Hi,
I have some questions on ordering items from Bart Francis and would really
appreciate hearing from anyone in N America (ideally Canada) who has
successfully done this.
Thanks in advance,
Helen (in sunny Vancouver, BC on the west coast of mainland Canada)

I would like to publicly thank the organisers for the recent wonderful Pacific
Northwest Lace Conference. I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed myself as well as
learning lots and coming away with a lot of goodies :-)
I took the Binche/Flanders course with Sally Schoenberg and, as expected, it

I am very excited, as well as a bit apprehensive, to announce that the next
Pacific Northwest Lace Conference, to be held in June 2011, will be in
Vancouver, British Columbia on the west coast of mainland Canada. So far there

I might not be able to quite match that, depending on how early in the 50s but
I come close - and was probably closest to a teacher for at least some of those
years. My grandmother was making lace as a hobby from long before I was born so
I saw it being made from an incredibly early age. Sadly,
Hi,
I'm really hoping that someone out there in Arachne land can help me. I've
been searching for a copy of a book for years but have never found a copy.
Does anyone know of a copy lurking out there in need of a good home? The book
is:
Alte Flandrische Spitze by Erdmute Wesenberg
Many thanks in
Dear Needlelace Gurus, I have a really basic question. I've received
conflicting answers from 'experts' so I'm now confused. When you are making the
'buttonhole' stitch from right to left, is it supposed to look identical to
when made from left to right or is it supposed to be the opposite? I
I cannot make lace at the moment and don't know whether I ever will again.
Therefore I've been thinking that I should put some of my best bobbins on
display to admire. This brought me to wonder about bobbins during the days of
professional lacemakers. I know that there were bone bobbins in
Thank you, Louise.
It was certainly time to update their display system. I do think it is a great
shame that so much of the lace has now been lost to most visitors. It is great
that they have occasional events though casual visitors are unlikely to know
about them. I looked at the Luton
This seems ideal for those who travel and like to have their pairs of bobbins
hanging ready.

Without looking at anything except the auction page, I might buy it for a pound
or two as a novelty. (If it had been Sarah Dazeley then I would pay more
because her final murder was in my family village!) It doesn’t look authentic
at all. It is a shame that the maker couldn’t use their skills
I am interested in miniature versions of things. I have seen some lace pillows
that are purely ornamental. What do we think is the smallest pillow and
accompanying bobbins, pins, thread, etc that can be used (if with great
difficulty)? I have seen a picture of one that fitted in the palm of the
Hi,
Does anyone own a hanging bobbin for Sarah Dazeley? Or even a photo of one? I
can’t find one anywhere.
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
I am hoping that you wonderful people can help with identifying a book for me.
A relative of mine (by marriage) grew up in Holland having been born there in
1946. She remembers reading a book as a child and can't remember the
title/author/whatever. She thinks it was about a boy in a lift
Thank you to those of you who kindly provided suggestions as to the
title/author in answer to my book question. Apparently the answer is Abeltje
by Annie M. G. Schmidt. I will pass this information on to my relative - she
will be thrilled to know the answer! What a wonderful group of people
Hi Jean,
I bought loads of groceries from Sainsburys on multiple occasions using my
Canadian credit card. There was no issue at any time. This was during my
visits at the end of last year and early this year. I didn't have a problem
using my card at any shop all over England.
