One of the suppliers (can't remember who at the moment and am too lazy to go
and look in my stash of suppliers' catalogues/price lists) sells a wooden
stand for displaying lace bobbins under a dome, and also sells an upright
stand with the spokes of a wheel at the top for hanging wound pairs of
From the diameter point of view: three circles fit exactly within one circle
with a double diameter. But they leave gaps. I don't know what counts for
the thrength: the mass or the surface off the cross section. In the latter
case you might need about a 4-ply to fill the gaps.

Hi Fellow Lacemakers,
My daughter has been asked to be Godmother for a very good friends daughter
and has asked me to make some lace for the baby. I would love to but do not
know what to make and would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you in advance

What you make may depend on how long you have before the Christening. What
about a small picture to be framed? There are some stylised pictures of
Madonna and child that are not much more than a curved shape which might be
appropriate.

At 72 years young, I have the attitude of if you got it flaunt it. When you
want someone to notice something and ask questions, make it big. When
trying to draw an interest in tatting or lace making, like when

Hello Wendy
Schappe silk is the German name for spun silk; ie all the bits and
pieces that break of during the reeling process to produce filament
silk. So, Schappe silk 200/2 isn't a brand and it doesn't tell me
which numbering system is being used. If it's metric Nn 200/2 it's

On the ornament holders. If they seem top heavy glue a thin slab of rock to
the bottom. I found some pretty agate slabs at a bead and jewelry supply
store and glued them to the bottom . They were polished and very pretty and
didn't detract from the looks at all.

I now have 2 ornament holders, made by DH because he couldn't stand to
watch me struggle with the wire-bending tool (I was getting it,
slowly...). Coat hanger wire is more than a bit 'hard' but it was
available; in strong hands, the wire makes a serviceable C-shaped
holder with a built-in base.

I hang Satin balls covered with bobbin lace or tatting on the hangers.
Lace angels, bells etc. seem too delicate to show on these holders. Those I
put on artificial trees of different sizes. There's also the plastic balls,
bells, etc. that come apart and you can put lace inside those
I love these and put tatted and/or BL angels in them. But oh, I do wish they
could be glassso much more worthy of the handmade ornies. Kortelahti's
little two piece bird is great in the balls, also.
I was just thinking, 'ships in a bottle'. If I were not so old and lazy, I
