It doesn't matter where they save the zip file so long as they can
navigate to it with the Legacy File Restore

To be ultra safe I wouldn't delete all of them. I would keep the latest 2.

In Legacy 8 the default location for your data files is My
Documents\Legacy Family Tree\Data
In Legacy 7.5 and earlier the default location is C:\Legacy\Data
Remember to avoid opening any file within a zip folder.

any changes...to a large flash drive. I learned my lesson a while ago, the

Remember the person on the rec end needs to have Legacy also
Otherwise if they have a diff genealogy software, you need to create a
gedcom to export, which also should be zipped to save space.

HmmI am confused again. They do have the same Legacy program I do so
that is not a problem.
If I send a zip file, how should they open it?
I was told by others who helped me with the mess I had that a file should
never ever be opened from a zip file???

I think almost all pc operating software now can open ZIP files
If you right click on the zip filename there should be an option to Extract
all.

If they have Legacy tell them to use File Restore Family File in
Legacy 7 or File Restore File in Legacy 8. Legacy will then extract
the family file from the .zip and store it correctly in their Data folder.

I'd keep your Legacy data files in C:\Legacy\Data to make things simple
- If I recall you are using Legacy 7.5. That is the default location for
Legacy 7.5 but there is no correct place. Mine were in
D:\Genealogy\Legacy\Data or something like that. I'm now using Legacy 8

know WHERE it is but it doesn't matter where it is.
They should choose a sensible place to save

time. I switched to firefox years ago so I don't have any idea what version

saved my newest entered data. I just assumed that it did.
I did not know that Legacy automatically 'saves' whatever data is entered
as soon it is entered.

The Content IE5 in the path is not significant to the version of IE on
your computer. I use IE 11 on my computer and my Windows 7 still uses
Content IE5 in the temporary Internet file path name.

As far as opening my .fdb file from within the .zip file.I must
have done that at some point and from then on I just never paid any
attention to where the backup was being saved. It didn't even cross my mind
to check because the program seemed to be working fine and all the info I

What you are forgetting is that later versions of Windows show the
content files within a .zip file as if the .zip file were a folder. If
you do not usually have the navigation pane in the file browser turned
on click Organize Layout in the file browser and select navigation

I'm sorry you are still confused.
Let me see if I can summarise your interesting problem.
From your point of view, the only problem was that the backup zips were
getting an extra [1] each time you backed up.
Your file was opening fine and you were getting on with your data entry
