DH wants to cook an American recipe which calls for concentrated orange
juice. We used to be able to buy it from the freezer section of the
supermarket in small cans, but having searched all of them, it's no longer
available. I've seen several questions on the net with people from the UK
and
The only thing I can think of would be to find out the standard dilution values
for concentrate to orange juice (4 parts water to 1 part concentrate), buy some
orange juice made with concentrate and reduce to the correct volume by boiling
off the extra water the way you'd make a reduction sauce
Hi Jean,
The orange juice concentrate I have calls for 3 cans of water to one can of
concentrate. So why not multiply the amount needed by four and simmer some
orange juice down to the amount of concentrate actually needed.

What is the recipe? That could make a difference to suggestions for

Alice, I'll ask DH what the recipe is.
Those who suggested boiling the orange juice to reduce it, I think that
might alter the flavour. Apparently the way to do it is to put orange juice
in the freezer and wait until crystals form (seems they're crystals of
water), filter using a sieve sieve
DH has given me the recipe he wants to make. He didn't mention that it also
needs concentrated apple juice, which is something else we can no longer
get. It's from The I can't believe this has no sugar cookbook - we're both
diabetic - by Deborah E. Buhr. Now I've seen the book, there is
Question... Your comment says 'concentrated apple juice' but the recipe just
says 'apple juice'. Which is it?

Use fresh orange juice and boop it up with orange
extract and a little honey. Replace any water called for
with orange juice.
One trick I use when baking for diabetics is to put in as
much chopped nuts as the batter will stick together.
