Bug description:
Tracking bug for the application of the retpoline hint tracking
  support.

We are having terrible trouble with hints changing on every build.
Upstream is moving to hinting those indirections which have been
reviewed and are good. This includes direct hinting of PVOPS and the
like which are the ones which change all the time as new ones appear
  and dissappear.

Backport the hint support and add our own bespoke checkers against
  this data.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1758856] Re: retpoline hints: primary infrastructure and initial hints

2019-02-14 Thread Brad Figg
This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves
the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the
results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-
bionic' to 'verification-done-bionic'. If the problem still exists,
change the tag 'verification-needed-bionic' to 'verification-failed-
bionic'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will
be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1758856] Re: retpoline hints: primary infrastructure and initial hints

2018-04-04 Thread Thomas Faller
There is a patch: https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/unstable/commit/?id=7c833a7bd411805861b77af148cb2fc30e429210

But it did not solve the problem for me.
If I build via "make-kpkg", then the debian/rules gets overwritten which
contains the patch.

Building just with "make bindeb-pkg" doesn't work either, because the
debian/rules is not called.
