KDE Connect on Android states that since I'm not connected to a Wi-Fi network,
I will not see available devices. I wish it would check for available devices
when wireless hotspot is turned on.
Turning on static IP is not an option on newer Android versions. I hope this
will get fixed because the workaround is very time consuming.

Git commit d676e8085e86b7f78a86877c038bd98bcc02bde4 by Jonathan Marten, on
behalf of Igor Kushnir.
Committed on 31/05/2022 at 05:26.
Pushed by marten into branch 'release/22.04'.

man: remove the section suffix from page names in listDir()

After recent major changes to man's listDir() (starting at
223de3ec8cde479fbe7f102c76b756cacbedbda5 and ending with
1d752c0497868fb07abd574f260f85c1ce62dfc9) man page names acquired
section suffixes in parentheses. For example, "aio.h" became
"aio.h (0p)". This page name format change broke URLs formed by joining
a section URL and a page name, e.g. "man:/(7)" + '/' + "bootup (7)".
The `xdg-open "man:/(7)/bootup (7)"` command opens this broken link in
KHelpCenter, which displays the "Manual Page Viewer Error" page.
The added section suffixes also break displaying man pages in KDevelop's
Man Pages documentation plugin.

Revert this breaking change by removing the section suffix rather than
reformatting it into parentheses.

I would also appreciate auto-saving my open tabs every so often. Or even a File
> Save (Ctrl+S)

What tends to happen with me is a few times a month my Nvidia GTX 980 Ti will
hard crash the system in some games or even shadertoy. I will not have done a
proper logout in days or weeks, so all the windows and tabs I've opened in
Dolphin will revert to that days or weeks ago state.

As a workaround, is there a way to kill the dolphin process so that it doesn't
interpret it as closing the window, but in a way to save the state until next
launch? I would be OK manually doing this every day or so.

I tried Hamburger menu > More > File > Quit. But this just closed one of my two
windows. Re-launching dolphin restored the one window that just closed, so
don't think I can manually "save" multiple windows like this.

I don't have time to reinstall at the moment. Tried Kubuntu 21.10 and 22.04
via live CD. Couldn't reproduce backlighthelper hanging with either. 21.10
was still slow and fought back. 22.04 was significantly more responsive. The
issue of it going back a step or too may still exist, but it's much less of a
problem due to the improved performance.
Thanks.

2022-05-30 Thread bugzilla_noreply

Bug ID: 454636
Summary: Dolphin seems to more readily copy/move files into
folders than before when dragging/dropping
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 22.04.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: ehrich.we...@gmail.com
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
When I'd previously try to copy/move files from one pane to another, if the
pane was filled with directories I used to be able to place the cursor over a
blank area and as long as there was no text(or that seemed to be the trigger) I
could release the mouse button and it'd drop into the root folder. Now it
doesn't seem very clear where you can drop a file to get it to drop into the
root folder. Dropping it into a blank area will now put it in the folder under
your cursor.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Drag/drop file into another pane
2. File will drop into folder that is on the line your cursor is over(if that
makes sense)

OBSERVED RESULT
File drops into folder even if you aren't over the folder name

EXPECTED RESULT
File drops into the root folder as long as you're not over the text of the
folder's name.

SUMMARY

NOTE: Would be great if there was an option to sort the order of the search
results. For instance, I would love to be able to sort via 1. applications, 2.
settings, 3. everything else.
Just had this issue where I wanted to change a keyboard shortcut, so, naturally
i open krunner and type shortcut. The first result was the shortcut settings,
great right? So i press enter, but by the time my finger hit the enter key,
krunner showed me some autohotkey program from discover, and that open instead
:/
Other issue i have is, inside the application search plugin, I wish it would
first show me the best matching NAME, then everything else. I wanted to open
the tor browser, so I open krunner and type tor. Simple! but for some reason it
was showing me Visual studio code first, but only after a while and only
sometimes it would put it there, same issue with above! Super annoying!
I will attach a video showing the second behavior, where i go frame by frame so
you can see better.

SUMMARY
Hey guys,
it would be nice if the energy applet showed the option to change the system's
behavior, e.g. a battery saving mode, underclocking CPU/GPU and reducing the
display brightness, a balanced mode (normal) and a performance mode with more
aggressive clocking.
This would give the users the opportunity to decide on their own, whether they
prefer battery life or performance, based on the current situation.

SUMMARY
Hey guys,
System76 developed a scheduler with better responsiveness for their system.
It would be great if KDE Plasma also supported the scheduler out of the box, to
deliver the best experience.

Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic

  Reporter: tobi.goerg...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Hey guys,
sometimes (1/3 times), when starting my system, I never see Plasma, but
instead, the plymouth splash screen is shown endlessly spinning. Nothing
happens then, I can prevent that by hitting an F key early, then Plasma is
starting reliably.
I haven't tested it with Plasma 5.24.5 yet, but it happened on 5.24.4.
It also just happened with wayland sessions so far.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. boot system into wayland session
2. observe plymouth

OBSERVED RESULT
plymouth is shown endlessly

EXPECTED RESULT
plymouth is terminated and Plasma is shown

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

[plasmashell] [Bug 454621] Plasmashell doesn't start on all monitors in a multi xscreen environment

2022-05-30 Thread Allistar
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454621

I suspect this may be related to how [ScreenConnectors] work. In my
.config/plasmashellrc file I have this:

[ScreenConnectors]
0=DVI-I-1
1=HDMI-1
2=DVI-D-0
3=HDMI-0

When running "xrandr --listmonitors" on xcreen0 it returns:
Monitors: 4
 0: +*DVI-I-1 1920/598x1080/336+1920+1080 DVI-I-1
 1: +HDMI-0 1680/473x1050/296+240+30 HDMI-0
 2: +DVI-D-0 1920/521x1080/293+1920+0 DVI-D-0
 3: +HDMI-1 1920/480x1080/270+0+1080 HDMI-1

When running it on xscreen1 it returns:
Monitors: 2
 0: +DVI-I-1 1680/433x1050/271+0+0 DVI-I-1
 1: +DVI-D-0 1920/509x1080/286+0+1050 DVI-D-0

Notice that both xscreen0 and xscreen1 have a monitor with the same name (e.g.
"DVI-I-1").
My current hypothesis is that this fact is confusing the startup of the plasma
shells.

SUMMARY
Hey there,

it would be nice if Plasma supported unlocking the screen/logging in using face
unlock, similar to how fingerprint unlock works.
This could either only work with infrared-cams or with "Normal" cams as well,
though they might not be as secure.
Executing root commands should also be possible using it.

Yes, that's true, though, for example my father is a mouse-centric desktop user
- he doesn't search for files to find the file manager, but he looks in the
menu and scrolls through it looking for an application with that name. That's
also a reason why more visible descriptions won't completely solve the issue -
my father still wouldn't find the application, he doesn't want to read all app
descriptions to find what he needs.

Names in desktop entries can be translated, so that wouldn't be a problem. :)

The analogy also works for me - the application menu shows "Files" as name of
the application (you ask for the coke) and Dolphin is opened (he brings you a
pepsi).

Yes, my family members think that showing the description under the title would
be better, though a more descriptive name would be optimal. :)
The apps could this be called the way they are called now, "just change the
desktop files" to show "Files" instead of Dolphin and maybe in the title bar.
This way, the apps can keep their creative names internally, while still having
descriptive names. :)

I'll leave a positive comment later!

[kwin] [Bug 454625] New: System hangs when using stylus after some time/when sharing the screen in firefox

2022-05-30 Thread Tobias G.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454625

Bug ID: 454625
Summary: System hangs when using stylus after some time/when
sharing the screen in firefox
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.24.4
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: tobi.goerg...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Hey there, I notice regularly when writing with my stylus pen (which is
exceptionally good supported btw) that my system freezes after some time. I use
RNote to take notes and at some point, just nothing happens anymore, the clock
in my dock doesn't update and I can't interact with my system in any way
anymore.
I unfortunately don't know which logs are required, but maybe I'm not the only
one with this issue.
I haven't tested it on X11 (writing there is garbage)

Alternatively, sharing the screen with firefox might also be the issue. I
enabled native wayland rendering and when I write, I usually share my screen
with my partner. This might also cause the crash, it didn't crash when using
chromium to share the screen when I remember correctly and this is way easier
to test :)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. start wayland session
2. write with stylus/share screen in firefox
3. wait for hang

OBSERVED RESULT
the whole system hangs, nothing responds to anything anymore, I need to restart

EXPECTED RESULT
The system keeps on responding

Hi,

I think I do have the same problem. Checked some older reports for possible
solutions like:
- change compositor scale method to smooth
- turn off morphing popups effect
- turn off present windows effect
- clean .cache directory
Tried that one by one but nothing helped so far.
KWin is crashing very often, sometimes two times in 5 minutes, mostly when
alt-tabbing between windows. Here is the report:

Fix byte array conversions

## Summary

Currently, KDE Connect for Android doesn't show the last 2 characters of the
verification key when pairing a device. This MR solves this issue.

This bug is caused by incomplete conversions from byte arrays to strings in
`SslHelper.java`:

```java
for (int i = 0; i < hash.length - 1; i++) {
formatter.format("%02x", hash[i]);
}
```
The ```i < hash.length -1``` converts the bytes in the array up to (inclusive)
the penultimate one. Removing the ```- 1``` allows for the last byte to be
converted (this is the missing 2 characters).

## Test Plan

### Before:
Selecting a desktop from the available devices, then clicking the `Request
Pairing` button causes a 62 character key to be displayed. It is 2 characters
short of the actual key, which can be seen on the desktop KDE Connect app.

### After:
Selecting the `Request Pairing` button now shows the whole verification key, as
intended.

[plasmashell] [Bug 454621] New: Plasmashell doesn't start on all monitors in a multi xscreen environment

2022-05-30 Thread Allistar
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454621

Bug ID: 454621
Summary: Plasmashell doesn't start on all monitors in a multi
xscreen environment
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Multi-screen support
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: allista...@gmail.com
CC: aleix...@kde.org, notm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
My Linux desktop has 6 monitors (connected to two Nvidia 750Ti GPUs). This is
across two xscreens. The first GPU is for xscreen0 which has 4 monitors, the
second GPU is for xscreen1 which has 2 monitors.

I run KDE and plasma on the first screen only, and the second xscreen I don't
run a desktop environment (instead I use compiz for display). This
configuration has worked well up to plasma version 5.23.5.

After upgrading to 5.24.4 (and also 5.24.5) Plasma is starting on xscreen1, and
two of the xscreen0 monitors don't have Plasma running (there's no context
menu, no wallpaper).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Run plasma in a environment with more than one xscreen.

OBSERVED RESULT
Plasma tries to run on both xscreens but only runs on as many monitors in total
as there are on the first xscreen.

EXPECTED RESULT
Either:
Plasma should only run on xscreen0 (as it used to)
OR
Plasma should run fully on both xscreens
OR
There should be configuration somewhere to control which xscreen it runs on.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Gentoo 5.15.41

>Disabling image previews does indeed fix the problem, thanks for the helpful

Happy to help. Then my time debugging this came up with actually useful results
:D

Regarding the root cause: my guess is that the raw thumbnailer provides a
mimetype that we search for by the parent mime types (which works). However,
the thumbnailer I asked you to disable has "image/*" as a mimetype. Meaning it
says that it can consume any image.

A solution would be to process the parent mimetypes first, before evaluating
the wildcards. Though it will need some though regarding potential sideeffects.

I'm running Gentoo and after upgrading plasma from 5.24.4 to 5.24.5 I'm facing
the same issue as before: I run two xscreens and I only want plasma to run on
xscreen0. It now tries to run on both xscreens and does so incorrectly:
xscreen0 has 4 displays and xscreen1 has 2. Now it only runs on two of the
screen0 displays and on the 2 screen1 displays.

How do I tell plasma to leave xscreen1 alone? I.e. I only want it to run on
xscreen0.

Hello Maik,

thanks for your suggestion.
Please be aware that digiKam is the only metadata system (I know) that tries to
follow EXIF-standrad to 100%.
I think it is not necessary to show a special flag for UTF8-strings.
But in case you really show such a flag, please do not use an "error
flag/icon". Use something neutral.

Know what? Scrap that. I tried messing around with another new installation. It
turns out, the GIMP English help documentation, for some reason, lists the

Naturally, inform users about any breaking change is a good thing.

The point is, somebody must do it.

I try to summarize some cool developments when I have time, unfortunately my
time is lacking.

If somebody steps up to provide nicer release texts, that would be great, one
can even just publish a blog post before/after each KDE Gear release to
summarize such stuff, but for that we need help.

If I have the choice between actually fixing stuff and improving the code or
writing blogs, I prefer the first.

Ah, I think I get what you're asking.
For me, many of my bluetooth headphones minimum volume is just too loud to
comfortably listen to in quiet environments (like a library or such). Having
absolute volume is convenient because that means you only have one set of
controls to deal with, but having it disabled allows for greater control over
exact volume levels.

That is fair that this should be handled by pipewire out of the box. But even

Please explain a bit more why this needs to be a preference in Plasma. This
sounds more like something that should be handled better by Pipewire out of the

I guess you are new to bug reporting. Your sound output not working may not
necessarily be a KDE issue. You should look into the audio hardware you have
and check if you have the correct drivers installed. This issue would be better
suited on the fedora forum.

Hi,
So I ended up finding the culprit behind this bug!

Before formatting my disk, I copied and pasted the content of my home folder
into another drive. Then, after I set up my new installation, I copied and
pasted that content wholesale back into the home folder, which is what screwed
up the launcher's ability to access my files.

Thanks you for taking the time to look into this.

I see here that we are already writing UTF8 to Exif when sync is enabled and we
are making entries in the XMP tab in the metadata editor. Is it also about, for
example, that only ASCII is allowed for input in the Exif tab?

I would make the following suggestion, we allow the input of UTF8 since we are
already writing UTF8 when syncronizing with XMP. We make it visible when there
is UTF8 in the fields but the standard actually requires ASCII, for example
with an error icon behind the input field.

[plasmashell] [Bug 353975] Black screen on second display (no wallpaper, can't get a context menu on right-click)

2022-05-30 Thread gene c
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=353975

I can regularly crash plasmashell by simply editing (1 of the 2) panel and
adding (or trying to add) applications from kmenu - not convinced this wasn't
commonplace in released version though.

I did this as after updating to 5.24.90 all customized panel settings were
lost. i gave up after multiple tries, added default panel and use quick
launcher now - which at least don't crash and vanish :)

This is beta and bugs are expected.

Yes you got correct.
But this needs to be reviewed, please be patient.
In any case I am on it, they are chances we can have it for Plasma 5.25 but
more assuredly 5.26.
