Fw: [lace] Noelene's Poems - Inspired by Lace

2014-07-22 Thread Catherine Barley

Dear Jeri

For some strange reason all your posting to Arachne come through to me in my
Junk E-mail box! I have twice sent the email below to you personally but it
has been returned 'Failed bad destination system address'. I would hate you
to think that I had not even bothered to reply so hope I will be forgiven in
contacting you this way (see below). Fortunately I do check my Junk E-mails
on a daily basis so don't miss anything.

Kind Regards

Catherine

Dear Jeri

Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to let me know that
Holly does not have Noelene's book of Poems listed on her site. No doubt
you will have read Noelene's posting on Arachne.

Postage/shipping costs are somewhat prohibitive at present and postage to
the US and Australia for one of my own Print On Demand books is almost
half the cost of the book in addition! Sales have been good for me but
quite a number of people have not followed through when advised of the
cost of shipping. Money is tight for everyone at the moment and all
having to think twice when it comes to purchases.

If you're attending the IOLI Convention yourself next month Jeri, I'm sure
you will have a wonderful time.

Many thanks once again.

Kind Regards

Catherine

Re: [lace] Noelene's Poems

2014-07-22 Thread Tregellas Family
Let's hope that Noelene can find a reasonable freight cost for overseas
postage of her revised book. I do have her first book but this is so
much nicer to have - spiral bound so it doesn't tear past the staples
and some beautiful touches with the drawings. Thank you Noelene for
going to the trouble of re-printing, a book worth a spot on every
lacemakers bookshelves.

Cheers,

Sorry, my books won't be available at the IOLI convention, freight to the US

printed for the OIDFA congress in Adelaide this year, and sadly, they didn't
sell well, so I definitely don't want the additional expense of posting them
overseas.

The new booklet is some 20 sheets of A5 paper, printed both sides, with a
card back, clear plastic front and wire spiral bound. I'll make enquiries
at the Post Office next time I'm in town to see what they would cost to post
overseas, but that won't be until much later this week - we now live some 20
minutes drive out of the southern outskirts of Canberra on 9 hectares of
Australian bush, and fulfilling overseas people's ideas of Australian life
by having kangaroos and wallabies hopping wild in our front and back yard!

I have received an email from a UK lacemaker who has kindly offered to buy
a copy of Noelene's Poems for me but we are wondering if it will be
available at the IOLI Convention this month in the US or whether I've got it
wrong and that it will be available at the OIDFA Convention in Australia,
also taking place this month? Noelene is Australian so maybe I've got it
wrong! However, I do seem to recall Holly Van Sciver being mentioned with
regard to having copies for sale. Can anyone else recall any US lace
vendors being mentioned?

For a while, I have been noticing that all Arachne emails from AOL addresses
go into my junk box - not just Jeri's.

Re: [lace] Noelene's Poems - Inspired by Lace

2014-07-22 Thread Brenda Paternoster
Over the last few weeks there have been changes to several of the other forums
that I am subscribed to . It’s because of changes to something called DMARC,
which Yahoo and AOL in particular, plus a couple of other ISPs have been
implementing, and it’a been causing all sorts of problems for mailing lists,
depending on just how the individual lists are set up. It’s something to do
with the way it changes the info in the message headers, but one of the family
history lists I am subscribed to has resorted to read-only for AOL and Gmail
addresses as when they try to post/reply they get unsubscribed and the
moderator has to manually re-subscribe them!

I’m guessing here but it may be something to do with those changes. AlI I can
suggest is that when messages from Jeri, or anyone else with an AOL email
address, is received into your junk email box you mark it as not-junk and hope
that your system is able to learn and over-ride any other settings.

Re: [lace] Noelene's Poems - Inspired by Lace

2014-07-21 Thread Jeriames
Dear Catherine,

Arachne correspondence quite some time ago from Noelene Lafferty indicated
she might be republishing, adding poems - to be sold at the OIDFA Adelaide
Australia Congress. I purchased her earlier edition at the 2005 IOLI
Convention from a small vendor of lace merchandise. It is 8 sheets of paper,
folded in half to make 16 pages, enclosed in a peach colored heavier paper
cover, and cost $5 U.S. It bears no date or ISBN. Perhaps the cover color
has been changed for a new edition. But, now everyone has something of a
description to find, and the title of Inspired by Lace.

This kind of publication is highly desirable to me. To avoid loss and
damage, it has been put in a tall clear protective sleeve. In the years since
2005, all the new poems Noelene has shared on Arachne have been printed
and slipped into the same protective sleeve. Quite a treasure trove.

I think someone in Australia may be carrying a few to the U.S. Everyone
attending: If there is a list of vendors given to you in your goody bag at
the IOLI, look for one from Australia.

Catherine, I've taken a quick look, and did not find this at
_www.vansciverbobbinlace.com_ (http://www.vansciverbobbinlace.com)

As you have seen in another letter today, at least one Australian (Liz) is
winging her way across the Pacific to California.I hope all our guests
from abroad have a wonderful and gracious welcome to America.
