I don't know Kicad much but from what Stephane wrote there doesn't seem
to be one for Kicad. What I do a lot is import AutoCAD files into a
mechanical CAD program and them export them in some other format that is
more compatible. For that purpose I bought IMSI DesignCAD 3D, way
overkill for me but it cost only $10 as a liquidator. Now they have only
a version three releases newer than mine which I don't know, for $20:

http://store.purplus.net/de3dmaxv18.html

Good thing is, you get a pretty powerful CAD system for mechanical stuff.

Also, if it's just to transfer some simple drawing or symbol into a
schematic or layout try the free readers that are available for many CAD
programs. If they let you copy to the clipboard maybe that's all you
really need. Another option is to print (if they let you) to a file via
a programm such as PDFCreator which lets you store in all sorts of
compatible formats.

Re: [kicad-users] Re: Symbol library

2009-12-09 Thread Andy Eskelson
Just create whatever you need in the normal way.
If the shape is the same for all units then you use "common to units"
tickbox in the graphic shape options / proprieties

If you want DIFFERENT shapes per part then you make sure that you DO NOT
tick the common to parts tickbox.

Obviously you have to be careful with your pin allocation as well.

I use this method to create things like relay contacts and coils, to
allow me to place the coils in one part of the cct, and the contacts in
another.

I've had bit of a search and can't seem to locate any..

Would you be prepared to share?

Hi,

Of course you can.

Electrically only pin names are useful.
The shape is only a draw. So, you can draw each part as you like.

Pedro.

Re: [kicad-users] Re: Solder paste

2009-12-09 Thread Robert
There is a Perl script available that will shrink the paste on all pads
(google "shrink_paste.pl" kicad). I guess you could edit it if you
don't want to shrink all components.

Robert.

[kicad-users] Re: Solder paste

2009-12-09 Thread weilu0

I have the problem of too wide opening for the stensil made from solder paste
layer. Which results in too much solder paste applied for QFN and lots of
solder bridges in manufacturing. However reducing the solder paste of specific
modules seems to be a challenge in current released version: 20090216.

Just wandering when will anything enabling the editing of solder paste opening
be available... Or what is the result of those old discussions as below?

Wei

Fixed in ver2.
Field creation function also had an error in module editor "Add text" (CANCEL
is ignored)
