Re: [LU] Sunderland

2024-04-11 Thread Andy Clayton
I'm firmly in Paul's camp on this one.

Did any of you seriously in preseason or while the transfer window was open
expect that we'd do as well as we have so far?

I certainly didn't! I was expecting a season of rebuilding and was hopeful
of the play offs at a push.

Considering the turmoil around the takeover, the delay in appointing Farke,
the mess that Orta/Radz had left behind, the exodus of (our best?) players
wanting to leave, or worse still, actually leaving,do I need go on?

How many of us are glad that Georginio was/was made to look crap at the end
of last season. If he'd ended last season like he played at the back end of
last year, I'm sure he'd have been snapped up too.

In Farke I trust.

This is his team, he sees them every day, he knows them inside out, their
fitness level, what's going on at home (how many have recently become
fathers? Broken sleep much?), their mental state etc. If he decides to play
or not play anyone, then I trust in the bigger picture. He knows what he's
doing. We don't - at least I don't think any of us are successful Football
Managers?

It's not like he's won promotion to the premiership twice now, is it? I
mean.

It’s the EFL fucking about on the fit & proper person approval.

I hear on good authority that there are no problems with the application.

They’re probably trying to find a way to do it and deduct us 15 points…..

I’m more concerned about the defence to be honest.

I can’t find the statement now, but it’s something like the last three
opponents at Elland Road have scored with 100% of their shots on target.

I thought we now had a better owner than this. The timing is stupid, right
after the window shut. Disappointed.

You have to look at some of the players we’ve brought in, and probably more
importantly, the gaps we haven’t filled; the mass of U23 players as well,
then ask yourself who is really to blame. I feel for TC, I think he’s been
made a scapegoat.

I shall be even more disappointed if it’s McLaren, Grayson, Stamm or
O’Leary.

Shit start to the week.

Just as he's been clear that he's given the club a shopping list, he would have
provided his input on who was surplus to requirements.

As he has said, he/we can only assume targets identified are 100% as anything
else would be weakening the squad.

Let's have this conversation again on February 1st.

In http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/topic/niccolo-barattieri-di-san-pietro/ we trust?

I just read this on that there Facebook, not sure how accurate it is.

We've just won 5 games at home on the trot without conceding. Last time we
did that, was under Revie.

Now that's a stat that makes you think!

Re: [LU] NON LU: European Referendum

2016-06-09 Thread Andy Clayton
In my project management teaching days, I'd drum it into students that if you
don't learn from your mistakes, you'll end up repeating them.

Tony Benn (I can't believe I'm quoting him!) said some wise words about what
would happen if we stayed in the "common market" back in 1975, he lost the
argument and the referendum, but the past 40 years have proved him to be
correct.

The common market, free trade area was a great concept, if it had stayed at
that level and not evolved towards the United States of Europe, then there is
no doubt that this would be beneficial for us as a country.

To see how far we have veered from what we signed up for in 1975, makes me
scared, not worried for the next 40+ years, to think of what we could become -
or rather, what we would degenerate to.

I'm learning lessons from the past. Out, let us take charge of our future and
not leave it to faceless bureaucrats in Brussels. Not to mention the £160M net
we would be better off a week.

PS. I see Bayley-Peacock is close to signing a new deal, but we should be
resigned to,losing Taylor & Lewis.

Anything by Peter F.Hamilton would be good, I'd probably start with Great North

commonwealth & void trilogy's in that order.

Re: [LU] Jimmy Hill RIP

2015-12-19 Thread Andy Clayton
It was ridiculous that prior to the work he did, chairmen had too much power,
too much of the reward.

After his bollocks, players gained too much power, and all the reward. Instead
of abolishing the maximum wage and implementing a fairer wage limit that shared
some of the reward, then we wouldn't have the modern Prima Donna poofters that
we get charged a fortune to watch.

Re: [LU] Rozzer

2015-05-20 Thread Andy Clayton
All that's happened here is we've reached the next plateau on the roller
coaster of doom that is LUFC. We can start to write the script and just
insert manager/chairman's name where & when relevant.

I fail to see how a manager who was SACKED by a team that was relegated
from the same league we were in can possibly be either a better option than
the manager we have now, or better than anyone else available on the market.

Rosler is an (Italian) suit wearing manager isn't he? How does that fit in
with the head coach model?

I do hope someone is posting this at the end of the season when we've won
the league by a record number of points, and both cups, but I don't see
this guy lasting beyond the end of January.

My season ticket renewal forms were ripped up and binned on arrival - we're
having a trial seperation. we might even divorce. I'm thinking of an affair
with Armthorpe Miners welfare (the team as a concept, not all the staff &
players you understand).

Cellino OUT!

2015-05-02 Thread Andy Clayton
Any loss of life is to be mourned, and my thoughts are especially with the
three little ones who have lost their Mother.

If we want to start talking about respect though, there are allegedly ten shows
of disrespect from Rio to Rebecca - including one that lasted 13 years.
Allegedly.

The man is a piece of scum.

Amazing what stability and faith in the manager can bring eh?

We have to live that vicariously through others - it's never happening to
us again.

http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/latest-whites-news/leeds-united-assistant-manager-thompson-suspended-1-7190293

*Leeds United have suspended assistant manager Steve Thompson, it is
understood.*

Neil Redfearn’s number two was effectively removed from his role this
morning amid signs of fresh unrest at Elland Road.

The former Blackpool coach has been in post for just 19 games but his
future and that of Leeds’ head coach Redfearn have been the subject of
heavy speculation recently.

Both men held contracts running to the end of this season and were awaiting
offers of new deals.

Thompson is understood to have been told that the club do not plan to take
up an option to renew his contract in the summer.

Redfearn remains in a job having taken training at Thorp Arch this morning.

Neither Leeds nor Thompson have responded to requests for comment but
Redfearn is due to hold his weekly press conference later this afternoon.

Re: [LU] Warnock to Derby ?

2015-01-12 Thread Andy Clayton
Was always going to happen after Massimo had tried to get Hockaday to sub
him, and he responded with "that" goal celebration.

Simples - MC doesn't like him, and it's his club - so he's off.

Ignore the fact that he is our Captain, most experienced player, only
decent LB (CT is OK - but has a way to go - and is now the ONLY LB at the
club?).

Ah well..looking forward to only my second visit of the season to ER on
Saturday.

Re: [LU] question

2014-09-03 Thread Andy Clayton
I'm struggling to understand the question and relevance.

If you're talking about career, then:-

Sharp = 136
Mirco Antenucci = 88
Norris = 64
Doukara = 32
Austin = 22+5 (international)
Brian Montenegro = 22 + 1
Warnock = 15
Casper Sloth = 10 +2
Adryan = 2 + 8

They were just the ones I looked at - I would imagine there are a few
others.

Do I need go on?

The one and only thing I liked about the Bates & GFH era was that we never
heard any sniff of a player coming in (on the odd occasion it happened)
before it actually happened.

I'm learning to ignore these reports of players at ER/TA etc. FFS - even
Sorenson was pictured on Facebook drinking in the Peacock & posing outside

Looks like it's all part of Massimo's ego & lack of maturity (keep your

[LU] Massimo interview in Telegraph.

2014-08-05 Thread Andy Clayton
Interesting article in the Telegraph on Massimo. Words on Kenny tell a tale.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/leeds-united/11013554/Leeds-United-owner-Massimo-Cellino-tells-fans-We-will-do-this-my-way.html

Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino tells fans: 'We will do this my
way'Controversial
Italian, who initially failed the 'fit and proper person' test for
ownership is forthright and uncompromising in his approach to his
Championship club

It was late on Saturday night, several hours after *Leeds United*
’s friendly
win over Dundee United, and only one person was left at Elland Road. “There
were lights left on everywhere,” owner Massimo Cellino fumes. “I had to go
round and turn them all off, one by one. Unbelievable.”

The 58-year-old was still unhappy about the game as he furiously paced the
corridors of the empty stadium. Unhappy with the players, who were “a long
way from where they need to be”. Unhappy with the new manager, Dave
Hockaday, who is “OK, but needs some babysitting”. Unhappy, even, with the
ball boys.

“After 10 minutes of the match I said ‘where are the ball boys?’ The ball
boys were forgetting to bring the ball back.”

If Cellino is like this after a friendly match, you wonder what he will be
like during the season, which begins with a trip to Millwall on Saturday
afternoon. An hour in the Italian’s presence feels like being caught in a
whirlwind. The former Cagliari owner smokes constantly, twitches, runs his
fingers through his hair nervously and talks furiously, barely giving you
the opportunity to interrupt his stream of invective.

Is there another owner like this in English football? After all, this is a
man who spent 16 days in prison last year; who plays accomplished guitar
with his own band in front of crowds of thousands; and who is so
superstitious that he had all the No 17 seats removed from Cagliari’s
stadium because of a fear of the number.

He is also, of course, the first owner in English football to have failed
the ‘fit and proper person’ test, although the decision was eventually
overturned on appeal. In theory, the Football League could still bar him,
as the full judgment in the fraud case is yet to be released. “Everything
will be OK, I am going nowhere,” Cellino insists.

Cellino finally bought the ailing *Championship*
 club
in April and quickly set about making his mark. There have been dozens of
redundancies, Brian McDermott was replaced as manager by the unknown
Hockaday, and the players were even made to bring in their own packed
lunches and do their own laundry at the start of pre-season.

“The whole culture of this club needed to change and it’s still not right,”
he says. “We need passion, hard work and commitment from everyone, from the
cleaners to the players. At the moment I don’t see that.”

The players were made to do double training sessions during pre-season and
have all been ordered to live in the city.

“I told them that if you play for Leeds, you live in Leeds,” he says,
slamming the table with his palm. “Otherwise, I will fire you. And on
Fridays they will have to come to the hotel to eat together and sleep.

“We have players living in Manchester, Liverpool, even Newcastle. Some were
late for games because of the traffic. There were 10 players who came to
the training ground last season to eat and shower before leaving without
even training. And no one said anything! Have you ever heard of anything
like this?”

One player who has already fallen foul of these exacting standards is the
veteran goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, who was excluded from the pre-season tour
to Italy and is now up for sale.

“Kenny turned up for pre-season training 20lbs overweight,” Cellino says.
“Can you believe this? We offered him money to go. He said yes and then no.
So I sent Kenny a letter, telling him he has to move from Manchester to
Leeds and train six times a week, for three hours a day.”

Kenny’s replacement, Marco Silvestre, is “a beautiful player, the best in
the Championship and one of the best in the whole country,” Cellino insists.

There have been four other signings, all from Italy, and at least three
more are anticipated. Former Inter Milan and Sheffield Wednesday striker
Benito Carbone, brought in as a ‘technical consultant’ to oversee the
club’s academy, has gone the other way: his contract was terminated last
week and he returned to his family.

“When Carbone first arrived in Leeds I told him we are guests in this
country and we have to respect these people,” Cellino explains. “I put
Carbone in charge of the academy, with Neil Redfearn as his boss. Carbone
didn’t like that Neil was his boss and tried to take advantage.

“He went to Italy without permission, to see his sick mother, and wasn’t in
Ireland when the under-21s had a game there. I can’t afford to have an
Italian coach here who takes advantage. He gave t

Can't see why there's even a discussion.

He'll be offering the job to Gibbs & Redfearn between them, not sure which will
be which out of Head coach/ assistant head coach.

Saves him paying them off, they'll both want to stay, and both will be happy to
be elevated to the position and will therefore be "yes" men.

[LU] Oh what a tangled web they weave....

2014-05-30 Thread Andy Clayton
A long, interesting read, even if it doesn't get us closer to the truth.

When will this shit ever end?

http://thecitytalking.com/sport/2014/5/30/the-square-ball-week-who-is-winding-up-leeds-united

Leeds United are currently the subject of a winding-up petition, that will
be heard in court on Monday June 9th. But who has served that petition?

The petition was served on April 25th, the day before Leeds beat Birmingham
City 3–1 at St Andrews, by Sport Capital. Who exactly is behind Sport
Capital, and therefore the winding up petition, is open to question - and
when you start to ask the question, you find a web of companies centred
around Chateau Fiduciaire in Geneva, a Swiss trust well known to Leeds fans
from the Ken Bates era.
SPORT CAPITAL (UK)

Initial reports described

about
the winding-up petition Sport Capital as “a firm for which David Haigh,
United’s former managing director, is listed as the sole director”. This
was soon clarified, however, as much as anything to do with Leeds United
can be clarified.

David Haigh might be currently listed as the sole director of a company
named Sport Capital, registered in London, but he shared the initial
shareholding in that company with Trident Chambers, registered at PO Box
146, Wickhams Cay, Road Town, Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands.
Trident Chambers is also the address for a company namedOffworld Group Ltd
,
that holds the European Union trademarks for Sport Capital, as well as “the
cove”, “7th sports”, “haigh”, “st piran” and “trevorian”.
SPORT CAPITAL (GUERNSEY)

But that is not the company that has served the winding up petition on
Leeds United. The Yorkshire Evening Post had to append the following
statement to their follow up reporting

on
the petition:

“Haigh operates as a director of the UK arm but, contrary to yesterday’s
YEP report, is not a director or shareholder of the Guernsey company – the
firm responsible for issuing the winding-up petition.”
SPORT CAPITAL (BVI)

Sport Capital (UK) and Sport Capital (Guernsey) are not the only two Sport
Capital companies connected to Leeds United. A third, Sport Capital (BVI),
agreed a share purchase agreement to buy Leeds United from then owners Gulf
Finance House Capital that was dated November 28th 2013.

The complex web of connections that involves the three Sport Capital
companies turns up some familiar names that will be troubling for Leeds
fans who remember Ken Bates’ takeover of the club, and its subsequent
administration and offshore ownership. Swiss trust Chateau Fiduciaire can
once again be heavily linked to, first, a potential takeover of the club,
and now a winding-up petition that has frozen bank accounts and prevented
the payment of wages and the taking of credit and debit card payments for
next year’s season tickets.
SPORT CAPITAL TO GUERNSEY & NEVIS

Of Sports Capital (BVI), not much is known, other than that their address,
Wickhams Cay, PO Box 146, Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands,
matches that of Trident Chambers, and is in an area well known to Ken Bates
from his attempts to redevelop the island against the will of the local
people, that was described as “Feudal Development in the Twentieth Century”
and opposed in a successful uprising led by a man
who is now regarded as a hero for
saving Tortola, Noel Lloyd.

Tortola was also the home address for Outram Ventures, who owned almost 8%
 of
Leeds United in the Bates era, and is home to Teak Commercial Ltd, owners
of Elland Road, who are at Sea Meadows House, PO Box 116, Road Town.

The trail really starts with Sport Capital (Guernsey). On January 21st
2014, the company filed to notify the authorities in Guernsey of a change
of directors. Out were Chateau Management Limited - who were listed on the
company’s Memorandum of Incorporation as Founder Member on November 20th
2013 - and International Directors Limited; in their place came Forum
Directors Limited, of Granary House, The Grange, St Peter Port, Guernsey,
GY1 2QG.

That is also the registered address given for Sport Capital (Guernsey) in
its Annual Validation for 2013, and the address of a company called Hansard
Trust Ltd , who acted as Sport Capital
(Guernsey)’s resident agent.
NEVIS, RUTLAND GATE MEWS & GENEVA

From here, the story moves to 2 Rutland Gate Mews, Knightsbridge, London,
SW7 1PH. This is the registered address of Sport Capital (UK)
, who moved there
around March 1st 2014. At the time of the mov

Re: [LU] if you still have your Barnsley ticket

2013-12-23 Thread Andy Clayton
It was widely advertised, before the game & at HT and then there were
people with collecting buckets on the way out.

Also in the programme?

Am very impressed withthe way GFH have recognised the greater community
needs of a football club.

Kudos Mr Haigh.

1-0 Ross

Am working away, so not there tonight, but that team says 5-3-2/5-2-3 to me, so
I would say its Pugh or Warnock.

I would imagine a combination of Pugh holding the shirt, and Warnock only just
coming back from injury.

Pugh has been doing ok to be honest.

Re: [LU] John Sykes

2013-12-03 Thread Andy Clayton
Brenda & Cindy,

My sincere condolences for the loss of your Dad.

I knew John on the YORKSGEN (Genealogy) forum as well as on here, and his
passion for LUFC, Yorkshire & sports was clear for all to see. He was very
proud of his career as a sports broadcaster, and especially his Sports
broadcaster of the year award. I think his only regret there was that he
wasn't commentating on his beloved Leeds United.

When reviewing my email of the day, John's was one of the first I would
read as I knew there'd be something worth reading in it.

I could tell from his Google+ profile that you and your children meant a
lot to him; "Bragging rights - six marvelous grandkids & two wonderful
daughters".

He will be missed. RIP Grampa.

With heartfelt regards,

Andy Clayton.

Re: [LU] NON- LU PM study tips

2013-08-07 Thread Andy Clayton
Eric,

Not sure where in the world you are at the moment? That would provide
direction one way or the other.

If you want to work in the UK as a PM, you have to have (99.99% of PM jobs
advertised call for it) PRINCE2 (P2). Most of them never state which level
(there are three; Foundation; Practitioner & Professional) - and some
recruiters wouldn't know there were different levels. If you want to be
able to put P2 on the CV - go for the foundation level.

If you do decide to do it - contact me - I can give you all the learning
materials etc, but you'd have to book an exam with someone else.

Passing a P2 course will not make you a PM - it will simply teach you a
method and that is it, nothing more.

If you are not working in the UK (or Australia; India; Netherlands; Denmark
& a few other countries) then don't bother with P2.

PMP is useful if you want to work in the US or for a US company. If you
were in the UK, I'd suggest you went for the APMP from the Association for
Project Management (http://www.apm.org.uk/APMP).

The PMBoK (PM Book of knowledge) you mention is the aide to attaining PMP -
the APM have one for the APMP too.

Happy to talk about it more offline. I am currently running a PM
consultancy company - we used to do training too (P2), but got out as it's
a mugs game. 25+ years experience running projects all over the globe.

cheers,

Andy C

[LU] Is there anything else left on the wish list??

2013-07-30 Thread Andy Clayton
Is there anything of Bates's left?

DAB station to go off air...

*The club can confirm that Yorkshire
Radiowas
to be taken off air at 6pm on Tuesday July 30
*.

The decision has been made to concentrate the club's digital media output
on LUTV and the soon-to-be launched new-look website.

Manager director David Haigh said: "This is one of the toughest decisions
we have made, and we would like to place on record our thanks to all the
staff at Yorkshire
Radio,
who have worked tremendously hard over the years to build up a Yorkshire
sports station on DAB."
