Ledger mode 3 ledger-add-transaction/xact

2013-02-16 Thread David Keegan
Hi,

I'm seeing some bizarre results when I enter a new
transaction using ledger mode.

For example C-c C-a 2013/02/16 Green
(or equivalently run ledger -f dk.ldg xact 2013/02/16 Green)

finds the transaction:

2013/02/01 GreystonesAtm
Asset:Bank:Boi:Savings:Dk€130.00
Asset:Cash:Euro:Dk

Which doesn't seem to be a valid match for Green.

When it does return a reasonable match, it now seems to
insist on a matching at the beginning of the description
field.

I'm pretty sure past behaviour was to match anywhere in the
description field, (which I find much more useful), and not
to return false results.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Regards
David.

Separate group for Ledger Mode?

2013-02-16 Thread Harshad RJ
Hi,

A request. Would it be fine to create a separate group for ledger mode
(which I guess is something to do specifically with emacs).

I don't want to filter out ledger group messages from my inbox, but the
volume of ledger mode messages is preventing me from doing that.

thanks,

This is in ledger itself. I have seen similar strange results for
quite some time.

I should taper off soon and go back to its normal slow pace as I near
the end of major development changes.

Out of curiosity what are you using to edit your input files?

Re: Separate group for Ledger Mode?

I am using Vi / Vim, since 1995 :)

Emacs is a bit intimidating and requires too many keystrokes, though I
admire its design -- Lisp all the way; it's a different matter that I am
not very fond of Lisp.

Btw, I am not a very advanced user of ledger (yet). Using it to track
personal and SOHO accounts. But I am trying to convert other people into
using ledger and those would be heavier users.

cheers,

Another one lost to the dark side, not everyone can see the light of
the ONE-TRUE-EDITOR :)

I haven't use vi in a while, how is the ledger support for it?

Having asked that question, I think you might be right, maybe a
separate group dedicated to the editor/user interface side, when
emacs, vi, textmate or whatever would keep the clutter in this group
down.

If there is more interest in a separate group for editing ledger
files, I will set it up. Please chime in here and add what you you
use for editing your files.

If you pull the latest (from like five minutes ago) then C-c TAB does
an entry completion based only on the transactions in the current
buffer and only looks at the beginning of the payee (it did it before
but didn't fully copy the payee line). This might be more what you
are looking for.

You are very welcome. I have been using ledger for about two years
and until early January I could never get ledger-mode to do anything
other than font highlighting. I really wish I had dug into it
earlier, it is saving me a lot of time.

 I think a separate ledger-mode group sort of makes sense for two reasons;

1) As I don't use ledger-mode currently (I use vim) so posts on that topic
DO constitute noise.

2) When I DO make the leap, it would be great to find the all the
consolidated wisdom in one place.

The volume on this list is not that high. Having two separate lists
would be annoying, and ledger-mode is bundled as if it were a core
feature. I think that fragmenting low or medium-volume lists is rarely
