection of the encoding
(via KEncodingProber) per default (which should hopefully work for most people,
it worked at least on my zip file with Japanese encoding), but also have an
override via command line switch or environment variable that would force to
use an encoding for all opened zip files for the running Ark process. While not
ideal that would be good enough for me, and only require minimal changes and no
changes to the UI.

There is one risk though, in that using encoding auto detection could
potentially introduce regressions for other users. Note though that some kind
of encoding auto detection is already in use (see ZIP_FL_ENC_GUESS flag here:
https://libzip.org/documentation/zip_name_locate.html), but that is not working
sufficiently apparently.

Anyway, if my suggested approach is acceptable, I could prepare a patch.

[klipper] [Bug 409803] New: "Enable clipboard actions" missing from context menu

2019-07-14 Thread Nicolas Girard
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409803

Bug ID: 409803
Summary: "Enable clipboard actions" missing from context menu
   Product: klipper
   Version: 5.16.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: girard.nico...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

On Kubuntu 19.04, using plasma-workspace 5.16.3-0ubuntu1~ubuntu19.04~ppa1
package from http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu,
clipboard actions are disable by default, which is not a problem in itself.

But for a user to be able to enable them, he needs to go through the following
convoluted path:

1. Open Klipper's configuration dialog
2. Click the "Shortcuts" tab
3. Figure out which shortcut is associated to the "Enable clipboard action"
action (on my system: Ctrl-Alt-x)
4. Close configuration dialog
5. Eventually type the shortcut (Ctrl-Alt-x) to enable clipboard actions

This usability issue could be solved by adding an "Enable clipboard action"
menu entry to the context menu showing up when right-clicking the Klipper icon.

[klipper] [Bug 409801] New: Disabling MIME-based actions has no effect

2019-07-14 Thread Nicolas Girard
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409801

Bug ID: 409801
Summary: Disabling MIME-based actions has no effect
   Product: klipper
   Version: 5.16.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: girard.nico...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

On Kubuntu 19.04, using plasma-workspace 5.16.3-0ubuntu1~ubuntu19.04~ppa1
package from http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu, unchecking
"Enable MIME-based actions" checkbox from configuration panel has no effect.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Klipper configuration panel
2. Click "Actions" tab
3. Uncheck "Enable MIME-based actions" checkbox
4. Close configuration window
5. Copy "https://www.google.com; to clipboard

OBSERVED RESULT

A popup titled "HTML document - Actions for: https://www.google.com; shows up.

EXPECTED RESULT

No popup should show up.

As a consequence of this defect, custom actions using tailor-cut regexes are
completely drowned by the numerous, unwanted MIME-based actions showing up.

For what is worth, the configuration option is properly stored:
grep EnableMagicMimeActions ~/.config/klipperrc
returns

EnableMagicMimeActions=false

SUMMARY

On Kubuntu 19.04, using user-manager 5.16.3-0ubuntu1~ubuntu19.04~ppa1 package
from http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu, trying to add a new

Git commit f19e1994b9460e448db99779b6e8b1e32dddf8b9 by Robby Stephenson.
Committed on 14/07/2019 at 19:31.
Pushed by rstephenson into branch 'pictureflow'.

Fix bug with multi-selection and entry editing

The selection list was using a QSet which did not retain ordering so the
multi-selection editing was broken. After fixing that, also fix the
triggering of selection between multiple views.
