Helene, I now know vitually everything about ANZAC day. So, it's wattle because where Gallipolli took place there is a grove of Wattle and in Adalaide, where Tame Aussie lived last, the light horse was mainly sourced from there so they wear wattle (not the flower, just a sprig of the leaves)

Dear Helene, Why wattle? It should be Flanders poppies for ANZAC Day! To be strictly correct, the Flanders poppies were originally used on Remembrance Day (Nov 11th). The strange thing is that these days I can never get one to flower until about Nov 25th! All the local nurseries agree with me.

Why wattle? It should be Flanders poppies for ANZAC Day! It's the wrong season in Australia for wattle, but you might be able to get some from the south of France, it's called mimosa there... Helene, the froggy from Melbourne. Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! Movies.
