Dear Jacqui. I received your wonderful Christmas card with the lace nativity
scene on it. Thank you so much. It is beautiful.

I have already let you know that I will be late in sending mine this year due
to a previous lace commitment. I have just about finished that now and if I
get going on a Christmas card for you now, you may just about receive it in
time for the festive season.

[lace] Christmas exchange

2014-12-08 Thread J-D Hammett
Hi Alice Howel, Dorcas Newkirk and fellow Arachnids,

Just e few minutes ago I received a card and a beautiful piece of lace (made
with an Eeva-Liisa Kortalahti pattern of an angel). Thank you very much Alice,
I am delighted with it. I am really spoiled this year with this piece as well
as the lovely tatted miniature Christmas wreath as well as a handmade decoupage
card from Dorcas Newkirk. Thank you both very much indeed.

The piece I sent this year was not my own design as I would normally do, as I
just have not had the time. Instead I worked an adaptation of an pattern which
was published in the Anna (Burda) magazine in the 1980s. The original was about
8 inches (21 cm) high, but I reduced it to about 3.5 inches (9 cm) as it was
originally worked in very thick thread (not very lacy. My pieces were worked in
DMC broder machine #50 run together with an ‘mother of pearl’ blending
filament to give the lace a slight glitter. This gave a thickness of about DMC
broder machine #30 The two pieces were also worked slightly differently as (a)
I prefer not to work two pieces exactly alike and (b) I wanted my two partners
in crime -sorry exchange ;-D- to have an individual interpretation.

I cannot say what it is as that would take the surprise away, but needed to
explain what I’d done as I forgot to put an explanation in my cards.

Remains to wish everyone a lacefully Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year
with plentiful time for your hobbies.

[lace] Christmas Exchange cards

2013-11-29 Thread Celtic Dream Weaver
I am waiting to see when my partner gets the card I sent to her/him...no
telling now right??
Yesterday was Thanksgiving at my house here in America.
We pigged right out...especially the men folks. I swear I do not have a clue
where they put it all...I didn't even eat pie later on...I was that stuffed.
But the food was good and the best part was I was with my family.
   I have
been enjoying making Carrickmacross Lace since I took my second class with
Mary Shields from Ireland. I am now working on another project but in between
that I was painting bobbins for Thanksgiving Day. They are turkey bobbins for
the day. I only have one left. I sold my other ones. the last is sitting on
ebay right now looking for a new home. So now I am moving my brain toward
painting Christmas ones. I do have some ideas...what about all of you...what
would you like to see on a bobbin for the Holiday season? It is fun painting
but it is even more fun making lace. I also want to start making some more
bobbin lace. I got new bobbins ( new to me) that I won at the raffle
table during Ithaca,New York Lacing event. I just know they are anxious to
start making Buck's point, or Bedfordshire. I am also wanting to start my next
Milanese project but I use the square bobbins for that type of lace. So what
lace are all of you making out there right
now. It would be great to see some pictures too.
   I know that today was
Black Friday...I stayed home. There is nothing I want that I am going to stand
in the line forever for. I bet alot of you did were in the middle of the mad
rush. LOL.
I know I am rambling here...so how about you ramble now...go
ahead...I would love to hear from you all.

I made 3 bobbin lace bookmarks and gave one to everyone for Thanksgiving.
One was just whole stitch, one was diamonds and one was trails. I am a
beginner, but I think everyone was impressed. I tatted a cross for my
husband. I was surprised it turned out as well as it did. Right now, I am
working on another tatted piece while I think about what I want to put on
the pillow for Christmas presents. I don't have much time left, so I am
going to be very busy!

[lace] Christmas exchange and lace

2012-12-21 Thread Sue
Thanks to Clay and Sue Babbs coming to my rescue there are now three more
photos on my Hurwitzend folder.
Clay and I were discussing her tree and lace decorations and I explained that
our tiny tree was now too small to hold all my pieces, some from exchanges but
also lots of other little pieces done by myself or gifts from friends. Some
are momentoes of lost family and friends including our two pet cats so I made
a red curtain strip to hang from one of my internal doors and pin them on
there each December. It is lovely to take them out of the tissue paper and
pin them on. We also bought two glass angel bells which my husband decided
needed lace skirts, so they still hang on the tree and the top angel had a
lace gown made up using a strip of Christine Springett lace using gold beads
in strategic places.
Clay asked to see pictures so I took a couple of new ones showing the curtain
with lace, the tree angel on her own and also the tree with all 3 angels on
along with the little robins and lots of glass baubles although there is
already a photo of the glass angel bell on her own in the folder.
So with Sue Babbs help they are now in the right folder, something I
couldn’t manage to achieve.

2010-12-13 Thread Janice Blair
Hi All,
Today I had a nice surprise in the mailbox. There was a box from Barbara Stokes
in Australia. When I opened the box, although it was wrapped very well, I
could hear a tinkling sound and thought I had to deal with broken glass. She
had sent me a large red metal bell with lace on it. Sections of red half
stitch
and red and gold cloth stitch. It is already hanging on my tree. I had just
finished dressing the tree and there was still some space. I decided this year
not to overload the tree or hang up the garlands like I usually do, must be old
age setting in, but there is plenty of lace on the tree.

Thank you Barbara. Merry Christmas,

Mine went into the post a week ago, but due to the difficult weather
conditions and transportation disruptions over in the UK this week I can see
mail piling up and maybe not getting where they should be going as normal.
Hopefully it will be a temporary blip, but please can everyone take that
into account, it might also be a problem with delays of mail coming into the
UK and then being distributed around so we might all have to be a little
more patient.

[lace] christmas exchange

2005-10-13 Thread Sue Harvey
Please add my name to the christmas exchange. I am sending to lace as I am
not quite sure who is arranging it this year.

[lace] Christmas exchange

Please add me to the christmas lace exchange too! I'm eager to get something
new started on at least one of my pillows. Too many UFO's lurking on other
ones!

[lace] Christmas exchange?

2005-10-10 Thread bevw
Hi everyone
Is it too soon to be thinking of a Christmas exchange (bookmark, card
or ?). Last year's card exchange was popular, easy to send.
We are only really into autumn but time does fly - I was looking
through patterns for Christmassy things to do before the season is
upon and hectic.
I forget who organized last year's exchange (Brenda?) - it was well
organized. I will volunteer this time, unless the same person wants to
do it. Also please post your opinions, if this is too soon an idea.
