Rich,
Hold your horses. Last time you went to war with the US it was based on a
massive lie: on the foundation that WMD exist. A huge scam, right?
That went through your democratic parliament nicely didnt it? The same
decmocratic parliament that doesnt object to the MI6 rocking up at newspaper
I thought listers interested in the situation vis a vis Syria and the
recent Parliamentary vote might like to see my local MP's thoughts on
the situation which he emailed out on Friday evening (he has a mailing
list for constituents and I'm on it). John regualrly sends emails out

Intereresting read indeed. A lot made sense. For me this was very
interesting and spot on:
I believe that as a country because of the many conflicts we have been
involved in over the last decade we have become war weary and are also in
danger of being seen as a compulsive belligerent.
Too bad
It’s hard not to comment.
But I will not.
You did what is best for you in your lights.
That’s legitimate.
I wish we all had that right.

You are very wrong.
Assad simply got it wrong. Gassing is not easy. Weather plays a a big role.
He is not obviously winning. Nor is he obviously losing... as he was.
Do the gassed have to prove they didn’t gas themselves?
That is more than interesting -- it’s bizarre.

I think we actually agree, countries only ever act in their national
interest rather than ethically, its in the US's interest to show its still
the big dog in the playground. There is no basis in fact yet provided to go
to war in Syria and no proof any action however limited will actually
For me the problem with Austin yesterday is he can do the little passes nicely
but then tries a long one and is awful, it's not that he'd hoof them into
touch, it's that he would pass to the opposition which invariably seemed to
lead to them breaking into attack with our defence unprepared.
So nearly every third pass misplaced but better than in the past gamesso
maybe we are both right!

Stats don't tell you much here. If he gives the ball away in their half trying
to pick out a pass to the strikers that's fair enough, but Austin doesn't - he
gives it away after he's done the hard job of winning it, under no pressure,
with 10 yard passes. There was a spell between 50-60 minutes
In fairness, closer to 1/4 than 1/3. On the other hand, Joey Barton got
66/81 right.

Abstension is a cowardly avoidance of the issues and I'm afraid I found the
bloke's mail rather self-serving without giving any sense of his moral
compass (and look at how he dealt with the Labour amendment.)
Does he believe that force is justified if a line is crossed or does he
believe
I've got no blood on my hands - mostly thanks to Chirac which is probably
even worse than a lib-dem hand wringing abstension but there you go.
And if you don't count you can put yourself in that nice little moral
shelter where you can tut-tut at all the others (or kill them if recent and
