June,
It is always necessary to back up all your data including pictures off
your computer and best practice is to backup to at least 3 different places.
If you are asking whether you need to copy into the default Legacy Media
folder when you link an image in Legacy, then the answer is you
Within my Pictures folder I have a folder – named Legacy - where I place all my
photos and media associated with Legacy. Is it necessary then, to back up my
media into another file.
Thank you – June

Hello Chris,
If all else fails... one trick I've used for a few things like this is
to generate a gedcom of your database. Obviously for this time you need
to include graphic links. Then open the gedcom with a text editor and
do a Search for part of the filename. The line with that
The file is linked to one of the sources you have for Joseph Edgar
Swann, it is not linked directly to him so you will not find it in his
media Gallery. Open his attached sources and you will find the missing
media linked to one of those. Hopefully the source names will give you
the clue as to
It sounds like what I just went through. I can't remember the number of the
error message that I was getting. When I looked it up, it said that last
resort is to remove the program and re-install it. I eventually did, and no
longer get that pesky message :-)

All,
I'm trying to sort out the mess I have created over the years with media
files :-) and have got to the point where, when I remove a file which is
duplicated, I end up with a message like this from the Media Relinker
Missing Media Files in: C:\Users\Chris\Documents\Legacy Family
Go to Tools - Gather My Media and click the Help button to read up on
the tool you need.

LTools has a query that finds individuals without a picture attached:
"Pictures - Find Ind's w/o a Picture","SELECT tblIR.IDIR, tblIR.Surname,
tblIR.GivenName FROM tblIR WHERE ((tblIR.IDIR <> 0) AND (tblIR.IDIR Not In
(SELECT tblIR.IDIR FROM tblBR INNER JOIN tblIR ON tblBR.IDIR = tblIR.IDIR

I don't think you can get that list. :(
What you can get is a list of attached media and who it is attached to.
If you save that as a PDF it is searchable.
Reports - Other Reports - Scrapbook OR View - Scrapbook
Choose your options and then the Print Media File List button.

I would like to see a list of the folks who have photos attached to each
person in my tree and also see who does not have photos. Is there a way to
do that? If so, instructions please.
Thanks

Regarding media files: I have both my graphic (jpg) and document (pdf) files
in one folder called Media.
To keep things tidy, I want to create a Document folder and move all my pdf
files into this new folder.
Will the Media finder and re-linker work on pdf files?
Also, is there a way to
Yes the Media Relinker will find the pdf files if you move them,
provided you don't rename them. I suggest you make your new folder in
your Media folder. It's best to keep all attached media in one folder
structure.
No to the second, you can't see which pdfs are not attached.
You can get a list
