When I make a contact through Ancestry, GenesReunited etc I usually paste the
message into the Notes for the Individual in my tree that the contact asked
about (or I originated to query about). It can get difficult to remember who
has contacted me about who. I have thought of starting to use
It's called a source! If the message is in the form of an email then I use
the email source and I attach an image of the message to the source. If it's
a tree then the source is the tree which you have downloaded from where
ever. You can add the names of the individuals into the source detail.
There are several ways you could do this (or something quite similar).
When the contact gives me specific info/data, say in an e-mail, I attach a
Source Citation to the data/event using the e-mail template. I have also
started printing the e-mail to PDF and attaching it that way.

Something on those lines is probably the best compromise.
I just had an example of a contact from someone about a distant branch of my
family that I spent some time looking at a few years ago. I was in contact
with about half a dozen people but fortunately I have put the surname in their
I keep all my email correspondence from cousins, near and far, and print
it out as pdf's. If it's source material (it isn't always) I attach it
as a source and put the relevant passage in the Source Detail Text and
the page number of the pdf. Some of these pdf's ramble on forever.
If you've been
I keep all my old EMails though of course with Ancestry, GenesReunited it can
be a problem to get people contact you via real EMail or give you their EMail
address.
I paste all messages into Notes and if there some useful information it will be
added to the file with the message again pasted
I don't know if there's a way to do this in Legacy because what you're
describing is not something I do. If you want to keep a contact list of
particular lines, surely you can make notes in your Addressbook or make
a text document with your information, something/anything that's searchable.

On the left side of the source tab is a check box for combining multiple
citations. If this box is checked the boxes for including source and

Jean,
The fact those boxes are greyed out means they're not an option in that
type of report. It's not an error, just trying to tell you you can't
have that option.
