Re: [lace] Trimming posts - another warning

Hello Avital and everyone

If the quoted stuff isn't apparent right away in one's in-message, look
below for a short set of grey/gray dashes. Click that to reveal the quoted
part. It might be all you see is the sender's signature line and that's ok.
But if you see the 's and 's and arachne sig line repeated a few times,
they can be deleted without affecting your new reply.
Just a tip.

As you all come out of lurkdom, could you please remember to trim

[lace] trimming fringe

2010-11-20 Thread hottleco
Hello Again! May I add--using drafting tape (less sticky than masking but
looks the same), tape the smoothed ends to a flat cutting surface. Using a
rotary cutter, slice thru the middle of the tape gently remove the thin strip
of tape from the fringe. Voila! Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Erie, PA

[lace] Trimming posts

2010-06-30 Thread Avital
Dear spiders,

I've fallen behind in my Arachne list reading because of some nonsense
at work. I've started sending out off-list reminders to trim postings
on the list.

And to everyone else Please try to trim your post so that when
you send it to the list, the footer and irrelevant bits don't appear.
Majordomo will add a footer when the message gets sent out. If you
don't trim your posting, you'll end up with two footers. I turn a
blind eye to the occasional message with two footers, but if you start
doing it regularly or if you start posting (gasp) three-footer
messages, you're likely to hear from me! So please, before you hit
Send, give your message a quick read-through and delete all the
irrelevant bits.

Thank-you,

Avital

[lace] Trimming posts

2010-02-11 Thread Susan Reishus
I am on digest, so may have a different perspective than those on individual
emails, but something has bothered me since I have been sharing on internet
forums.

People don't trim their posts, (1-3 seconds of cut-and-paste to include a few
words/paragraph to refer to).  If challenged by cut-and-paste, then deleting
the whole content, and typing a few words of reference takes just a tad more
time.

When not, content stored is 3-4 times necessary, and though free, seems an
irresponsible waste and anti going green, etc.  I also worry about those on
digital devices that pay for volume.
Here is a link that shows the terms for growing amounts of storage, if you are
curious:
http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/calculate/
It seems like a nag that may not matter to some, but with a bit of awareness,
archives are condensed to substantive content, and very little repetition and
WAY less volume.
End of (hopefully) polite rant.  smile
Best,Susan Reishus
