I work on following
The term 'christening' refers generally to child baptims in the
Anglican/Episcopalian and Catholic churches in U.K. . So any old records would
show that most ancestors would carry that term if they were from those
denominations or U.K origin.
Later records for individuals might show 'confirmation' dates. This would be
roughly equivalent to 'baptism' in non-conformist denominations.

I am an evangelical Christian in the U.K. and my own record shows

Chr - age 3 weeks - Church of England
Confirmed - teenager - Church of England
Baptised - age 38 - Baptist

I simply added the last two under notes.

Many non-conformist/non-denominational churches that have 'adult' baptisms
usually have dedication services for infants/young children from those families
so if I have those dates they are listed under 'Chr' with a note added.

My late husband was from U.S. so I appreciate this can be confusing if you
aren't familiar with English Christian history, or more so if you don't happen
to be a Christian yourself.
Most genealogy software that I've seen assumes the data required will be
Western Christian/LDS. Perhaps Jewish, but I haven't seen any that allows for
other faiths or cultural practices. I am open to correction on that.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Baptism and Christening

I have a question that I hope can be answered by the LUG. Is there a way to
put the word “Baptized” that is apparently defaulted to Chr and displayed in
the Family View screen? Most of the hundreds of members of my family and
adjunct families were Christians and baptized in the Christian Church but not
christened. I do have a few Christening certificates and, for those
individuals, I do want to show a christening place and date but only for those
individuals where it is true. In those cases, I don’t want the display
identifier to be “Baptized”.

I do know that the Chr can be changed (though only from a select list) but it
appears to change all the basic format and apply to ALL individuals which would
be untrue for ALL individuals in the file. I did change from the default Chr
to ‘LDS: Baptism’ just to see if it would work but it doesn’t seem to change
all the “sub-screens”. I’ve gone through all the HELP information and must have
missed something that allows this. Surely, others have faced this issue also.
Does anyone know how to make this work so I am able to make the information
truthful for EACH individual? Thanks.Al Mieswinkel
