Krita 3.1 RC splash under Windows 10

Tested with Krita 3.1 RC (3.0.94), under Windows 10 X64 version 1607. When
starting up Krita (for the first time), the spalsh displayed without window
elements (title bar and border). I could not click the close button, ESC did
not work either. I can click the main window to create a new file, but the
splash elements blocked the canvas so it was unusable. I must set Hide splash
in the settings to make it work again. Ubuntu Gnome doesn't have this problem.

IPv6 is required for this connection

They have these tooltips respectively:

configuration succeeds

#: editor/settings/ui/ipv6.ui:30
When connecting to IPv4-capable networks, allows the connection to complete if

[releaseme] [Bug 465897] New: Potential problem in passing AppData translations to appstream-data

2023-02-17 Thread Tyson Tan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465897

Bug ID: 465897
Summary: Potential problem in passing AppData translations to
appstream-data
Classification: Developer tools
   Product: releaseme
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: tyson...@tysontan.com
CC: sit...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

First of all, this isn't an issue where AppData files haven't been translated.
They have been translated for years, but never seemed to have made it into
places like Discover and Gnome Software.

#

I've tested with:
1) Latest versions of ArchLinux and Ubuntu;
2) Simplified Chinese locale;
3) Discover and Gnome Software;

For example, in this environment, applications like Krita, digiKam, Kdenlive do
not show up in Discover with Chinese descriptions. But they have been 100%
translated by me since 2018, and their AppData translations are properly
displayed on https://apps.kde.org/

https://apps.kde.org/zh-cn/krita/
https://apps.kde.org/zh-cn/digikam/
https://apps.kde.org/zh-cn/kdenlive/

I don't think this is likely to be a bug in Discover, or mis-packaging of
appstream-data, because some KDE applications do have Chinese AppData
translations, but they are very old. Most of their data came from a time before
2018. Other less active languages like Japanese also seem to have the same
problem. Both ArchLinux and Ubuntu have the same problem.

It seems as if the AppData translations have stopped being passed to places
like appstream-data, sometime before 2018.

#

I must admit that I do not really know how things works for appstream, but in
this article:
https://blogs.gnome.org/uraeus/2022/06/10/how-to-get-your-application-to-show-up-in-gnome-software/

There is a paragraph:
"An optional gettext or QT translation domain which allows the AppStream
generator to collect statistics on shipped application translations."

I wonder, is it possible for this thing to be mis-configured?

This issue has been plaguing us for years now, affecting the discoverability of
apps in non-English languages. I have exhausted any lead at this point. Help
would be greatly appreciated.

The translations of the description of apps (AppData entries) are not showing
in Discover. The system's locale has been set to zh_CN.UTF-8 (Simplified
Chinese).

I don't know what "statistics" means.

Note that every KDE application are having the same problem. Even the ones that
still show translations in Discover, have very old translations. Only Gnome
Applications seem to have updated translations in Discover.

Is it possible for our appdata template to be malformed, at some point before
2018?

No, this is not a ArchLinux specific problem. Ubuntu has the same problem.

I wasn't able to test Fedora because it does't contain Krita in its default

I've managed to get Gnome Software refreshed on Fedora. The situation is
largely the same, but with a small bit of difference. The screenshots can be
viewed in Comment 11 and Comment 12 .

digiKam in this case has one line translated, which is the "content" string
from the desktop entry:
digikam._desktop_.pot
#: core/app/main/org.kde.digikam.desktop:120
EN: Manage your photographs like a professional with the power of open source
CN: 自由开源的专业照片管理程序

The translation of this line is up to date, which was translated by me around
2021. So some of the new translations did get through (which was reflected in
your Comment 8). However, the translations for the whole description is still
missing.

Note that this is not just a KDE application issue. Most non-Gnome
applications, like the stuff made by Deepin project, also has only this
"content" line translated. I can confirm that on Ubuntu and Archlinux.

Now in Comment 14 and Comment 15 you can see how Deepin File Manager and
Audacious are both missing translations.

The similarity of them being they all use Qt.

Audacious used to be a GTK2 application. It was later ported to Qt5. I clearly
remember it had full translations in Gnome Software back when I was using
Gnome. But now it has none on Arch (!), one line on Fedora (!).

Deepin is a native Chinese project, so they have always been fully translating
their stuff since the very beginning, but they use using a very old version of
Qt, which could be the reason for why they still have 1 line translated.

Could this actually be a bug/misconfiguration to how Qt handles AppData
translation/its marking of the translations?

I've tested more.

Under Japanese locale, the situation is similar to Comment 16.

Under French and Spanish locale, Audacious is missing translations while
digiKam has everything.

I'm pretty sure these 2 applications are popular enough to have everything
always fully translated at all times. But something is preventing them from
showing up.

However, the S-Pen's side button events seems to be broken now.

I used to be able to being up the Pop-up Palette by simply pressing S-Pen's
side button. The even was recognized as a Middle Click. Now I must hold the

Krita debug tablet and mouse event log

Hi Sharaf, the second APK was able to install, and the S-PEN's side button now
works as intended.

But the touchpad event is now all messed up.

1) Krita can only receive Left Button click from the touchpad. It ignores the
touchpad's right click events completely (either by clicking on the touchpad's
buttom-right corner / or using the 2-finger tapping gesture). These
right-clicks works as intended outside of Krita. "Use mouse event for right
click" didn't help.

2) Left click on canvas sometimes initiates brush strokes, and the stroke
continues to draw even when the left button is released. I must do another left
click to end the stroke.

3) Mouse cursor on canvas is still missing after the S-Pen is in range and then
removed from range.

I've recorded another input log, and attached in this comment.

Oh, by the way, don't worry about the config data. They are gone. No big deal
though, just 15 minutes of re-setting everything. That's why I always use only
the default brushes. XD

I think by checking the option of "Keep all the data", the only data it would
keep, was the permissions allowed for the app. All data in
/Android/data/org.krita.next/files/ were removed at uninstall, regardless of
what you do.

Well, at least now I know I can backup/restore the data via MTP...

Mouse and trackpad Settings page of Galaxy Tab S8

The trackpad on the Samsung official keyboard cover can only produce a
Left-Mouse-Button event.
The trackpad's "Right Click" does not produce a Right-Mouse-Button event.
It produces an "Opens Contextual Menu" signal instead.
Krita doesn't seem to recognize that signal.

A Bluetooth mouse can produce a proper Right-Mouse-Button event on Galaxy Tab
S8.
But if in System Settings, the Secondary button is set to None (default is Open
Contextual Menu), then RMB is lost.

Krita recognizes RMB event in its configuration dialogue.
However, it doesn't recognize RMB on its canvas.

On Krita's canvas, the first click from a touchpad/mouse is always recognized
as "start of a brush stroke", and the second click recognized as "ending of a
brush stroke", regardless of Left/Right button.

Notes:
Galaxy Tab S8 has been updated to the latest One UI 5.1.
The keyboard cover has received a firmware update since the initial report.

Anyway, I suppose the original bug in this report has been fixed in your latest
APK. Maybe we should just mark this bug as fixed, and call it a day?

I guess the issues I mentioned in Comment 18 and Comment 21 were not caused by
your code. Perhaps, they have always been there, I just never paid attention.

Krita not being able to recognize RMB on its canvas is a serious bug,
nonetheless. Especially when we routinely recommend users to use Krita with a
keyboard.

It seems every Android tablet device invents a different way to deal with
RMB/Context Menu events, making it troublesome to support each device properly.

[krita] [Bug 469945] Krita Nightly crashed after a few brush strokes

2023-05-18 Thread Tyson Tan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=469945

I attached the KRA file which I experienced the crash below:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/14h2405l8glhs4n/fanart_20230331A_20190211_celeste.zip?dl=0

I was using a custom brush.
Engine: Pixel
Brush tip: Image -- chisel_soft
Size: 92.46px
General:
Size -> Pressure (Exponential upward curve)
Rotation -> Direction (Linear)
Texture:
Strength -> Pressure (Linear) 100%

I was drawing on the Layer named "Maddy". It's a normal layer.

I was drawing slowly for the long black lines along the character's boots.
Krita would not handle more than 10 strokes before it froze, and then crashed
immediately afterward without any message.

I also received a libwacom package update on Archlinux today before using
Krita. I wonder if that could be related.

Tested with today's appimage: krita-5.2.0-prealpha-e6c66a0bd4-x86_64.appimage

It appeared that the crash has nothing to do with brush action specifically.
Krita would just crash by doing anything, after started for a while. It
wouldn't crash on its own. It'd crash by doing any action or by just closing
the document.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470871

你好,你想报告什么问题?你的报告的标题是“图片不能把字体提取出来,也不能粘贴新文本”。你应该描述的是:
你打算在 Krita 中做什么,为此进行了什么操作,遇到了什么问题。要具体说明。

你现在附带上来的日志对你标题中描述的问题是没有价值的,因为日志只能用来排查程序崩溃。

如果你不懂英语,可以直接写中文。我会帮你翻译成英语。

[krita] [Bug 470871] Krita lacks the ability to extract text from image and then paste them as text object

2023-06-10 Thread Tyson Tan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470871

The original bug reporter contacted me using email. It turned out to be a
feature request rather than a valid bug report.

The reporter wanted to request the feature of automatically extracting
flattened text from an image, along with the font style, the user can then
paste into a real text object.

>From the description in their email, I think the reporter also wanted to
request the feature of creating fonts by mimicking the flattened text.

The reporter said "Photoshop already has this", and "I would like you to
improve your tutorials and other places as well" without saying anything
specific.

I could not find any information about Photoshop being able to do what they
mentioned. I'm speculating that they might have glanced some Photoshop
tutorials which they misunderstood the content and thought it was all
automation feature of the app.

I had a light stroke reading their email. The writing could use much coaching.

I would categorize this as "Report Under Influence (RUI)". :P

When I reported bug 469945, this bug didn't occur. So the last known good date
is 2023-05-18, and it has nothing to do with that bug either, since Dmitry
has already fixed it before build pipeline #1116.

[krita] [Bug 463115] [Android] Krita loses detection of mouse events on canvas after S-PEN is in range, and it won't come back

2023-01-26 Thread Tyson Tan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=463115

I have tried to log the tablet events today. It seemed to be successful,
judging from the prompts. However, I have no idea how to find the log files on
Android.

There is a new finding: when the bug happened, I left mouse clicked on the
canvas, the cursor returned and it was functional. This felt similar to another
bug I reported earlier (after creating/opening a document, the canvas would
freeze until I draw something on it)

BTW, this bug has become less relevant to my Krita usage, as I figured out that
the most comfortable way to use Krita on an Android tablet -- to ditch the
keyboard and mouse completely, and to use the screen vertically, with no docker
shown.

It seemed to have fixed itself now. I thought it was out of sync, because after
updating the translation SVN, I didn't see dev.krita.org using the new
translations for days.

Do we usually need a few days before dev.krita.org loads the new translations?
