Dear Jenny,
Went to your website, and you are prolific! Amazing. I do like longterm
projects. There is something about them that I feel connects me to the
original lacemakers. Anyhow, in your website you talk about wetting the lace
and then rolling it out. I learned to mangle by taking the

otherwise make noise. Image the little beast's delight when s/he discovered

You have my deepest sympathy, Nancy.
That's why I have a large dog - does not climb on anything.

Watch out, Agnes. Our Newfoundland, Sirius, (after Harry Potter's Sirius
Black) wags her tail, and if she's in the right place, the bobbins move. And
since the pillow with the altar cloth is right by the sliding glass doors in
the kitchen, where Sirius will go in and out, I'm sure some day
I am quite disciplined: when I stop my lacemaking, I always lift the pillow
off the stand and onto the table in my craft room.

Oh Nancy, you've got a long job ahead of you. Glad to hear you have a

I will just have to try, you make it sound complicated - isn't there just a

Good luck Darlene. I learnt tatting from a book and you will need to have

I agree with Alex Darlene. I make bobbin lace and am a tatter! The hardest

Nancy: my commiserations. One of my cats did that once. I got home from
work and found my pillow with spangled bobbins upside down on the floor, 2
broken bobbins. One was my only bone one. Time elapsed from the disaster
meant both cats were puzzled about why I was yelling and waving my arms

I have a lighted magnifier that screw onto the side of a table, like that
one shown in the Daylight company link, - except mine is not a round
fluorescent tube, but a normal light bulb. However I found this too bright
for my needlelace, and too hot on my hand, so I use just an 11 or 15 watt
Hi Lorelei,
You might try carrying a spray bottle of water - a quick squirt in the face
should deter most cats. If plain water doesn't work, add a dash of white
(distilled) vinegar (though I guess vinegar could be bad for the lace...)
Or, you can leave little loops of masking tape (sticky
