So I installed the linked image on a USB and booted that up.
The problem still persists. I also tried setting the antenna selection

With all kernel versions so far tested including mainline v4.15.4 the
audio device permanently disappears even after a cold reboot once the
headphones have been plugged/unplugged.
Looks to be a firmware issue; latest firmware has been installed but
issue remains.

this regression. We first need to identify the last kernel that did not
have this bug and the first that did.
