Google Docs (free) can do all kinds of conversions - to and from - PDF files. MS Word 7 - has a great Insert picture menu command. I like to format a picture in a picture program before I insert it in word, Resize, crop, clarify c. Just make sure you have the needed options checked in the Word

Those are formatting “codes” = Tab, Bold, Italic and so on. They should NOT show up as “text” or “inside text”, they should be HIDDEN code. I believe the “\” means switch = as in “\tab” = meaning switch to tab. I find them in many of the different notes sections, not just marriage notes.
