meanwhile I upgraded to 13.10 to get a fix for touchscreen issue in xorg (just
upgrade - no completely new install).
Sometimes I have to plug in the modem twice until it is recognized correctly,
but then it normally works.

I can confirm the problem too in 13.10. I tried this with the latest
development release 25.1.2014 as instructed, but the apport-collect
command did not work (requiring apport-python or something to be
installed and the installation did not work in the live session) nor did
the modem work in the de
LJ, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity
in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so,
could you please test for this with the latest development release of
