For those of us that just want to use Ubuntu without having to care what a
"kernel" is, could someone kindly explain how to install the fix from comment
#108? Just download all the .deb files from that web-page and install them
with the software updater or software center?
Thank you.

Public bug reported:
Seen in ADT on i386, though I've also reproduced in an amd64 vm. Running
the following appears to use up all RAM in the system:
# stress-ng -v -t 10 --sockfd 4 --ignite-cpu --syslog --verbose
--verify
** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
Importance: Medium
Status:
Playing around with this a bit, with 1GB of RAM in my vms this seems to
always happen. If I bump it to 2GB I don't see a problem any more on
amd64. I still see memory problems with i386, but I also see it with a
4.10 kernel, so not sure why we aren't seeing this fail on zesty i386.

I am having the same problem on ubuntu 16.04.2, kernel 4.4.0-75-generic,
and on a mint 18 system, kernel 4.4.0-21-generic. I have several cifs
mounts, and if any one server becomes unresponsive, then any process
attempting to access the mounts will hang indefinitely. If I unmount
using -l and wait
