This really kicks in on slow usb connections where larger previews are to be generated (say a thumbnail image of a 3 mb picture) I think the volume should be unmountable even when not all thumbnails have been generated so on doesn't have to wait for thumbnails' creation finish just to unmount the drive. If Dolphin is open showing the content of the pen drive, i'm unable to unmount with dolphin or device manager plasmoid. If I close Dolphin, the pen drive's LED still indicates file system access (indexing?, generating previews?) but i can unmount the device via the device manager. Dolphin should also be able to unmount the device in that situation. For me, also only en_US is preselected, and once I select my username and begin typing, it automatically switches to de_DE including the correct flag. Although I don't have some german special characters, I'll check again for the keyboard layout. Do you have either /etc/locale.conf /etc/vconsole.conf or something in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ ? What does localectl show? As our tools don't run localectl, it will probably show nothing, which might be the cause of the bug as mentioned in https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/202 Will need to check how Colin fixed similar issues for GNOME et al. That might be yet another "old cauldron" issue, Colin did implement some stuff with localectl AFAIU, so maybe sddm works fine on new installs of Mageia 5 beta 3. I'll check that in a VM. To KAccounts, all is the same. The way gnome creates telepathy accounts is also incompatible with ktp, this _will_ result in user having invalid ktp accounts. I am working on making these compatible, but for now they aren't and will not be till 15.08. There's nothing that can make it compatible. facebook-im.service will not be installed from 15.04.1 as facebook chat support is deprecated. Simply renaming all the files is also not a good option, because if you'll have both packages installed, you will have duplicated entries, each doing different things. I'm afraid these two simply aren't co-installable. During session shutdown, ksmserver still removes its bookkeeping data about applications that were terminated for any reason - including those that quit right after session saving. When ksmserver saves the list of existing application slightly later, konsole is gone and, while it has a session save file, that file isn't "registered" in ksmserverrc, which makes it useless. There are at several problems: - QGuiApplicationPrivate::commitData() effectively quits the application if the application didn't call QGuiApplication::setQuitOnLastWindowClosed(false). This is despite Qt's own documentation recommending against quitting the application due to a request to save the session data. - setQuitOnLastWindowClosed(false) is not a good solution. Quit on last window closed is a useful feature, the problem is more that session saving implies closing windows, which doesn't make too much sense. It is supposed to prevent interaction with a state that won't be saved anymore, but there are other ways to do that, e.g. preventing user input and network event handling. - ksmserver should maybe stop removing applications from its internal list while shutting down. Because shutdown can be aborted, changes would have to be queued and applied after an aborted shutdown. Notice that you can't send CTRL+@ either, so this looks like something deeper than keyboard bindings, i.e., it looks like konsole/qterminal cannot send ASCII char 0. The bug that your reported however, does not apply to KDEPrint. The reason: --> this functionality has been implemented many years ago already! <-- The bug report will be closed. To get the 2-up output you want, you should have CUPS installed. I did this with the current KDE CVS HEAD version of KDEPrint (but this is the same in the last few releases): 1. start kprinter 2. click "Expand" button (lower left) 3. select the "Files" tab 4. click "Add file" button (the uppermost one on the right side of the tab, see also tooltip) 5. select as many printable files as you want to put into one printjob (these may be PDF, PostScript, ASCII text, images like jpeg, png, tiff... -- and these may be mixed into the same job too!) 6. order the files as you want them to appear in the final printout (use the arrow buttons to the right of the tab) 7. select your target printer 8. click "Properties..." (upper right of the dialog) 9. on the "General" tab, select your 2-up or 4-up settings, on the other tabs select whatever applies (NOTE, that some settings do apply to some file types, like "scale to 100% of page size" only applies to images...) 10. print and be happy with KDEPrint ;-) Final note: KDEPrint is just a frontend to the underlying print subsystem. As such it works best with CUPS, which is very powerful (and KDEPrint really shines with it). KDEPrint's own functionality are the "Virtual Printers" such as "Print to File (PDF)". If you want to use these in a similar way as described above, you have to make sure that you have all the required pre-filters installed which you can access via "Properties" --> "Filters" tab (see the "Requirement: "exec:/" comments there). But this seems rather complicated. The suggested procedure would require me to have the files I printed on my computer and to print the whole file and not only parts of (at least I understood it that). Also this procedure doesn't seem to support OpenOffice-Files. If CUPS already in general support this functionality this may be not be so difficult. When I send a printing job to kprinter there should be the additional choice "collect print job". Print jobs are collected and can be rearranged until you choose print". This is the way Fineprint (unfortuneatly only for Windows) does it. IMO, this can be (and should be) implemented as a separate tool that can be fired from kdeprint through the pseudo-printer framework: just imagine a "Fineprint" printer bound to a fineprint-like tool that would do what you expect (collect, merge, rearrange, preprocess... print jobs). Unfortunately, I don't have the time neither the resources to implement such an addon. Michael. Read more about Launchpad's inter-bugtracker facilities at https://help.launchpad.net/InterBugTracking. On 2015-09-30T13:19:00+00:00 Trogel-3 wrote: If an HTTP server responds with the "401 Unauthorized" status code and requests SPNEGO authentication with the response-header line "WWW- Authenticate: Negotiate", but kio_http fails to respond to the challenge, Konqueror shows a built-in error page saying "Authorization failed". Instead I'd expect to see the entity body of the server's 401 response. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Konqueror (or rekonq). 2. Enter the URL of a server that responds with the status code "401 Unauthorized" and the header "WWW-Authenticate: Negotiate", where kio cannot respond to the challenge. Actual Results: The browser shows a built-in error page saying "Authorization failed". Expected Results: The browser should show show the entity body of the server's 401 response. The server I'm requesting actually sends an HTML page with a login form, but also allows for SPNEGO authentication (RFC 4559). Therefore it sends the login page with the "401 Unauthorized" status code and the response- header line "WWW-Authenticate: Negotiate". If the client can respond with appropriate authentication data, it will retry the HTTP request with an "Authorization" header. But if it cannot, it should show the entity body of the server's 401 response to the user so that he can log in manually. (I might be wrong, but this is my understanding of RFC 2616, section 10.4, "Client Error 4xx", where it says "User agents SHOULD display any included entity to the user." And that is what at least Firefox and probably other browsers currently do.) However, if kio_http cannot respond to the server's SPNEGO request, it displays a built-in error page. So, Konqueror does not show the server's login form and the user cannot log in manually. Reproduced on - kubuntu trusty (14.04) with kdelibs5-plugins 4:4.13.3-0ubuntu0.1, - kubuntu utopic (14.10) with kdelibs5-plugins 4:4.14.1-0ubuntu1, and - xubuntu vivid (15.04) with kdelibs5-plugins 4:4.14.6-4~ubuntu3.1. It took me a while to understand how this works, but now the fix appears to be quite simple. In certain places where kio_http detects an error, it calls sendErrorPageNotification() to check whether it should show the HTTP body of the server's response or a built-in error page. But this check does not happen when the last attempt to generate an "Authorization" response to the server's authentication request failed. Therefore it always shows the built-in error page in such cases. As a patch to the Ubuntu source package kde4libs-4.14.6 I added such check to kioslave/http/http.cpp and installed the modified package kdelibs5-plugins_4.14.6-4~ubuntu3.1_amd64.deb. For me it works as desired, i.e. Konqueror now shows the login form and I can log in. However, I cannot test this with a working SPNEGO environment, since I have not such environment at hand. (It seems in KDE's source repository the file is now located at ioslaves/http/http.cpp rather than kioslave/http/http.cpp as found in the Ubuntu source package. However, the bug seems to be still present in KDE's source. Just search for "Authorization failed".) This makes it very cumbersome to e.g. correct a mistake in the caption. The text area should contain the previous caption as the default value. Also, in the same dialog, the default focus should be on the text area. Now it is on the OK button, which doesn't make any sense, especially with the text area being empty." This is still the case with digikam 0.10.0 rc1. I think this is sensible expectation for the user and could be implemented for the case where only single image is selected. Old caption should be selected/highlighted in order to allow simple overwrite. Select the first message (Test3). Delete it. You'll note that, as is noble and good, the message Test3 disappears and now Test2 is selected. Yay! 3. Now comes the part that is less noble or good: hit + to go on to the next unread message. You'll note that _both_ Test2 and Test1 are now selected. If you hit delete, _both_ are gone. Rats! The proper behavior would be that, after deleting Test3, only Test2 is selected, and when you hit + only Test1 should be selected. Thanks in advance for your attention to this! I'll be old when i finish... Calm down :-) I had exactly the same problem as this for some time. After long investigation it turned out that something on my keyring was corrupt. It's simple enough to test for this. Back up your keyring, then remove gpg from your system, and start afresh so that it creates an empty keyring. Import your own public key, and replace your private keyring from the backup file. If signing now works there is a corruption in the old keyring. As for the message about contacts, I don't know whether it is connected with the other problem, or whether it is a distro-specific problem. I've never seen it. Try the new-keyring solution first. Note that this issue is not limited to only non-ASCII dingbats like that used in the screenshot. My own native language is not represented in ASCII either, and may be displayed using a font that is wider than the ASCII font used for ASCII. At the moment I'm not sure whether this is a problem of fonts or a problem of Konsole. which font is used in your screenshot? It looks that after the first icon appears on the splashscreen nothing then happens (I see no activity light) for a long time. I don't think it's plasma (it seems to happen before the start of the graphical stuff) but I don't know how to test what's going on, I never did nested sessions... The problem is not fixed by the above link, that's for sure. (In reply to comment #2) Sounds like this could be the khotkeys-deadlock-on-first-startup issue fixed with http://websvn.kde.org/?view=revrevision=881249 It's still present in 4.2.2. I guess that means it's something else. it would be interesting to start such a session, and jump to a terminal console running top to see what processes are hitting cpu (if any) .. if the cpu is quiet, then i assume it is locked in a d-bus call. You're right. Booting from a live cd, there is 15 seconds of disk and CPU activity, followed by 15 seconds of apparent complete inactivity, before the other icons start to fade in. that would bring it down to being one of a small handful of processes; what is your plasma configuration? I'm currently using the Kubuntu 9.04 Live CD, with KDE 4.2.2. This only happens on first login,
