[lace] Call for testers for iPad Lace App
We are in the final stages of the iPad version of our Lace App, and we would like to have it checked out 'in the wild' by anyone with an iPad newer than the original one (we have that ourselves), and especially by anyone with the most recent iPad Air or iPad minis. If you are interested, please email me direct and I'll explain what is involved. [lace] Query about Queen Mary's Youghal lace
Does anyone have a suggestion of where I might find close up pictures of Queen Mary's Youghal lace train? There are a couple in Pat Earnshaw's Youghal books, but I was hoping for more views. Any suggestions? And by the way, where it the actual train? Is it ever available to see for real? Re: [lace] Query about Queen Mary's Youghal lace
Dear Elizabeth, It would be nice to know what you have tried already. It is entirely possible that lacemakers in Ireland have recently arranged to see this Youghal lace train, and would know more. You might try contacting the Kenmare Lace and Design Centre in Kenmare, Ireland through their web site: http://www.KenmareLace.ie I also looked at _www.IrishLaceGuild.com_ (http://www.IrishLaceGuild.com) which yielded the following information: I do not know if it is up-to-date. The Guild of Irish Lacemakers has almost 100 members from all over Ireland. We produce three lace Journals annually, along with monthly newsletters, and hold a number of workshop days with displaysetc. E-mail _goilireland@gmail.com_ (mailto:goilirel...@gmail.com) Jeri Ames in Maine USA Lace and Embroidery Resource Center In a message dated 11/16/2013 12:24:23 P.M. Re: [lace] William Hall Yarns
Thank you one and all for the responses to my question about William Hall Yarns. I had already tried the email address on the website and the one that I have had for a long time. Neither get a response. The Holma Helsingsland email address does not get a response either so, I will try the telephone number on Monday. I prefer email addresses as it is quite expensive to phone from this side of the world, but needs must! I will let you know if I am successful. [lace] Twist around the pin?
I have been watching some youtube videos this morning of bobbin lace demos and noticed that two different lacers do not make a twist at the start of their row in cloth stitch. I don't know where I picked it up, but I always make a twist with the worker after placing the pin and working back in the other direction. Do you? Is there a reason for or against the practice? Re: [lace] Query about Queen Mary's Youghal lace
I have been looking for this as well, for a researcher who came to see Youghal at the Met, so if someone knows where it is, please tell me, too. Maureen says perhaps the V A. According to the Earnshaw book, the photos were printed with the permission of the Queen Mum. My thought would be the Queen's Collection. But, the researcher seemed to indicate that he had already gone that route. Then, on the other hand, he didn't seem to be entirely sure he had gotten the right information when he did. Does anyone have a contact in the Queen's Collection? Devon - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. RE: [lace] Query about Queen Mary's Youghal lace
Dear Elizabeth, When I was researching Borris Lace, I tried to inquire as the whereabouts of the Borris Lace items purchased for or commissioned for the Royal Family. P.31 a large order came through from Givens of London, about 1938, for a set of table mats for the English Royal Train for the tour of South Africa by the King and Queen. The train tour never happened due to the onset of WWII. My enquiries as to where these mats might be now or other Borris items known to have been purchased by royalty. It was suggested that they may have been lost in the Windsor Castle fire in 1992. Apparently some royal lace was housed there and was lost. I hope this was not the case with the Youghal lace wedding train. Annette Meldrum in very wet Wollongong, Australia In a message dated 11/16/2013 12:24:23 P.M. [lace] Twist around the pin
Diane I don't think there is any structural reason to twist the weaver as it goes around the pin. You will have ctc pin ctc. Or (minus the pin) ctcctc. The lace won't fall apart without it. I think it is a matter of taste, and how you want the lace to look. When I want a prominent loop on the edge I may use as many as 3 twists on the weaver only. Or if I'm working a tape lace, I usually put 2 - 4 twists, so I have a nice big hole to sew into later.
