Apart from a new and fresh design, that will finally also properly
support mobile phones and tablets, we've spent quite some time on the
backend system and shared various bits of information with you on
this already.

We've decided to go with the Hugo static site generator, storing the
content in Markdown files and tracking changes in Git. There is no
longer a need to request permission for editing the content or the
site structure and localisation can happen in Weblate.

As the website should be for you, our Community, we're eager to hear
your feedback on the editing process of the proposed new website and
we've decided to provide another testing facility! Master
choreographer Guilhem whipped up an infrastructural dance routine,
which makes it possible to preview changes to the website online.
Please do give it a try and share your questions and feedback with us:

We'd like to encourage especially the localisers who need unique

Editing the website comes in three easy steps:

1. Edit the website in Gerrit as in the recorded demonstration:
https://www.ilmarilauhakangas.fi/gerrit_website_demo.mkv

It occurred to me that one can not click links in videos, so here is
the direct link for creating a change:

Here is the main view of the repository, with the readme:

2. Wait 5 minutes
3. Visit https://newdesign2.libreoffice.org/changes/1234 where 1234

All kinds of nonsensical changes are welcome - just write the commit

[libreoffice-l10n] Plural Formula for Welsh on Weblate

2021-03-24 Thread Rhoslyn Prys

An issue as arisen regarding the plural formula for Welsh on Weblate.

At present the formula appears to be set to:

(n==2) ? 1 : 0

According to the CLDR - Language Plural Rules
<https://unicode-org.github.io/cldr-staging/charts/37/supplemental/language_plural_rules.html>
it should be set to:

nplurals=6; plural=n==0 ? 0 : n==1 ? 1 : n==2 ? 2 : n==3 ? 3 : n==6 ? 4 : 5;

Could we check this, it doesn't look like I'm able to change this in
Weblate?

Thanks

No easy answer on that one. Some checks might be false positives, but

In your case it seems all failing checks are "unchanged translation" -

I can patch weblate to never apply the check for Welsh/cy if you think

Given the 7.1 release plan has a hard code freeze for the second week in

It could be that none of the Welsh translation of Extended Tips that

Hi,

maybe that you have already noticed - strings of extended tooltips
started to appear in the UI strings, there are currently 170 of them.
Originally, they were a part of the help files, where they were marked
by the tag. There are currently 6000+ extended tooltips there.

This means that their translations need to to be transferred from the
help files to the UI files (I exclude the option to translate them again).

Maybe the developers will solve this somehow.

Meanwhile I have written a script etiptrans.py which can do that. Its
usage is as simple as this 4 commands

     etiptrans.py -p ui -l sk download

     etiptrans.py -p help -l sk download

     etiptrans.py -p ui -l sk transfer

     etiptrans.py -p ui -l sk upload

The required access key is taken from an environment variable. It runs
in Linux environment, I think that the Windows 10 Linux environment is
also OK.

The script can do a little more, like checking which files were modified
or what has been changed. It can also transfer  tips from UI to help -
if you already have translated them in UI, but they are not translated
in help. If you want to translate locally (by poedit or so), the script
can help in downloading and uploading files.

It can be used individually for each language by individual translators,
but perhaps also for all languages by somebody who has the required rights.

Do we have a place where to put it, so that anybody can download it?. It
is finished, but needs more testing.  I have to write some documentation

best

It will take c. 6 months to work my way through this. I use Poedit Pro

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Weblate; error uploading files

So I guess same cause here - not picking one of the upload modes.

I downloaded cu/messages and translated it in Poedit. Poedit is
complaining about:

format specification in 'msgid' and 'msgstr' for argument 1 are not the same

#. pA7RB
#: cui/inc/tipoftheday.hrc:208
#, c-format
msgctxt "RID_CUI_TIPOFTHEDAY"
msgid "When you're creating a Style based on another, you can enter a
percentage value or a point value (e.g. 110% or -2pt or +5pt)."
msgstr "Wrth greu Arddull yn seiliedig ar un arall, gallwch nodi gwerth
canrannol neu werth pwynt (e.e. 110% neu -2pt neu +5pt)."

it thinks the string is some placeholder string, so false positive.
it has c-format label, and there placeholders have the form
%[parameter][flags][width][.precision][length]type

A space would be a valid flag (add space for positive number, but a
"-" for negative values) - so "% o" from source string and "% n" are
different, hence it complains/warns.
But that's not the cause of the error

I'm not clear what error is here.

the c-format label on the string is misleading/wrong technically. If
it were used as a c-format/placeholder string, the percent signs would
have to be escaped:
… 110%% or -2pt…
but the string is not used as a placeholder string, so the c-format is
added errornously by xgettext - the strings from hrc files are
extracted using this command:
xgettext -C --add-comments --keyword=NC_:1c,2 --keyword=NNC_:1c,2,3
--from-code=UTF-8 --no-wrap cui/inc/tipoftheday.hrc -o
/tmp/messages.po

But seems the strings in the file don't use c-string style placeholder
definitions for all strings, but a mix of $1 ... $2 style and also %1
or $(ARG1) $(ARG2)...
only 16 strings seems to be using c-style format like this:
NC_("SV_STDTEXT_SERVICENOTAVAILABLE", "The component (%s) could not be
loaded.\nPlease start setup with the repair option.")
But even then it is not real c-format string, but later replaced by a
find and replace (so the placeholder can be anything)

All others use a freestyle-way of placholder %SOMELABEL, the $1 style,
the %1 style or $(ARG1) style...
So "fix" for the bogus warning is to change the xgettext invocation to
not assume C++ format strings/strip the c-format label from the
result.

Any ideas? I'm not sure it's creating
the above error, though.

The warning is unrelated.
Make sure to pick a file-upload-mode and uploading should work.

ciao

Christian

I assume you just didn't pick one of the file-upload modes. You need
to tell weblate how to treat the uploaded strings.
Whether they should be made as suggestions or flagged as fuzzy or
flagged as need review or just committed as-is.

You can then further limit to what strings in the uploaded file that
setting should apply to. You can tell weblate to ignore strings that
are flagged as fuzzy in the po file, and you can also tell weblate to
not overwerite strings that have been translated in weblate already.

Has anyone been able to upload a file to our Weblate?

Yes - and just tried with the component/file you had problems with. So
please double-check whether you did pick a file upload mode.

I guess the bug in weblate is that it doesn't tell what field is
required, just that "This" field is required and hoping that you know
which field is meant ;-)

Error in parameter method: This field is required. "

As I didn't have any problem updloading a file with the change you described:
https://vm137.documentfoundation.org/translate/libo_ui-master/cuimessages/is/?checksum=54e51525910b6a67
I assume you just didn't pick one of the file-upload modes. You need
to tell weblate how to treat the uploaded strings.

I guess the bug in weblate is that it doesn't tell what field is
required, just that "This" field is required and hoping that you know
which field is meant ;-)

ciao
Christian

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Weblate, where we stand currently

2019-11-22 Thread Rhoslyn Prys
What was good about Pootle was that Dwayne and his team were very
focused on ease of use for translators. That was his priority, to
encourage translators to get involved in providing translations,
especially in minority languages for major software programs. He gave me
a lot of encouragement and helped me to transfer to Pootle from the
awful setup Mozilla had at the time.

It's a big loss not to have Pootle being developed and a bigger loss
that the ideas have been lost - anyone seen an easy translatiors guide
to Weblate - https://docs.weblate.org/en/latest/ ?  It's all admin stuff.

Where did you see that suggestion to develop a new system? I wrote that

Weblate and Michal is part of the discussion.

Sharing forces is very important. Also Weblate seems to be a very good
software.

But I wonder, and this is OT: what about sharing or adding forces to
develop and maintain Pootle? Could Pootle be integrated in the TDF
process, or be part of a joint venture, for example, between open
source entities like TDF, KDE, OpenSuse, etc.?

Sorry for the OT, IMHO it's a pity leaving a so good and easy-to-use
tool :)

I tried uploading sfx2/messages I'd downloaded from Weblate, no Pootle

This file I opened in a text editor and filled in one missing

msgctxt "STR_MORE_LINK"
msgid "More info"
msgstr "Nánari upplýsingar"

Saved the file and tried to upload, but the same error appeared again.

Verified the file with:
$ msgfmt -vc 3libo_ui-master-cuimessages-is.po -o

3libo_ui-master-cuimessages-is.po:2: warning: header field
'Last-Translator' still has the initial default value

2270 translated messages, 326 untranslated messages.

Took a look at the header; nothing unusual although both
"PO-Revision-Date" and "Last-Translator" fields are untouched
(original default values). The field "Language-Team" had some
Weblate-gibberish extending over a couple of lines, so I tried to put
in some reasonable values:

"PO-Revision-Date: 2019-11-21 06:41+\n"
"Last-Translator: Sveinn í Felli \n"
"Language-Team: Icelandic \n"

Verified the file with:
$ msgfmt -vc libo_ui-master-cuimessages-is.po -o
libo_ui-master-cuimessages-is.mo

2270 translated messages, 326 untranslated messages.

Uploaded this file but all the same; Weblate refuses to cooperate.

I think I have already mentioned this problem on this ML because it's
not just this Weblate-instance which has these symptoms; uploading
worked w/o hickups until (if I remember correctly) Weblate 3.7 came
into production. I'm also working on several other projects on
various different Weblate-instances; some are affected by this and
others are not. I'm not able to see any pattern or common attributes
for the projects that fail.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Weblate -downloading the cy-GB tranlation of LibreOffice UI Master

2019-11-19 Thread Rhoslyn Prys

Thanks for your reply.

The problem is that you have moved to a new platform with out it being
set up properly and proper testing. Saying things like 'Not an easy one
at the moment, we are working to provide a solution' and '...we are also
working on adding...' shows a lack of consideration for your translators
who contribute freely of their precious time. Why not ask a small group
of translators to get involved in developing a new platform, whilst the
rest continue until it's bullet-proof?

I know Pootle is not being supported, I had a chat with one of the
ex-devs recently, but it's not broken, LibreOffice Weblate as is is not
fit for purpose, it may never be, it was not set up for a large project
like LO.

Have you considered Mozilla's Pontoon? LO's senario is similar to
Mozilla's with Pootle's demise. It's a large scale +100 language
translation tool using .po files, that may fit better than Weblate.

Weblate UI translation (
https://hosted.weblate.org/translate/weblate/master/cy/?type=todo=10#machine
) includes machine translation by Google and Microsoft. Are these going
to be included? They work well for Welsh. Something was appearing at
times under the Machine Translation tab, whilst I worked on the strings.
I though it was the delay. I'd translated the string by the time the
response appeared.

I notice that there are new strings on Pootle LibreOffice 6.3 - UI -
(https://translations.documentfoundation.org/cy/) are these the new
strings in Weblate or are they different?

Are we still using Pootle?

I've been doing some translation in Weblate and it's not working for me.
No translation memory, machine translation is slow or non existent, grey
print that does my glaucoma no good... I did not expect to be
retranslating common words in a project of this size and age. Saving
each string takes about 5 - 25 seconds.

So I'll sort your request one by one:
- translation memory: we are also working on adding Amagama
(https://github.com/translate/amagama), Christian is on it, to solve
this problem
- what do you mean by machine translation, you mean propagation of same
translations?
- could you let me know exactly where is the grey print?
- saving should not take you so long, from the feedback we had, it was
when going backward.

Pootle was better than this.  Why put us through this?

Because as I wrote already Pootle is not maintained any more, we have to
find a replacement for it. We are still in adjustment period trying to
find the best solutions for all of us. I'll post another mail with the
actual status on where we stand, please read it.

Hi Rhos,

This is embarrassing, but it seems that Nextcloud does not have Welsh
localization, while ownCloud has (on demo.collaboracloudsuite.com). I
found cy_GB files in the settings/l10n/ folder of Nextcloud, so in theory
the Welsh language should be selectable at Settings. Maybe it's a Nextcloud
bug. I'm sorry about that.

LO Online has the Welsh localization, but you cannot switch to that
currently. I hope that the situation will improve after some time, this is
a bleeding edge test server with latest versions of all components
(Nextcloud, LibreOffice, LibreOffice Online).

Some thoughts for guys capable of implementing. Of course, I have no
idea whether any of these are feasible.

So, change in English string (tEh original) brings some checks with
the previous value:

1) capitalisation changed? set flag 1
2) shortcut markup changed (like _ to &)? set flag 2
3) typography changed (like ... to …)? set flag 3
4) something else which nobody in the world *needs* to react to?

Then, the flags for the strings are checked against the matrix of
'action values' for those flags and languages.

Just sketching:
'ru', caps=no_reaction, shortcut=autochange (change just the marker
in the translated), typography=autochange (no error if there's no
corresponding), words_changed=react (!)

No 'criticality' in the matrix means the new original is set with the
'NONCRITICAL' (not FUZZY!) flag (needs to be implemented, at least in
the online l10n system?). The team would wish to see and check those
changes, after all.

And even one 'criticality' sets the FUZZY flag, etc.

Hi Niklas,

This has often been debated but I don't think anything ever
happened.

The
main issue with any such tool is that unless it links to the
unique UI
string, it's not much help because most of the time there are
like 50
incidences of and to make matters worse, we have _Edit and

type
hotkeys and worse still, if I search for Edit and the string is
E,

it
won't get found.

The summary of previous discussions is that if a locale does not
assign
hotkeys, the system does it automatically - which no one tells
you when

you
start out, and while I'd prefer that for our locale, I don't have
the
resources to strip all existing hotkeys. Other than that, there
are the
usual problems of not knowing the scope (i.e. what other UI
strings are
sharing the menu with said string) and restricted letter sets
(Gaelic

has
18 letters, fewer if you ignore letters with descenders...)

Ideally I think we'd need a tool which during localization flags
"Duplicated hotkey in menu scope" + list of strings in scope.
And/or a

tool
that allows locales which do not want to assign hotkeys manually to
strip
them all from the existing files so the system can automatically
deal

with

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Basic tool to detect duplicate use of accelerator keys in menus

2015-09-25 Thread Rhoslyn Prys

Thanks, Serg.

What I've done - twice on two separate computers, is to install both :
master~2015-09-23_05.16.23_LibreOfficeDev_5.1.0.0.alpha1_Win_x86_en-US_de_ar_ja_ru_qtz.msi
<http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/Win-x86@62-merge-TDF/2015-09-23_05.16.23/master%7E2015-09-23_05.16.23_LibreOfficeDev_5.1.0.0.alpha1_Win_x86_en-US_de_ar_ja_ru_qtz.msi>

and
master~2015-09-23_05.16.23_LibreOfficeDev_5.1.0.0.alpha1_Win_x86_helppack_qtz.msi
<http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/Win-x86@62-merge-TDF/2015-09-23_05.16.23/master%7E2015-09-23_05.16.23_LibreOfficeDev_5.1.0.0.alpha1_Win_x86_helppack_qtz.msi>

Then I've gone to: Tools>Options>Language Settings>Languages>User Interface.

But all I'm seeing in the dropdown menue is English USA. No KeyID, de, ar, ja
or ru or anything else.

The detail on https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Language does not relate to
what's on the server,
I could'nt find files with langpack_qtz in their name, am I using the wrong
files? If so where are the right files?

 KeyID

For major versions, KeyID builds are available in alpha and beta
releases. This special build allows to display the KeyID reference of
each string in the menus and dialogs. It is a available as a language
pack, where the language reference is replaced by *qtz* in the version
name (for example
LibreOfficeDev_4.3.0.0.alpha1_Linux_x86-64_deb_langpack_qtz.tar.gz and
LibreOfficeDev_4.2.0.0.beta2_Linux_x86_deb_langpack_qtz.tar.gz).

To install this lang pack:

 * download the package
 * depending on your system, install it as usual after installing the
   main package
 * go under Tools ▸ Options ▸ Language Settings ▸ Languages and change
   the *User Interface* to *KeyID*
 * when you reopen LibreOffice, you can see now the string reference in
front of each menu and dialog

Thanks

Hi Michael

Well this is not as big a problem as you make it. Basically you open the
document I sent a link to earlier. The UI language of LibreOffice should
be
set to the language that you want to check. Generate the report, which
will
list all menus and sub-menus and highlight the problematic menu entries.
Save the file and change the UI language to KeyID and reopen the report
there. Now you can easily find the exact string in Pootle.

Let me know if you do not know what KeyID is and how to use it.

/Niklas

On 07/04/2011 19:08, Andras Timar wrote:

Hi,

As Sophie and Rimas wrote earlier, we can start to localize LibreOffice
3.4 in Pootle or by other means.

Please read this wiki page:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Translation_for_3.4
I don't want to repeat what is already there. As we don't have too much
time, please start with the UI.

Pootle is bootstrapped with translations. For languages that had
LibreOffice 3.3.x - Merged UI/Help, we migrated that. For other
languages we imported what we found in the current LibreOffice source code.

All supported languages were imported except Serbian, Slovenian and
Romanian, because they indicated that they do not want to use our
Pootle. I would happily add them of course, if they changed their minds.

Also, Luxembourgish was added to Pootle but it has not been added to
LibreOffice source code yet. 12.6% is translated at the moment. AFAIK in
OOo the limit was 80%, maybe we can be more liberal. :) Keep up the good
work.

BUGS!
I found gsicheck bugs in many localizations.
See: http://ftp.fsf.hu/LibreOffice/3.4-alpha-l10nbugs/
.err files contain the lines with errors and the en-US conterparts
.log files contain the error message
Please locate and fix these bugs!
Affected locales: bg, bn, bs, cy, da, dgo, el, en-ZA, eo, ga, mk, ne,
nn, om, pt, sa-IN, sd, sv, tg, uz, vi

Also I found many occurences of @openoffice.org mailing lists or
openoffice.org web sites where the en-US source string contained
LibreOffice references. Please look for these, and correct them. Pootle
has checks for changed URLs and changed mail addresses.

Hi Rhoslyn,

Not all languages are included into
LibO_3.3.0rc4_Win_x86_install_multi.exe. Welsh is in
LibO_3.3.0rc4_Win_x86_install_all_lang.exe.

Did you istall LibO_3.3.0rc4_Win_x86_install_all_lang.exe? Did you
select Welsh language pack at install?

I installed LibO_3.3.0rc4_Win_x86_install_all_lang.exe and found Welsh
translation in it.

Best regards,
Andras

Ok , I've downloaded the final 3.3 and read the installation
instructions this time...

/If you choose a custom installation, you will see a dialog box that
lets you choose what LibreOffice components to install. Open the
dropdown boxes and make your choices./

/At this point, you can choose the language packs you want to be
installed. English and the language of your operating system are
selected by default. Also, all dictionaries are selected by default. You
may want to select only those which you actually need. You can also
deselect unwanted extensions. Make your selections, and press Next/.

Although I'm using Windows 7 with the Welsh language pack as noted
above, the Welsh language pack was not ' selected by default' I had to
manually set the language pack through the Custom Installation setting.
It then worked.

There are some issues with the translation not being complete. The
translation for 3.3 in OOo Pootle was complete but the version in
Pavel's repository was not. OOo 3.3 will not appear in Welsh but I'm
hoping that it will be picked up for 3.4.

Thanks

Sorry to inform you, but it turns out that you still have 99 missing
strings.

If you were translating offline, please check the amount of strings in
your copy of the file. If it's 359 and not 458, then it's wrong. If
it's 458, try re-uploading the file, but please use the correct name

Thanks, and sorry once again...
