2014-07-23 Thread John Boocock
For info for anyone thinking of coming to the WorldNETVets this weekend
to support the Lards!

Ladies!,

Well in a few short hours we will all be hanging about at Weetwood
again! Roger will be staying at Weetwood and I will be staying at

any pressing problems from Friday evening onwards (smirks).

Just a few housekeeping things to help the weekend go smoothly.

Please check in with Christine here on arrival to pick up your managers

[LU] Worldnet

2011-07-26 Thread Damian Walsh
Started off the Worldnet weekend by not being allowed on the plane from
Amsterdam (security queues too long), finally getting there to encounter a
wierd pre-pay taxi system, available to any who wished to brave the
torrential downpour and then at last - Boddington Hall. A quick lie down -
bugga, all of a sudden it's 2 in the morning.

Still - I could take my Satdi morning pre-match asprins without a hangover
to dilute their effectiveness.

Met up with the rest of the Lards - didn't know anyone though I think I've
mt Dean, the team manager, before - possibly the last time I came to
Worldnet. They all looked at me as if I was from another planet when I got
the Slivovitz out as a pre-match warmup.

First match Arsenal. We actually played very well. we were very organised,
defended in depth and rarely allowed them a sniff of an opportunity. They
still scored though and we couldn't so 0-1. BTW their scorer had done
nothing all match - the goal at the end of the second half was almost his
first proper touch. I watched Arsenal's next match, same again same bloke
scored after not being in it at all. This was unlike us. Our forwards and
midfield worked their socks off all weekend for just one goal over five
matches. That's a Richard Walker conundrum ;)

Second match Bury. For the first five minutes, everything we did right in
the first match we did wrong. Bury quickly scored 2 while we weren't
organised. The idiot who was playing right back was dropped from the defence
and didn't go back for the rest of the tournament ;) The rest of the match
was even, in fact we were getting on top and had several chances when Bury
scored a third on the break.0-3

Third match Ipswich. Some of the fatest players at worldnet though their
average age was appreciably less than ours (we must have been one of the
oldest teams in the tournament - Dean thought our average age was around
43). We had all the match, comfortaby playing three at the back even after
they changed things and put a decent, fast player up front. We still
laboured in front of goal but did get one to give us our only win. One of
their fat guys by this time had decided to systematically play the man not
the ball and I've got a nice set of stud marks from my knee down to my ankle
(yes a stamp, not an over enthusiastic sliding tackle - what is worldnet
coming to!). 1-0

Got to go do some work - rest of the report later, Damian

[LU] Worldnet partII

2011-07-26 Thread Damian Walsh
Story so far, a lost Friday evening, 2 defeats and a win

Fourth and last group match against Halifax: who were the Veterans
competition winners last year. Against the best team in the group (there is
a twist on Sunday afternoon) we were again committed and organised. Halifax
had two players in particular who were very good, the lad up front for them,
we snuffed out. But equally their lad at the back completely dominated the
Halifax half of the pitch. The match never felt like a nil-nil, it was fast
and committed from both sides so there was always the possibility of a
mistake. Yep, indeed, we made it. A leg stuck out in the penalty area and a
tumbling forward. It looked very soft from where I was but a penalty
nonetheless. 0-1

We were spared an 8 o clock start on the Sunday which was a good job. We'd
made arrangements to phone later on the Satdi evening to see about going
out. When I saw Dean on Sunday morning I apologised for not phoning. But
you did he said giving me a funny look. I have no recollection of it at all
- apparently I'd called other people too. I'd gone out with some of the lads
from Lens and it's true we had a very good time even though we didn't go
anywhere particulally exciting. The highlight of the evening that I remember
(!!) was getting the 14 yr old son of one of my new friends from Lens his
first lipstick smears off a long-legged mini-skirted Russian blond beauty
called Alexandra. Don't say he's 14, don't say he's 14 wittered on the
others we'd managed to collect along the way. They'll throw us out. Don't
worry girls - we were into them for far too much money by then. There was no
way we were going to get thrown out :)

Back to the football. I left the rest of the slivo back in the room. I could
only manage one bit of bacon for breakfast along with six cups of tea, two
obligatory asprins then off to the pitch.

Preliminary knowkout round v Stockport. Pretty much a stalemate. The
highlights for me were a deadleg (that still is giving me trouble) and
missing a header I should have buried because I didn't believe. 0-0 extra
time 0-0. Penalties 4-5 10 pretty good penalties, our penultimate one
hitting the underside of the bar and bouncing down onto the line. 1 cm too
high, shades of the QPR semi way back...

Out of the competition before 10h00 tant pis.

Bury eventually beat Halifax on penalties in the final. We lost to both of
them but neither of them were much better than us. If we get a goal scorer
for next year we can win the thing ;)

Damian

PS lots lots of thanks to lots and lots of people but especiallyto Dean,
Roger, Betty and Dave Dowden - Thanks guys A+

and committed from both sides so there was always the possibility of a

2011-07-03 Thread Damian Walsh
Hi All,

Apologies if I've missed stuff - highly possible because I spend my life en
vadrouille in Eastern Europe at the moment. But.

I've (still) not seen owt about Worldnet yet - I'm counting on going but
I'll be upset to be the only Lard!

Roger - you're probably not reading this, I'll send you something direct. In
tha absence of a concerted room-book I'll need just the one for myself.

I don't think I've seen anything about Worldnet for a long time. I'm
planning to come this year for a last hurrah - shouldn't we have made a
booking for the room or summat by now?
