Al,
Nobody would use the jpg format for storage of basic images, but would use a
non-destructive format such as tiff or bmp. TIFF is, of course, now the one
most commonly in use, although some software will still save images in bmp.

That only changes the number of pictures that can be shown on the

attached than the number on screen. I have seen cases where over 1,000
pictures were attached to a single person.

You may have already specified why in some message that I missed, but
what is the technical reason that Legacy has to look for bitmaps and
not .jpg?
Because the OP had saved pictures in bitmap format originally, so Legacy
knew the files as xxx.bmp.
Thank you.

Ron,
The use of the tiff and bmp, is one of the main reasons that one's system will
slow down when making and printing charts and reports. The use of jpg, png and
etc type of images are much smaller and there is NO real reason in NOT using
them.
The tiff and bmp files can also be edited, so
The tiff and bmp files can also be edited, so they are NOT non-destructive!
Ron was referring to the fact that .jpg's can lose information if they
are simply opened AND THEN re-saved. See lossy vs. lossless.
It is probably a good idea to store the master copy of an image in a
lossless format
David,
It would seem that you have misunderstood my email, I did *not* say that
jpgs should not be used simply that they are not suitable as the main
storage, for which a lossless format such as tiff or bmp is appropriate.
JPG *are not* lossless and lose quality every time they are saved after

It may not be a major problem - although it would be nice to be
consistent between sources.
This doesn't seem to happen if I use the source on an event in the
marriage field - but if I am sourcing the marriage field itself, it
comes up with the commas. I've noticed it off and on in other entries
I have a question that I hope can be answered by the LUG.
Is there a way to put the word Baptized that is apparently defaulted to
Chr and displayed in the Family View screen? Most of the hundreds of
members of my family and adjunct families were Christians and baptized in

Al,
Personally, I do not distinguish between chr and bap. I had a Catholic

it was not Catholic. So to me I see it the same. I was bap. Baptist

I don't think Sherry meant that, what she was saying (in my view) is that
there is an option to change burial to cremation if you want and this can be

I work on following
The term 'christening' refers generally to child baptims in the
Anglican/Episcopalian and Catholic churches in U.K. . So any old records would
show that most ancestors would carry that term if they were from those
denominations or U.K origin.
