The sailboat and rainbow that you refer to is one of Ilske Thomsen's patterns,
and it was posted on my website for about a year. I've since replaced it with
other patterns of her, but I could re-post it. Give me a few days.

The Publicity has surely been positive for the Royal School of Needlework
who did the appliqué work and has heightened the awareness of lace as a
fabric of fashion.
Realistically I think the very creative use of machine made lace made a real

I have just returned home from the New England Lace Guild's annual

the fact that I was traveling alone, I decided to take the train, and

Dear David,
A slap in the face to fine makers of hand-made lace resident in the UK?

I wonder if it wasn't an old wives' tale as such, but that someone saw a

What a great question. I will be following this thread with great interest.
I was reminded by Vibeke's scholarly (as always) references regarding the
alternatives to pins, that my knowledge is very parochial and "English"
orientated, with only a smattering of "continental" knowledge.
However, an

Dear Friends,
Today I received a postcard from my older sister Raie who is
currently on holiday in France. It is the most beautiful photograph
of an elderly lacemaker. Unfortunately it is only entitled "La

I have tonight scanned the picture, so if an

There was also a pattern of a sailboat under a rainbow with was given as a

It appears that much of the lace came from Coudrai in France, though I believe
that some of it came from Cluny Lace Co Ltd in Derbyshire, England.
