Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Geo-Locator Not Always Correct
Many of my relatives were living in Virginia, areas now West Virginia. In prior
software I used, the location could only be shown on a map if you gave the
state as West Virginia, historically incorrect. What are Legacy best practices
I recently tried to insert a birthplace as Dixfield, Cumberland County,
Massachusetts only to be informed that there never was a Cumberland County in
Massachusetts. While it is is true that Cumberland County and Dixfield are in
Maine, the state of Maine did not come into existence until 1820.
The county list isn't currently savvy enough to recognize the change in
state borders such as the one you stated. You just have to override it.
Consider it as nothing more than a suggestion anyway.
For a *very* accurate record of county border updates use the Atlas
of Historical County Boundary
From 1778 to 1820 it was called the District of Maine.

Hi Michele,
Brodie, Bunnerong Road, South Kensington, New South Wales, Australia
That is the method I have used. Brodie being the name of the house. Am I

Thank you for your assistance

Susan,
Can you tell me EXACTLY how you have your location formatted? Just
No you are not doing anything wrong but the Geo Database is designed to
work only with four level locations city, County, State, Country where a
comma and space are used for missing levels. Your house and street in
levels one and two are confusing it so it is not able to find your location.
Brian
Thanks Brian,
I will alter my entries to have the house name and street before the first
comma.

Susan,
Leaving out the comma between house name and street won't help the Geo Locator
database stuff.
It won't help the map way of finding a location either. The map will no longer
be able to find the street. Currently the map places the pin on the right
street with the location you gave.
So
with ?
