[Koha] Community positions for the 24.11 cycle

2024-04-18 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi everyone,

We need your help!

I'd like to advertise that we have a vote upcoming in the community for the
roles for the next release cycle, 24.11.

Please see the roles page at
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Roles_for_24.11 and add your name to a
role if you would like to propose volunteering for it. The team vote will
take place on May 2nd at the next community general meeting
.

We'd love to see some new faces on the team, and it's just as important to
have non-developers helping to guide the ship as it is the developers.

Some roles I'd like to draw your attention to:

* Bug Wranglers
 - We can
always do with more bug wranglers! These people love to keep things tidy
and Bugzilla is always in need of your help. We need people to help manage
'the list', identify the duplicates, promote bugs to specialists and find
people to do signoffs and testing. Everyone is invited to this party, we
need you! This is a great first-time role to take on and it makes a real
difference to active community contributors' lives!

* Documentation Team
 -
The documentation team is a growing team that's made great inroads into
bringing Koha's documentation up to date and ensuring we have a
well-documented piece of software. There's plenty more to do and they're
always on the lookout for new contributors. The documentation team are a
super-friendly group and would love to see you join them; Aude is happy to
have a chat should you want to talk about
the role before applying.

* Wiki Curators
 - Koha's
wiki is bursting at the seams with good information, but we need your help
to bring order to the chaos and keep improving the content. If you've got
an interest in maintaining an area of the Wiki, helping identify
out-of-date information or categorizing data then this is a job for you.

* Meeting facilitators
 -
We have regular meetings in the community to discuss development progress,
documentation tasks and general community needs. It would be really
helpful to have someone to help promote those meetings, keep them on track
and work on the minutes. Right now these meetings tend to be run,
recorded, minuted and promoted all by the team managers and that's a
difficult task. We'd really like some help here, please.

* Accessibility advocate
 -
In Koha, we really want to be open and accessible to all but accessibility
is an area that many of us are not as aware of as we should be. We'd like
to have some people helping to promote best practices and report
accessibility issues we might not be aware of.

There are lots of other roles and I'm more than happy to try and mentor
anyone interested in taking any of them on. If it's not something I've
personally taken on in the past, I'm confident I can find the right person
to help you out.

Looking forward to seeing some new names on the list and your active
engagement.

Re: [Koha] support newer Linux version

2023-11-03 Thread Renvoize, Martin
As Michael correctly highlighted, we support latest releases as well as
maintaining a level of backwards compatibility too.

Could you let us know where you got your information so we can ensure it's
updated.. it sounds like your looking at something that's outdated.

Re: [Koha] Libraries, template toolkit and notices

2023-10-27 Thread Renvoize, Martin
This is an interesting requirement and actually reminds me of the
development work I did for accounts notices/receipts. In that piece I set
up code to look for more specific versions of notice prior to defaulting to
the existing ones.. so for example we look for a notice with code "
'CREDIT_'.$credit->type " before falling back to "ACCOUNT_CREDIT" should
the more specific option not exist.

I could see it being a fairly simple development to add such functionality
to some other notices if you thought to worthwhile. Of course, it would
need good documentation to make it clear such an option exists.

Just a thought and touting for development work as usual ;).

[Koha] Have you ever wondered how to get your mention in the release notes and about page?

2022-10-13 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hello Community!

If you've ever wondered how all those people get their names in lights on
the Koha About page, or in the release notes each release now is a great
time for you to have a go.

All it takes is for just one patch to be accepted, and as luck would have
it there's a whole list of easy

starter bugs in Bugzilla at
the moment and a whole group of eager developers on hand to guide you
through a submission in our chat
 channels.

It's also a chance for you to get a sneak peek at the latest happenings in
the next feature release of Koha.

So why not have a go, and make Koha even better for everyone in the process

Re: [Koha] search patron not working

2022-06-21 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi Giuseppe,

I think wires have been crossed a little here, you didn't need to switch to
oldoldstable.. that's the Koha codename. you have two codenames in there..
one for the OS you're running on and one for the Koha version you wish to
follow.

I'd stick to 'stable' for the Koha version and add the Ubuntu codename to
get the dependencies built for your OS to support the Koha version you've
selected. It's not 'normal' in the debian packaging sense but it's the
best work around we found to support different Koha versions across the
different operating systems and OS versions we test against.

So the whole line should read along the lines

deb http://debian.koha-community.org/koha stable main bionic

You should then find an apt update and upgrade will grab the correct
dependencies for your version and operating system.

Re: [Koha] Analytical cataloguing causing a searching warning

2022-02-28 Thread Renvoize, Martin
What version of Koha are we talking about?

A couple of changes in this area happened in 21.05 and 21.11.

I'm envisaging it's something around here:
https://git.koha-community.org/Koha-community/Koha/src/branch/master/Koha/Biblio.pm#L561
in 21.11 or around
https://git.koha-community.org/Koha-community/Koha/src/branch/21.05.x/opac/opac-detail.pl#L195
in 21.05.

The short of it is.. we've used that query for years in the XSLT.. it got
moved/added to the controller and then moved again into the Object to allow
a pre-search to work out whether to display the analytics link or not
depending on if any analytics exist for the record being loaded.

It would have just hit the error later in proceedings (i.e on clicking the
link) prior to now. I'm not sure how we could improve the search itself
though, or what the error really alludes to :(.

Hopefully, it helps with tracking it down though.

[Koha] KohaAdvent - Call for idea's

2021-10-15 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi all,

We're looking to organise another Koha advent calendar series this year and
I'm trying to be a bit more organised than last year. (
https://koha-community.gitlab.io/KohaAdvent/)

Last years calendar was themed around building a plugin. This year I'd like
to suggest a broader community theme with best practice guides and how to's
including all the way's people can contribute to the project and get the
most out of the community.

With that in mind, are there any area's anyone would like us to focus on in
particular, any how-to guides you would be keen to see? Let us know and
I'll try and find the appropriate person to write something up.

Many thanks in advance for your idea's

[Koha] Monthly Community Meeting

2021-09-01 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi all,

We had our monthly general meeting today, as usual, hosted on IRC.
Attendance has been very low for a while now and we mooted the idea of
dropping it from our schedule and instead just having perhaps two meetings
a year, one for Kohacon votes and a second for a broader annual general
meeting should anyone want to raise any points in that formal setting.

The next meeting is scheduled for 13th October 2021 at 1400 UTC where we
will vote on the new reduced format.

We're open to new idea's at any time and I'd be happy to try a video
meeting or something if people would prefer. But at this point, we're not
discussing much and I don't know if we're missing peoples views or people
just don't have many or they have other ways of communicating with the
community at large.

Hope everyone is well,

Re: [Koha] Shibboleth-only authentication

2021-03-31 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi Andy,

In the sites I worked with when developing this feature the 'no login link
at all if already logged in' was indeed the intended behaviour. I imagine
that could be fairly easily resolved to a further system preference if you
wanted to submit a bug for it?

Regards the logout.. this does work if your Identity provider supports
single sign out and you've got your service provider configured to send the
logout codes. It will log you out of everything at the same time, not just
Koha.

In my understanding, that is the intention of SSO vis Shibboleth.. some of
our sites login to Windows at the beginning of the day and don't expect to
have to login to any service from that point onwards.

I hope that helps,

[Koha] Sandboxes now support translations

2021-03-04 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi All,

I spent a few minutes adding a new feature to the ptfs-e sandboxes today -
http://sandboxes.ptfs-europe.co.uk/

You can now install a limited number of translations onto your test
sandbox. Once you have a sandbox set up, you can now pick 'Install
translation' from the "Actions" menu in the sandbox manager and pick to
install French, German or Spanish (I tried to pick the three most popular,
but let me know if you want another option added). Once you submit the
form, it'll take a moment to return the output of the commands that run...
you can then enable the translation via the koha system preferences inside
your sandbox as usual.

Hope that helps,

[Koha] Happy Advent

2020-12-01 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi All,

As a long term follower of the perl advent
calendar series, it's been on my mind for a few years now to emulate it for
the Koha world..

As such, I've badgered a few devs for a bit of help and low and behold..
I'm proud to announce our very own:
https://koha-community.gitlab.io/KohaAdvent

Many thanks to my "volunteers" helping to bring this together at the last
minute and especially Tomas for writing the first article to get us
underway.

The theme will be plugins, integrations and api's from the perspective of
development.

Have a great xmas everyone,

Re: [Koha] koha script wiki

2020-11-08 Thread Renvoize, Martin
By all means feel free to add a page to the wiki...

I do wonder, however, why don't you submit useful scripts to the project
via bugzilla instead..? That way they would benefit from the many eyes of
our signoff and quality assurance process, get documented as part of the
standard documentation processes and be more accessible to end users?

Just some thoughts,

[Koha] Roles for 21.05

2020-11-04 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi All,

Last call for submissions to take on a role for the 21.05 release cycle
before the vote at this evenings general meeting.

It came to our attention that the release maintainer roles were looking
sparse in the community developers meeting this afternoon.

Victor has graciously offered to take on the oldoldstable again, and Tomas
will take on oldstable if we don't get any other candidates.

It would be great to have some new members of the team, and the oldstable
maintainer role would be a great role to take on (with the support of
myself, Tomas and the rest of the development team). The role is well
described here:
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Project_roles#Release_maintainer and
the processes are well documented on
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Release_maintenance. Do please feel
free to replace Tomas's name on the roles page or reply here if you're
interested.

Hope you are all well,

[Koha] Koha 20.05.00 Released

2020-05-31 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hello Everyone,

It is with great pleasure I am able to announce the release of Koha 20.05,
a major release of the Koha open source integrated library system.

This release includes 13 new features, 275 enhancements, 592 bugfixes.
Please see the release notes for further details:
https://koha-community.org/koha-20-05-released/

It is the work of many librarians, developers and community members who
have donated a huge number of hours to keep the project moving forward. My
thanks go out to all who contributed.

This is my final release as a release manager and I'd like to extend my
personal thanks to a fantastic team.

Special thanks go out to Mason James, Tomas Cohen and Jonathan Druart, all
who stepped in during the final weeks of the cycle to ensure the packaging
would work as expected for Debian 10 as well as finding and fixing bugs
right up to the very end of the cycle. I cannot overstate what a great
team I've had behind me this cycle and I feel we have achieved a huge
amount.

Debian packages, will be available on the standard community repositories
soon having been tested via our beta channels for the past two weeks.

Many thanks,

*Martin Renvoize*

[Koha] 20.05.00 Alpha release

2020-05-22 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi all,

As we've got a number of improvements in the translations and packaging
processes in this release I have built an alpha to test prior to a full
release in the coming days.

If you have time to work through any test upgrades/installs using
the nightly Debian repository it would be greatly appreciated to get your
feedback.

The repository is available at http://apt.kohaaloha.com/koha-nightly/.

Things to look out for:

* Debian 10 Support!
* Installer process and translations of default data
* Circulation rules being added correctly during onboarding
* Logging and log file permissions

Any feedback given over the next few days will be taken into consideration
before I build the release notes and officially release to the wider world.

Many thanks,

*Martin Renvoize*

[Koha] 20.05 Release Dates

2020-04-20 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi Everyone,

Time is marching on and I felt it pertinent to set the structure for end of
the 20.05 cycle.

I've now added my intended date to the community calendar,

1st May - Feature Freeze
8th May - String Freeze
22nd May - Release

Thanks to everyone for their diligent efforts this release, it's shaping up
to be a real bumper edition with some great new features and lots of
bugfixes and enhancements.

So, what now?

We need all the help we can get to bring the manual up to date, improve the
release notes and spot and fix any last bugs. Looking ahead, it's a great
time to add you names to the release team list for the next cycle.

Stay safe,

*Martin Renvoize*

[Koha] Roles for 20.11 now open

2020-04-07 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi everyone,

The role proposals page for the upcoming 20.11 development cycle is now
available at https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Roles_for_20.11
 and we'd love to see
some new names on the volunteers' list. The vote on roles will be held at
the may irc general meeting and descriptions of what the roles entail can
be found here: https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Project_roles.

Roles to draw your attention to:

* Bug Wranglers - We can always do with more bug wranglers! These people
love to keep things tidy and Bugzilla is always in need of your help. We
need people to help manage 'the list', identifying the duplicates,
promoting bugs to specialists and finding people to do signoffs and
testing. Everyone is invited to this party, we need you!

* Documentation Team - The documentation team is a growing team that's made
great inroads into bringing Koha's documentation up to date and ensuring we
have a really well-documented piece of software. There's plenty more to do
and they're always on the lookout for new contributors.

* Wiki Curators - Koha's wiki is bursting at the seams with good
information, but we need your help to bring order to the chaos and keep
improving the content. If you've got an interest in maintaining an area of
the Wiki, helping identify out of date information or categorizing data
then this is a job for you.

* Quality Assurance Team - This vitally important team is always looking
for new recruits! If you've got an eye for detail, or you're a tester who
likes rolling up their sleeves a little bit and looking at how a piece of
code works, then we'd love to hear from you. Again, there's always support
available from 'the usual suspects' so don't shy away, why not make this
your first cycle on the QA team and see how much fun it can be working with
this important team.

* Quality Assurance Topic Expert - Do you know one particular area of koha
better than the rest? Are you the 'go to' guy (or gal) for SIP2, EDI,
Acquisitions or another area of Koha? We'd like to hear from you too. You
don't have to know the whole codebase to be a great QA Specialist, you're
an expert in what you know and we always need more experts.

Those are just a few highlights, please see the wiki page above for the
full list.

[Koha] Virtual Hackathon

2020-03-18 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi All,

As many of you are already aware we had to cancel the annual community
Hackfest in Marseille this year due to COVID-19.

However, we are intending to run an open to all virtual Hackathon as an
alternative.

Some ideas have been added to the Wiki
and a Trello
 board exists
to capture peoples intentions and work efforts over the week.

To get us started, ByWater have offered to host a couple of live streams:

* Wednesday, March 25th Koha Virtual Hackfest - Documentation 9:00am EST /
1:00pm UTC https://www.youtube.com/user/bywatersolutions/live
--

* Friday, March 27th Koha Virtual Hackfest - Code Spaghetti 11:00am EST /
3:00pm UTC https://www.youtube.com/user/bywatersolutions/live

I intend to host at least one myself aimed at getting people started with
how to pick bugs to test and use the community sandboxes to sign them off.

IRC will be full of people
keen to help and get involved to do pop in.

I look forward to seeing many of you online next week,

*Martin Renvoize*

[Koha] Saying farewell to QueryParser

2020-03-02 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi All,

As discussed at the development meeting on the 19th February

we have decided to remove the QueryParser option and code from Koha.

This decision was not taken lightly, but with the move towards
Elasticsearch and the lack of follow-through support for continued bug
fixing and improvements in the QueryParser code we decided to reduce out
maintenance debt and remove it. We used HEA to try to ascertain if anyone
had been using the option and it appears to have little to zero adoption
(and at the time of writing, had a number of bad bugs which meant using it
was advised against for some time).

Jonathan D has worked hard to produce a patch quickly to do this work and I
intend to push this later today to reduce the risk of repetitive rebase
requirements.

So, join me in saying farewell to QueryParser, a nice idea never fully
realised.

Many thanks as ever to the koha development team,

*Martin Renvoize*

[Koha] Global Bug Squashing Day - February 14th 2020

2020-01-30 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi All,

At the last Koha Developers Meeting, it was proposed that we bring back
regular Global Bug Squashing Day events to help keep the bug queue moving
along and encourage more people to get involved.

As such, we are arranging such a day to take place on the 14th of February.
We hope to see some new names added to the list of contributors: Testing,
Signoff, Quality Assurance, Patch Writing, Documentation additions all
count, and there will be friendly developers available to help throughout
the day on IRC !

If you have always wanted to get involved now is a good time, so spin up a
devbox, try out a sandbox, or just visit us in IRC and ask everything you
wanted to know about Koha and we will help as best as we can.

Please see
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/2020-02-14_Global_bug_squashing_day for
more information.

Re: [Koha] Difference Between MariaDB and MySQL

2019-12-18 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Interesting to have this conversation come up at this time,

We've been fighting recently to maintain compatability with both MySQL and
MariaDB as in recent times they have started to diverge.

On a personal note, I don't feel agnosticism is the best route, I'd like to
see us pick a DB as a community and then advocate using that database to
its fullest potential. Being agnostic, both in vendor and version, means
were stuck with a pretty low bar for our lowest common denominator in code
(or we introduce vendor and version specific code paths for each dB we
support and give ourselves an additional maintainence challenge). We can't
currently implement some types of constraints and as such risk data
integrity in places, we can rely on JSON or XML features for performance
boost.. just a couple of examples of where we are missing out.

As for the debate between the three big contenders, MySQL, MariaDB and
Postgres.. I feel MariaDB has already won to some extent in the Koha
codebase, and is the obvious choice. I have worked with Postgres and love
it, but I'm not sure how close we are to being able to support it in Koha
at this time.. my experience is that it's considerably stricter and we use
our SQL schema in some 'interesting' ways.

All good food for thought and an interesting conversation to have rolling.

Martin

Re: [Koha] Warning about patron relationship problems?

2019-12-11 Thread Renvoize, Martin
This looks like a bug to me, you should not see ARRAY but rather see a
relationship name that exists in your database table but does not yet exist
in the system preference.

I'll take a look and file a bug for it.

[Koha] Koha 19.11.00 Released

2019-12-02 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hello everyone,

It is my great pleasure to be able to announce the release and
immediate availability of Koha 19.11, a major release of the Koha open
source integrated library system.

The release includes 7 security fixes, 20 new features, 146 enhancements
and 367 bugfixes. Please see the release notes for further details:
https://koha-community.org/koha-19-11-release/

It is the work of many librarians, developers and community members who
have donated a huge number of hours to keep the project moving forward. My
thanks go out to all who contributed.

This is my first release as a release manager and I'd like to extend my
personal thanks to those who preceded me and helped guide me. I am hugely
grateful to have had the support of such a team.

Special thanks go out to Mason James, for stepping in at the last minute
and taking on the packaging of the release for the community repositories.

As noted above, this release includes 7 security fixes, which have all also
been included in the stable and old-stable branches and so it would be wise
to upgrade as soon as possible to your respective versions.

Debian packages, for both this version and the prior versions, are
available now. If you are following a suite you will
automatically upgrade to the next branch with this release, more info here:
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Debian#Follow_a_suite:_stable.2C_oldstable_.E2.80.A6

Many thanks to you all,

Re: [Koha] Roles for Koha 20.05 Release Team now open

2019-11-08 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi All,

Just a little reminder that the 20.05 release teams roles page is ready and
waiting for people to sign up and we'de love to see a few more names on the
list: https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Roles_for_20.05

We're also lacking some of the major roles, we really need someone to step
forward to take on the stable branch release maintainer role for example.

The votes are scheduled for the general meeting on the 13th November, so
sign up now.

Many thanks,

*Martin Renvoize*

[Koha] Koha 18.11.06 release

2019-05-31 Thread Renvoize, Martin
The Koha community is proud to announce the release of Koha 18.11.06.

This is a maintenance release and is my last release as the 18.11.x series
maintainer. The series is however in good hands going forward with Fridolin
Somers taking it on for the next cycle. I'm sure he'll do a great job!

Many thanks to all those who have supported the releases this cycle.

The full release notes are available at
https://koha-community.org/koha-18-11-06-release/

Debian packages will be uploaded in a few days.

Best regards and thanks to all those who have contributed to this release.

Thanks for updating the wiki, sorry to hear it was out of date.. it's been
on my list to take a look at for a while and make sure it all still made
sense.

As an alternative to editing the templates and maintaining a local patch
yourself indefinitely.. it would be great to see a signoff on bug 18506 -
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=18506.

All the best,

Re: [Koha] double fines

2019-05-09 Thread Renvoize, Martin
So, for the LostAndReturned scenario we've now got two bugs detailing the
issue and Nick C has managed to build a test case which I've used to work
out a solution.

Please take a look at bug 22877 and bug 20769 and let us know if you feel
these cover all the cases in this thread.

Many thanks,

Martin

Re: [Koha] double fines

2019-04-16 Thread Renvoize, Martin
For those experiencing this issue, how often are you running fines.pl and
what sort of overdues numbers are we talking about, does the job take
minutes or hours to run to completion? It feels like we may have a race
condition somewhere here.

We do have a number of customers here with the fines job running nightly
and the finesMode set to `Calculate and charge` along with
CalculateFinesOnReturn set to `Do` and none have reported this issue to
date that I'm aware of.

[Koha] Roles for 19.11 now open

2019-04-10 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi everyone,

The role proposals page for the upcoming 19.11 development cycle is now
available at https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Roles_for_19.11 and we'd
love to see some new names on the volunteers' list. The vote on roles will
be held at the next irc general meeting and descriptions of what the roles
entail can be found here: https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Project_roles
.

Those are just a few highlights, please see the wiki page above for the
full list.

Re: [Koha] Upgrade to Koha 18.11 on Ubuntu 16.04

2019-01-23 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hmm, how did you setup your debian repositories; to follow suit or codename
(https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Debian#Set_up_package_sources) ?.

Either way I'm surprised by your results.. If your tracking by codename and
it's set to 17.11 I would have expected a significantly more recent 17.11
to have been installed.

I'll raise this with the packaging manager for you and see if he can help
shed some light on this for you.

[Koha] Koha 18.11.01 release

2018-12-20 Thread Renvoize, Martin
The Koha community is proud to announce the release of Koha 18.11.01.

Please note, this release removes support for using Cache::Memory as your
caching strategy due to unresolvable bugs with its implementation which
cause issues in plack environments. memcached has been the recommended
caching module for some time now, so anyone still relying on Cache::Memory
should consider migrating to Memcached.

This is a maintenance release containing 35 bugfixes

Debian packages will be updated within a few days

That just leaves me to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and express my

[Koha] Permission to remove /misc/cronjobs/staticfines.pl

2018-11-02 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi Everyone,

In a quest to clean up an unused database field in the issuingrules table
(Bug 21753 - issuingrules.chargename is unused and should be removed) I
found a fines script which I've never seen before. It looks like a good
candidate for removal after a quick query to the irc channels but I wanted
to open it here to check if anyone is indeed still using this particular
mode of calculating fines.

Many thanks,

*Martin Renvoize*

[Koha] Handling for items lost in transit

2018-11-01 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi all,

I'm seeking some thoughts regarding 'Bug 21732 - If an item is marked as
lost, any outstanding transfers should be cancelled
'.

Currently, there is no thought given to transfers when an item is marked as
lost, an as such you may have lost items in the transfers queue. This bug
aims to solve this by triggering a cancellation of the transfer at the
point an item is marked as lost.

We have a few questions:

1) Should this be treated as an enhancement or a bug (If it's an
enhancement then we would enable/disable it's functionality based upon a
system preference. If it's a bug (as I advocate), then it would be always
enabled and no system preference would be added)
2) If the items is 'in transit' where should the items holding library be
set to when it is marked as lost (the from or to library).
3) If we consider this a bug, should we add handling for cleaning up the
transfers table at upgrade time for any lost items.

Many thanks for your help,

*Martin Renvoize*

[Koha] Bug 9775 - Unitprice should be hidden when creating an order

2018-10-25 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi all,

There's a bit of contention going on over at bug 9775 and I wanted to ask
the wider audience of librarians for their thoughts on acquisitions
workflows in relation to this bug.

Currently, the 'New order' page, whether it be via a suggestion, via an
existing record or via another means, displays 'Actual cost' as an editable
field.

On further investigation, it appears that this field was intended to
contain the final amount paid and not an estimation and as such the
intention was for it to only be defined at the point of invoice/payments
once it is fixed.

Bug 9775 does exactly this, hides the field from display on the new order
page. It also goes slightly further and prevents a prior paid price (for
serial subscriptions) from carrying across when you are placing your next
new order via a subscriptions search.

My question to you is, is anyone using this field in a different way to my
expectations/understanding? Would it cause anyone any issues to remove
this field from the order screen so it is more clearly defined as to it's
intended use only on the receipting pages? Are there any alternative
improvements you would like to see instead of this change?

Many thanks,

*Martin Renvoize*

Also of note..

If you are using the Debian packages (which is the recommendation for
running in production) then it may be worthwhile having a quick read of
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Debian, paying particular
attention to the section titled: 'Follow a suite: stable, oldstable …'

[Koha] Invitation to join the core team

2018-10-12 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi everyone,

I just wanted to remind you all that the role proposals page for the
upcoming 19.05 development cycle is available at
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Roles_for_19.05 and we'd love to see
some new names on the volunteers' list. The vote on roles will be held at
the next irc general meeting.

* Release Maintainer 18.05 - I've enjoyed being RMaint this last five
months, and have offered to take up the mantle again for the next 'stable'
(18.11) release. So, we need someone to take up my mantle and maintain
'oldstable' (18.05). As ever, the community is a great place and lots of
support will be available to show you the ropes. See
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Release_maintenance for a description
of the day to day activities of this role.

Those are just a few highlights, please see the wiki page above for the
full list.

Re: [Koha] Plack plus shibboleth

2018-09-17 Thread Renvoize, Martin
https://metacpan.org/pod/Mojolicious::Plugin::SAML is another option, but
also relies on us switching away from Apache + Plack entirely and rather
letting hypnotoad act as the server itself and doing away with the native
service provider package entirely too.. but those are real long game goals
;)

Re: [Koha] Plack plus shibboleth

2018-09-17 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Sorry I've not got to this earlier,

I'm languishing on that bug due to lack of funding/interest.

You are entirely correct that there is no way to use environment variables
when using apache merely as a proxy to plack, and that any middlewares etc
just obfuscate this further moving it up the chain rather than actually
resolving the problem.

Tomas's suggestion of running just the authentication piece under CGI mode
may work, although as this is called inside get_template_and_user on every
request I'm not sure how it could happen short of basically turning off
plack on everything.

The final direction I was going to take was to add some sort of shared
signature to the headers which I believe is recommended by the shibboleth
folks themselves. This signature would need to be verified within Koha
before accepting that the header has come from the Shibboleth service
provider package and not through the client.

[Koha] 3.18.06 Package Warning

2015-04-23 Thread Renvoize, Martin
tl;dr

Don't Upgrade Koha Packages to 3.18.06 yet!

Hi All,

Though I'd send a quick heads up that there's a nasty bug in the 3.18.06
package (available on the debian.koha-community.org repository). An
upgrade will result in a couple of warning about unpacking some yui library
files on the command line and in my experience so far, leave you with a
rather nasty display in the staff client. I'm sure it's a trivial fix at
this end once rangi or eythian is awake, but I'd hold off on upgrading
until they give the go ahead ;)

Re: [Koha] [Koha-devel] Koha development

2015-02-24 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Adding into the mixing pot, I agree with all the above comments and that is
hard to measure.

In the blunted of terms ptfs Europe has 2.5 FTE devs working on koha, plus
2 FTE in koha support who also sign off on patches so that's development
time in you metric right? Outside of hours in sure our team contribute
more, for instance on average I also add anything between 1 and 10 hours a
week to my qa role and another 1 to 3 hours on my module maintainer role.
So in effect should I count as more than one fte.

I best put the usual gymph in that the above are just my own estimates, or
company is constantly growing and changing to meet demand and as such our
numbers will always fluctuate around the above averages.

Re: [Koha] [Koha-devel] Any bugs you want worked on?

2015-01-07 Thread Renvoize, Martin
I attempted to tag up a few, but then cait brought to my attention that
tagging is personal in bugzilla?

I have however managed to save a search and make that public which cait can
use to find my three tagged bugs.. does that help at all Chris?

So in the preparation to the academy I encourage you all to tag any bugs
you would like them to look at as 'academy' in bugzilla.

 Thanks for your help

Re: [Koha] Sandboxes

2014-08-08 Thread Renvoize, Martin
I can't be of much help with the biblibre sandboxes.. but your mail did
spur me on to get the ptfs-europe ones back up and running.

I've got them going again this morning (UK Time), and have updated the
sandboxes wiki page accordingly again.

Feel free to give them a go, they're pretty much a clone of the biblibre
ones, with the only distinction being that they are all configured as
MARC21, DOM, DOM and ICU at the back end. You can still load a UNIMARC DB,
but search will be hindered somewhat. The other difference, which should
be transparent to the user, is that they are all hosted on one server in a
multi-tenant configuration. This may affect performance somewhat if
everyone hits them at the same time.

Hope that helps at least a little Nicole

  Hi all,

Tomorrow the Koha North American Users Group will be testing a lot of
patches (we hope). Today when we gave lessons on how to use them we hit a
few snags. Many people never got an email and a few sandboxes kept showing
the installer even though that wasn't chosen.

Would folks at BibLibre please give the sandboxes a look over before
tomorrow so we don't cause major breakage :)

 Thanks a bunch!

Re: [Koha] ldap and extended patron attributes

2014-07-28 Thread Renvoize, Martin
Hi Heiko,

This certainly worked in the past, but maybe a regression has crept in
somewhere (if you do a git log C4/Auth_with_ldap.pm, there are plenty of
patches related to the patron attributes code). If your sure it's still
not working, you'de probably be well served by posting a bug on the
community bugzilla. http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/ to attract
the attention of some of the ldap guru's a bit ;)

Sorry I couldn't be of more help in this regard.

As for the MD5 patch, that's interesting, that might also be a good patch
to post up to bugzilla in it's own entry. It's great sharing to the
community, and someone else might find your work very useful indeed. If you
do however, I'd recommend having a quick look at the coding guidelines (
http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Coding_Guidelines ) as they should give
you a great start in terms of getting your patch accepted.

Cheers

Martin

'preflang' is one of our extended attributes.

 Mapping in koha-conf.xml is done.

intranet-error.log (with debug) shows all attribs and values from ldap
incuding the extended ones without failure.

When it comes to update the extended fields, the error shows up.

We patched Auth_with_ldap.pm a bit, because passwords in our ldap are
stored with MD5. Maybe it is useful for others.

 Insert at the top:

use Digest::MD5 qw(md5_base64);

 Search for this line:

my $cmpmesg = $db-compare( $userldapentry, attr='userpassword',
 value = $password );

 exchange with this one

my $cmpmesg = $db-compare( $userldapentry, attr='userpassword',
 value = {MD5}.md5_base64($password).== );

Re: [Koha] Removal of rss.pl

2014-07-08 Thread Renvoize, Martin
As I've said before, we use it quite prolifically with our customers;
however I'm sure we will work around it should it disappear. We've never
had the time to update it to TT and hadn't really found the inclination
either to be honest.

I'll try and get one of our trainers/configuration guys to comment as it's
them that have always set it up for customers.. but as said, we can always
work around it if no-one else is currently actively using it (and certainly
no-one is actively maintaining it), and I'd vote for it's removal too to
help clean up the code base so we can see the wood for the trees.

Just my two pence,

Martin

Re: [Koha] Access Koha without port number

2014-04-03 Thread Renvoize, Martin
IP based virtual hosts are a viable option, though of course that does mean
getting additional IP's for the server.

You may also want to try googling for NameVirtualHost and ServerName
directives. They should explain what you want. ;-)

 Hello,

Try pointing your browser at http://library.koha.shelf.books without any
port number. That should bring up the same page as with port number 80 .
Port 80 is the default for http .

For your staff client you can create a different IP address, then change
your apache configuration file so it is only listening on that address and
on the default port 80. For instance, you might have something like:

 # OPAC
 VirtualHost 10.0.0.20:80
 ...

 # Intranet
 VirtualHost 10.0.0.21:80
 ...

Substituting the correct IP addresses for your network in the above
 statements.

You would also need to add entries to your ports.conf or similar file to
 reflect the changes.

You then have to configure DNS settings to point the names to the
 different IP addresses. For instance:
 opac.library.koha.shelf.books 10.0.0.20
 intranet.library.koha.shelf.books 10.0.0.21

Restart apache, and you should be able to access the OPAC and staff client
 using the form http://opac.library.koha.shelf.books and
 http://intranet.library.koha.shelf.books

 Hope that helps.

 Doug
